Voice campaign not traveling to well in spite of Albanese propping it up with $75 million, would be better spent on housing

Sign this open letter to tell Anthony Albanese and Peter Dutton:
Australians should be one, together. Not two, divided.
As one of his first acts as Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese announced a referendum to create an Indigenous ‘Voice to Parliament’.
He wants to change the Australian Constitution to cement identity politics in our founding document.
This means our nation will be divided by race.
But why don’t other special interest groups deserve a ‘Voice to Parliament’? Why not children, or Australians with disabilities?
Labor is making up the details on the run and that’s not the way to amend the Constitution.
They want the Constitution changed before there’s even detail on the amendment.
Where’s the evidence this will produce practical change for Indigenous people?
Instead of bringing us together, this will drive us apart. And it will be there in our Constitution forever.
Sign the open letter to let Albo and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton know you want Australia to be one, together – not two, divided.
It’s urgent: we need to call out that there’s a referendum campaign coming and those driving a divided Australia are already off and running.
So get your voice out front and centre today to defend your freedom, security and prosperity.
Join with many others like you to keep Australia united by signing this urgent letter before the referendum begins!
Labor-Greens duopoly Creating yet more, massive unaccountable black bureaucracies
Australia’s electoral commission will be beefed up by almost $70 million over two years to prepare for the referendum on an Indigenous Voice to parliament, while an agency helping drive the federal government’s Yes case will receive $6.5 million.
In a move likely to provoke opponents of the Voice proposal, the National Indigenous Australians Agency will receive $6.5 million by 2023-24, with part of it to be spent on the working groups set up to advise the government on its referendum strategy.-SMH
The usual wishy, washy Liberal leader Peter Dutton has asked for more details before they support the referendum. They too have no backbone when it comes to lavishing money on the Aboriginal industry. They will be in the political wilderness for a generation, thank God. Ed
Home Affairs Minister Dutton wanted to clean out far left and far right “lunatics,” with ASIO Amendment bill
The ASIO Amendment bill 2020 introduced to Parliament by then Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton on Wednesday May 13, 2020 made it easier for ASIO to install tracking devices in a person’s bag or car without the approval of anyone outside the organisation.
Among the many treasures in this innocently titled bill are oral arrest warrants – including for children (s.34B). Questioning warrants that allow anyone between the age of 14 to 18 in relation to politically motivated violence, to be detained and questioned can be issued orally, ignoring the need for nasty paper trails which could later prove inconvenient in court
“Mr Dutton said it would only apply to teenagers suspected of engaging in terrorist attacks, not espionage or other examples of foreign interference”.
Failed spymaster 007 Dutton thus condoned teenage spying as acceptable under his watch
Dutton began telling reporters it was important for security agencies to deal with threats from both rightwing and leftwing “lunatics”.
“If somebody is going to cause harm to Australians, I just don’t care whether they’re on the far right, far left, somewhere in between, they will be dealt with,” the home affairs minister said. “And if the proliferation of information into the hands of rightwing lunatics or leftwing lunatics is leading to a threat in our country, then my responsibility is to make sure our agencies are dealing with it and they are.”
Australia with just 25 million people, has tax payers funding some 20 federal security agencies, manned by public servants terrified of making decisions that may reflect on career prospects, imagine the information blockade and false flags flying from these duplicated bureaucratic empire fortresses.
The Cyber Security sector employs 26,500 who fail to protect sensitive data from international hackers. ASIO has around 2000 staff. Nearly every day there are media reports of a business or government quango being hacked.
There have been 41 counter terrorism operations in Australia with 93 people charged but no stats on convictions was available.
The USA reported in 2010, there are 1,271 government organisations, 1,931 private companies with 854,000 people holding top-secret clearances working on counter terrorism and homeland security for a population of 332 million people
This ASIO Bill is about the 90th such piece of legislation passed following the 2001 New York attacks. And there are around 10 more civil rights-eroding bills before federal parliament.
