Australian and US universities the new Commissariat…ideological policing by academia
by Alex Bruce
Dr. Michael Rectenwald was a professor at New York University and he jokingly describes himself as having been a lifelong Communist, “to the Left of the Bolsheviks” before he ran afoul of his wokester peers in academe.
His story is very similar to my own, in that he was basically a professor of cultural criticism, which was my major. The analyses consisted largely of Marxist Deconstructivism. He could have been my professor. Like me, he was a Leftist until very recently, when his slight deviation from the party line revealed the shocking, totalitarian impulses hiding behind a thin veneer of egalitarian rhetoric.
Like me, he’s now swinging from the rafters and shouting from the rooftops about the pox of Leftism and his Twitter posts look exactly like mine!
His bestselling book, ‘The Google Archipelago: The Digital Gulag and the Simulation of Freedom’ is about how Big Tech, influenced by Marxist and Postmodernist thought increasingly enables a toxic mix of censorship, surveillance, social engineering and ‘social justice’ policies that, in effect create a digital equivalent of the Soviet gulag.
It is this climate that enabled the unprecedented collaboration between Big Tech, with the mass media and the intelligence agencies to saturate the infosphere with their chosen narrative and to ban all others.
As he says here, “We have a soft Cultural Revolution going on in the United States and the West, in general. We need people to stand up to this Cultural Revolution and just speak back to these new Red Guards.
“We’re being surveilled upon, our opinions are being monitored and dissidents are being disappeared, just as they were during the Soviet Union. They’re being digitally erased or deleted…”
He joins The Epoch Times’ Jan Jekielek for what I feel may be the most important interview that I have covered in 9 years of publishing FKTV. I’ve transcribed some of the highlights below.
Dr. Michael Rectenwald: There’s this exclusive domination [on college campuses] of a particular ideological Leftism which is called “Social Justice”. It’s a misnomer, if you ask me but it’s a very rigid creed of identity politics and a kind of adherence to sort of inverse hierarchy, in order to debunk the so-called “oppressors” from the top and put them on the bottom. It is instituted at NYU and universities all across the country; 230 universities at least have instituted what they call “bias reporting” hotlines, in which students are encouraged to report the bias infractions of their professors or fellow students.
So – very much like Communist Soviet Union and Communist China – this kind of ideological policing that was going and that I found very disturbing and everybody was going along for the ride. The no-platforming of speakers, the way that the Left shut down any ideological diversity from appearing on campus at all; burning campuses down, like in Berkeley, when speakers were invited that they didn’t approve of.
Then, of course other things like trigger warnings on syllabi…it’s a slippery slope toward ideological conformity…For example, ‘Dante’s Inferno’ has been stricken from curricula because it has a depiction of Muhammad in one of the circles of Hell. This is one of the greatest books and one of the greatest poems in the Western canon and it’s a shame that the Western canon is being eradicated. Also, for example at the University of Pennsylvania, they took down from the [web] portal the picture of Shakespeare, because he’s a white male… a university in London struck all white philosophers from the philosophy curriculum…
I thought it was censorship. I thought it was ideological conformity being forced on professors and students, I thought it was a…narrowbanding of our intellectual capacities and as kind of an indoctrination of students, rather than teaching; rather than exposing students to diverse perspectives it was…funneling them into a particular perspective and that really disturbed me.
Jan Jekielek: Fascinating. How did the faculty respond to your complaints?
Dr. Michael Rectenwald: Well, I did an interview for a reporter for the Washington Square News, which is the student newspaper at NYU. Within two days of this interview appearing in their online and print edition, I was denounced by a committee calling themselves the “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Group”, which I’ve since dubbed the “Conformity, Inequity and Exclusion Group” because they demand ideological conformity. They attempt to exclude anyone who doesn’t conform and you’re certainly not considered a peer, if you have views that differ from theirs and then I was put on an immediate paid leave of absence, as well.
So I was basically banished from the University for a semester and punished with this ideological condemnation by an official committee of the university.