One of those pending is the Identify and Disrupt Bill. Another Dutton special, this aims to enhance the abilities of the AFP and the Australian Crime Intelligence Commission to sweep the internet for anonymous operators and take over their online accounts.
Dutton is only the latest architect piecing together this ever-encroaching internal surveillance system that’s been propagated upon the pretext of a perceived foreign terrorist threat that’s never really come to fruition on these shores.
The closest such incident was the Lindt Café siege, which was the work of a mentally unsound local playing the ISIS apparition, rather than any real overseas operators. But despite this, NSW police were given shoot-to-kill powers in response to guard against any purported future terrorism.
Just like his predecessor George Brandis, Christian Porter is part of the surveillance state legislating act. In 2018, the attorney general oversaw the passing of laws permitting the easy deployment of the Australian and international defence forces for domestic incidents, and lately, he’s done the same with ADF reservists.
Indeed, over the last two years, it’s also come to the fore that home affairs minister Dutton is itching to set the nation’s international spying agency – the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) – upon his own citizens.
And following the leaking of such rumours to the press, the AFP went on to raid the Canberra residence of journalist Annika Smethurst for breaking the news.
Disgraced Labor politician Sam Dastyari, of Iranian origin, from 2013 to 2018 represented NSW in the Australian Senate. In November 2014 Dastyari declared a Chinese company, linked to the Chinese government, had provided him with $44,000 to settle legal bills by providing counter-surveillance advice. Dastyari’s net wealth as of December 2022 is $5 Million, but he is not in jail for treason or espionage.
Tens of thousands public servants, defence force personnel and government contractors are required to undergo security checking before accessing confidential government information as do Ministerial staff. Government ministers are not required to clear ASIO scrutiny.
Big brother is alive and very well enjoying continued support from the voting public allowing the nation to retain subservient status to our unaccountable, lying, corrupt political masters.
China is real time spying on every aspect of Australian life with CCTV – so is ASIO

We need a bit more intelligent in-depth thinking than this video. The bill referred to in this clip is the result of urgent national security requirements — think carefully about the words hereunder.
THIS IS A DRACONIAN BILL, BUT NECESSARY TO PROTECT AUSTRALIA.
You have already been warned of potential terrorist attacks, take them very seriously.
You should know China has fully mapped Australia for imminent invasion, they know more about our country than you do.
HIKVISION Home & Business security systems installed in many areas are owned by the CCP, all films are sent back to China. Sold by Australia Post. Every Chinese business is ex-official of the CCP or they are not permitted to operate.
Every high rise building owned by Chinese is a security beacon and control directional unit.
The new Brisbane electric buses made in China are all likely loaded with spyware that could possibly also detonate simple looking structural materials — they could have been made here in Australia.
The list is endless.
Understand there have been some very serious foiled terrorist attacks, some best kept from the public to prevent copy-cat acts and kept out of the press..
When the head of National Security warns the people, and very conservative and protective men of impeccable credentials like Peter Dutton take the action they have with this legislation — there is a very valid reason and urgent need.
We are under constant computer attack hacking into business and government computers, many attempts made to get into defence, national security areas and airports to crash planes; our system is being tested by criminal elements some supported by Governments, we are very vulnerable because we have never had tough laws given to government before as we have not needed them. Laws like these have been in overseas governments for decades, many since the last war.
Our lax laws are being used against us, the illegal boat people are just a tiny piece that you might understand easier than the complex algorithms and technical silent and invisible attack weapons unseen by the public — that are seriously visible to the defence industry.
At Christmas last year we finally gave the Federal Government authority over state governments on matters of national security – they had never had that authority before, states could enter into dangerous liaison agreements that could not be stopped. Dictator Dan had his Belt & Roads deal with China quickly stopped, others are underway, including a Defence Force investigation into the Darwin Port being controlled by Chinese thanks to the NT Govt.
We are now in a very different world to that of ten years ago, We either have hard laws or we do not survive as we know Australia today. If China wants to attack us there is little we can do without help from other countries UK & US. Sometimes measures for our own good are hard to take, and impossible for the ignorant whose attitude encourages attacks on our country.
The Chinese-modeled ultimate surveillance state is coming. Australia began its program 18 months ago

The China lockdown of 50 million citizens overnight was a key element in the long-standing plan to foist a fake pandemic on humanity.
That lockdown provided the model for the rest of the world.
We are now in phase one of Lockdown Civilization.
The “scientific” rationale? THE VIRUS. The virus that isn’t there. The virus whose existence is unproven.
But the story line works: “We have to follow the China model because the pandemic is sweeping across the globe…”
Close on the heels of this con job, we have the intro to phase two: “In order to deal with future pandemics, we must install a new planetary system of command and control; human behavior must be modified.”
Translation: wall to wall surveillance at a level never achieved before; universal guaranteed income for every human, tied to obedience to all state directives; violate those directives and income is reduced or canceled; the planting of nano devices inside the body which will broadcast physiological changes to central command, and which will receive instructions that modify mood and reaction…
Phase one lockdowns prepare the citizenry to accept phase two.
In other words, phase one had nothing to do with a virus. It was part of the technocratic revolution.
I call your attention to a stunning article in The Atlantic. “The Panopticon Is Already Here” (9/20), by Ross Andersen.
Here are significant excerpts:
“Artificial intelligence has applications in nearly every human domain, from the instant translation of spoken language to early viral-outbreak detection. But Xi [Xi Jinping, president of China] also wants to use AI’s awesome analytical powers to push China to the cutting edge of surveillance. He wants to build an all-seeing digital system of social control, patrolled by precog algorithms that identify potential dissenters in real time.”
“China already has hundreds of millions of surveillance cameras in place. Xi’s government hopes to soon achieve full video coverage of key public areas. Much of the footage collected by China’s cameras is parsed by algorithms for security threats of one kind or another. In the near future, every person who enters a public space could be identified, instantly, by AI matching them to an ocean of personal data, including their every text communication, and their body’s one-of-a-kind protein-construction schema. In time, algorithms will be able to string together data points from a broad range of sources—travel records, friends and associates, reading habits, purchases—to predict political resistance before it happens. China’s government could soon achieve an unprecedented political stranglehold on more than 1 billion people.”
“China is already developing powerful new surveillance tools, and exporting them to dozens of the world’s actual and would-be autocracies. Over the next few years, those technologies will be refined and integrated into all-encompassing surveillance systems that dictators can plug and play.”
“China’s government could harvest footage from equivalent Chinese products. They could tap the cameras attached to ride-share cars, or the self-driving vehicles that may soon replace them: Automated vehicles will be covered in a whole host of sensors, including some that will take in information much richer than 2-D video. Data from a massive fleet of them could be stitched together, and supplemented by other City Brain streams, to produce a 3-D model of the city that’s updated second by second. Each refresh could log every human’s location within the model. Such a system would make unidentified faces a priority, perhaps by sending drone swarms to secure a positive ID.”
Dutton our drongo spy boss
World leaders per capita, Australia’s 25M population supports 54 spy agencies watching and listening everyday. All sanctioned by late night government bills passing in the name of national security without accountability.
Dutton is our Ian Flemming’s “M” (MORON) licensed dill.
Dictatorship in disguise is alive and well. If it were not factual one could be forgiven for assuming it was a full colour academy awarded Walt Disney comedy production.
Touching but the surface referencing your privacy and freedom violation by corrupt government, take heed of the following information, ask your self the question – “am I feeding votes to a political machine destroying my freedom”?.
Information from “Sydney Criminal Lawyers” Australia’s Leading Criminal Defence firm
Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has been absent from the media spotlight in recent times, ever since he contracted coronavirus.
And many are asking where the man at the helm of curtailing civil liberties on a federal level has been in the midst of the current pandemic.
The man at the helm of the surveillance state
Mr Dutton has been credited with proposing a wide range of laws designed to increase the power of authorities at the expense of individual liberties.