Jan Jekielek: So you were basically an early recipient of Cancel Culture.
Dr. Michael Rectenwald: Very much so. Before Cancel Culture existed, I was a victim of Cancel Culture…
The things I want to make clear is that these the Big Digital is not some politically neutral set of principles or companies Big Digital consists of a bunch of left-leaning authoritarians and they’re doing so they have the same ideological character in a softer sense of course as the CCP.
Jan Jekielek: OK, so that that’s a big thing to say. You’re gonna you’re gonna have to offer some pretty solid evidence here.
Dr. Michael Rectenwald: There’s a ton of evidence that shows that the Google stacks their search results in a Left-leaning way. All this has been shown by Dr. Robert Epstein and it was exposed by Project Veritas. Google has a worldview that’s reflected both in their algorithms; their outward-facing algorithms and their internal policies. Their internal policies show that they favor almost all kinds of Leftists views about identity. They’re very, very strong in encouraging transgenderism, they’re very strong in discouraging anything like traditional ideas about gender, they also have extremely Left-leaning views about the political economy. They have monopolistic ambitions, I think and they also have state functions. They are – first of all Google was started by funding from the CIA – and that’s not to prove that they have a state function but they also keep they continue to cooperate with the state… Read the rest of this entry
A Colorado middle school teacher is facing child abuse charges for forcing a boy to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance, a report says
from Breibart News by Warner Todd Huston
Karen Smith, a physical education teacher at Angevine Middle School in Lafayette, Colorado, is accused of grabbing a student by his jacket and forcing him to stand during the recitation and then forcibly removing him from the classroom afterward. The incident occurred on February 1, Denver’s CB affiliate reported.
Smith, a 20-year teaching veteran, turned herself in to police on February 1 to face the charges of child abuse as well as assault in the third degree.
The Boulder Valley School District released a statement saying they were cooperating with authorities:
Today we learned that the Boulder County District Attorney’s office has formally charged Angevine Middle School Physical Education Teacher Karen Smith. Ms. Smith has served Boulder Valley School District for 20 years and is currently on paid administrative leave.
We are cooperating with the District Attorney’s Office and respect their decision on this matter. We are unable to comment further because it remains a personnel matter that the school district is actively investigating.
A district spokesperson also told the media that there is no rule requiring students to stand for the Pledge.
“No basis for objection need be stated,” Randy Barber wrote in an email obtained by the New York Daily News. “Students who choose not to participate should not be disciplined nor should they be forced to stand, leave the room, or be ostracized in any way.”
“We are dedicated, as always, to supporting our students and ensuring that we have qualified educators working with them during their physical education time,” district spokesperson Randy Barber said.
The teacher is known to be “strict” with students, but there is no public history of complaints against her.

Letter to the Editor
I don’t want to tell anyone any more bad news this year. It can wait until 2018.
I want my grandchildren and great grandchildren to remain innocent, to believe that the world is a wonderful and a safe place, where all their dreams will come true, where there is no bad government, a mainstream media and that reports the truth, that they can rely on their education system that they received, the established medical system, and that all is well, that if they work hard and do the right things that all their dreams will be accomplished.
I was born in Australia’s outback one month after the bombing of London by Hitler, and saw the end of WWll, though I was not affected too much because my mother grew all our food and my dad worked in the mines. Millions died fighting for freedom and their countries. The world that we had after the second world war, was one where everyone was so poor, so damaged, that they wanted nothing but good things for themselves and everyone else. The children had no shoes and had to stand on sticks in the school playground so they would not burn the soles of their feet. Most of the girls had shoes, but many boys did not. Children were lucky if they had 3 sets of clothes to change into, and only one toy was given for Christmas, and if you were very lucky you got another one for your birthday. We didn’t know that we were poor, until we grew up and learned about it, because everyone was in the same situation. And so everyone worked hard, built a country that was, and is the envy of most others, a generous country where the rich and the workers provided enough tax, to a system that would provide help to the underprivileged and help to the widows. We were taught not to speak of politics or religion, because they would cause arguments.