Among these, are proposed laws which would result in prison time for those who fail or refuse to hand over their passwords or PINs when requested to do so by authorities.
Peter Dutton says these types of laws are needed to help police catch criminals who are hiding behind encryption technology – a line we have heard many times before as the country’s law makers put in place draconian measures to grant police and other authorities surveillance powers that encroach upon our privacy.
Under the proposals, people who are not even suspected of a crime would face a fine of up to $50,000 and up to five years’ imprisonment for declining to provide a password to their smartphone, computer or other electronic devices.
Furthermore, anyone (an IT professional, for example) who refuses to help the authorities crack a computer system when ordered will face up to five years in prison. If the crime being investigated is terrorism-related then the penalty for non-compliance increases to 10 years in prison and/or a $126,000 fine.
Tech companies who refuse to assist authorities to crack encryption when asked to do so, will face up to $10 million in fines. What’s more, if any employee of the company tells anyone else they have been told to do this, they will face up to five years in gaol.
Under the legislation, foreign countries can also ask Australia’s Attorney General for police to access data in your computer to help them investigate law-breaking overseas.
Australia’s hyper-legislative response to September 11
Since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States, the Australian parliament has responded to the threat of terrorism here and overseas by enacting more than 80 new laws and amending existing laws – many of them with wide-reaching consequences, such as the terrorism laws used to conduct raids on journalist Annika Smethurst’s home and the ABC’s head offices, as well as charge former military lawyer and whistleblower David Mc Bride with offences that could see him spending the rest of his life in gaol.
Controversial metadata laws too, introduced in 2015, seriously impact our personal privacy requiring telecommunications companies to retain metadata including information on who you call or text, where you make calls from, and who you send emails to.
The problem is that once these kinds of extraordinarily heavy-handed powers are legislated, they are very seldom retracted or rescinded. In many cases, over time, they are expanded. Australia’s oversight body the Australian Law Reform Commission can review laws that are already in place, but it has limited powers which only enable the commission to make recommendations for change, not to actually change the laws themselves.
Police already have the power to seize a phone or laptop if you have been arrested.
Border Force has even more extensive seize and search powers.
The extensive powers of border force
In 2018, Border Force made headlines after intercepting an British-Australian citizen travelling through Sydney airport seizing his devices.
Nathan Hague, a software developer was not told what would be done with his devices, why they were being inspected or whether his digital data was being copied and stored. He believes his laptop password was cracked.
Australian Border Forces have extensive powers to search people’s baggage at Australian airports. These are contained in section 186 of Customs Act 1901 (Cth). These include opening baggage, reading documents, and using an X-ray or detection dog to search baggage.
The Customs Act allows officers to retain an electronic device for up to 14 days if there is no content on the device which renders it subject to seizure. And if it is subject to seizure, the device may be withheld for a longer period.
ABF officers have the power to copy a document if they’re satisfied it may contain information relevant to prohibited goods, to certain security matters or an offence against the Customs Act. A document includes information on phones, SIM cards, laptops, recording devices and computers.
White South African immigrants getting preference over blacks stirs-up the communists in Liberal, Labor and Greens
A demarcation dispute has arisen between members of the Australian Liberal Party Government over relaxing visa requirements for white South Africans to enter Australia.
Left-leaning Foreign Minister Julie Bishop countered the offer when centre-right Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said he would relax entry rules before black Africans murdered any more of the 30,000-strong white farming community.
Bishop’s intervention came after the United Nations insisted, when assessing immigration applications that Australia give no preferential treatment to white farmers over black African savages. White farmers have been feeding the nation’s 50 million blacks for more than a century.
It should be noted the vast majority of the nation’s 50 million blacks do not originate from there, but came from across Africa to populate the country because of its strong, white-led economic management and prosperity.
Marxist Greens leader, Richard Di Natale, the son of Italian migrants. claimed Mr Dutton was a racist for allowing white residents preference over black immigrants.