Most immigrants wanted to forget where they came from. The memories of the war horrors, memories too painful that they were tucked into the back of their minds never to be spoken of. And so a country developed where we trusted the government, we trusted the authorities, we trusted each other, we trusted the churches, and we lost all knowledge of our political system, how it worked and our spiritual understanding of why knowing the difference between right and wrong was important to the survival of any civilization. The agenda was set in the 1970’s to destroy the family unit by giving children more rights than their parents, and parents taught to put their own desires and happiness before all else. Some were sensible enough to resist, but others were not.
In our ignorance we lost control of our destiny. We gave our rights over to the atheist United Nations, who had a different agenda than those who went to war to protect our freedom, our sovereignty, our families, our children, our land, our industries, our homes and our survival. The people lost their constitutional rights, their Constitution was corrupted,
and the corruption sealed in the courts with judges on the same agenda as the authoritarian New World Order. Australia lost their inherited religion, their beliefs and their soul.
Powerful pharmaceutical cartels took over the health of the nation, trained the doctors, rewarded the universities and government officials, so that laws were introduced that had no bearing on good health, but were focused on power for a few, and financial rewards for those who co-operated with the population reduction agenda of the New World Order. Many had no idea what was happening, others did not care and those who could see the truth were labelled “Conspiracy theorists”.
And so we now find ourselves in the position that the “state” has taken control of all aspects of our lives, our freedom of choice, our most precious gift from God, is almost gone. That is why the “Great Division” is taking place, a heavenly and spiritual movement, in total opposition to the “one world agenda of the United Nations” and those who wish to control a world made in their own godless image. This is not a division between races or different countries, it is a division between good and evil. Please meditate on this to see what part you play in the destiny of the planet. No matter what age you are, you are more important than you ever imagined. Everyone plays a part in the survival or the destruction of the earth.
Australia should follow the Republican Member’s example. It seems In Australia we have all the same problems.
The shortest Draft Bill in Unites States history has been introduced by Congressman Thomas Massie ( R – Kentucky) to terminate the federal Department of Education.
The Bill: “The Department of Education shall terminate on December 31, 2018.”
H.R. 899 is revolutionary.
H.R. 899 will end the destruction of America’s education system.
H.R. 899 should have been introduced 37 years ago. But no Republican has had the courage to do the right thing in all those years – until now.
The American Policy Center will personally deliver your signed petition(link below) to Congressman Massie so that he may display yours and thousands more to show Congress the American people demand an end to the federal Department of Education.
This is what you and I have been waiting for. It’s the end of the federal government messing with the minds of our children, indoctrinating themwith leftist propaganda. The end of Common Core!
The end of the power of the National Education Association (NEA) the most powerful union in the nation – and the one that directly affects your child’s future! These programs and policies are the NEA’s agenda: Goals 2000, School to Work, Workforce Development Boards, pumping drugs like Ritalin into our children. And now today – Common Core.
Classrooms are torturing your children with idiotic programs like CommonCore where the questions make no sense – defy logic and cause them to quit.
American history has been removed. Instead of learning about the Declaration of Independence the children have been indoctrinated to accept the UN’s Declaration on Human Rights.
Academics have nearly disappeared from the classroom and the children are pummeled with propagandaon global warming. The Department of Education’s policy is to determine that your children are sick if they believe intheir nation as a bastion of freedom.
Or if they love God and their families. As a result of 38 years of the Department of Education our children have been successfully turnedinto ignorant, pliable global village idiots! Does that sound harsh?
Then take a good look around you. Look at the surge of young people who unquestioningly supportedavowed Socialist Bernie Sanders for president.
Look at the sick images of college students who need counseling and coloring books to deal with anyone who expresses opinions other than those deemed to be politically correct by the Education establishment.
It’s all fed through the Department of Education. And if our nation is to survive it must stop! That’s why you and I must take a stand to help Rep. Massie succeed in terminating the Department of Education.