A spokesman for Peter Dutton said the Minister would be “holding his ground” because he was greatly concerned about the violence being uncovered against the farming community after the South African parliament passed a law a month ago allowing black savages to forcibly remove white farmers from their land without compensation, some held in the same family ownership for 120 years.
Already reports have surfaced of families being murdered in much the same way as Mugabe’s terrorists did after the fall of the white Rhodesian Government 39 years ago
The disgusting, racist ‘apartheid’ campaign waged against the Rhodesian Government during the 1960’s and 70’s by the UK, EU and Australia resulted in the violent deaths of thousands of white Rhodesians.
Former left-wing Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, while visiting Tennessee in 1986, was found wandering in the Admiral Benbow Inn wearing nothing but a shirt and tie and a tiny towel.
Conspiracy theories about what happened to Malcolm Fraser’s trousers even extended to Mossad’s involvement because Mr Fraser was wrecking an Israeli arms deal with South Africa.
He said at the time: “There’s nothing I can say.”
Labor leader Bill Shorten, predictably, criticised the visa deal saying there should be no preferences given to oppressed white residents.
Mr Shorten and Mr Di Natale realise they shore up their voting base by allowing more blacks into the country.
Meanwhile terrified Melbourne residents on a daily basis have to face gangs of black African thugs who have taken control of the streets unopposed by law enforcement, which insists “there are no violent gangs here.”
South African blacks to kick white farmers off their land
SOUTH AFRICA– White genocide, a re-run of Rhodesia
Greens leader Richard Di Natale accuses Dutton of racism for not bringing in more black savages
SOUTH AFRICA is in the news once again. But this time with an unexpected surprising crude twist. History is about to repeat itself. Peter Dutton– Immigration Minister in Australia has shown some guts – and opened a can of worms that now are reverberating across the world. He proposed that his department speed up visas for white farmers that want to migrate to Australia. AND that is HOT news that suddenly has the whole world abuzz.
For many years now white farmers in South Africa have been exterminated in organized attacks- backed by the ANC regime. This fact was substantiated by both Adriana Stuijt from the Netherlands – as well as Dr. Gregory Stanton of Genocide Watch International in a report to the United Nations a few years ago already in his fact finding mission about the brutal onslaught against white farmers. He classified the genocide in South Africa as a level 6 genocide.
Yet – because of the demonization of the Afrikaners by mainly the British Press– nobody paid any serious attention to his warning- and because of that-
somehow the ANC got it right to slither past the international attention. The mind-set at that time was that the Afrikaners “deserved” to be slaughtered. That was what the liberal media propagated. But times have changed considerably since then.
Europe and the rest of the world is fed up with white nations being oppressed by the Jews -as well as all the flooding of their countries by alien infestations. More and more countries now turns back to conservative values. Civil wars are brooding in Germany, Britain – and even the French are slowly waking up. America lead the way towards conservatism- thus it comes to no surprise that even Australia- also now heavily burdened with Muslim invasions- are in the process of breaking free from their liberal capturing cocoon. Thus the ANC communists and their vintage vindictiveness now finds themselves wanted and their evil dictatorial ways now backfiring in their faces. Their time is up!
For 20 years this onslaught went on unnoticed because the ANC was able to silence the media, cook stats, use the power of flat denial- and later on have time to even fine-tune and secretly fund their genocide against whites. They thought they have mastered the perfect killing method. By keeping on the “racist” rhetoric in their lapdog media against whites – they reckoned it will forever brain wash the international community that white Afrikaners are the true “racists” and skunks of the world. BUT under the surface of a visible fair “democracy”- there was another more sinister scenario playing itself off- one of brutal oppression, discrimination, dehumanization– and a silent genocide.
Then suddenly cracks start to appear in their otherwise solid defense. You can be as meticulous as humanly possible- but because the term “human” comes into play- you can expect to make mistakes- and that was precisely what the ANC did. The first cracks appear when they made a fuss about Katie Hopkins– the British journalist that visited South Africa on a fact finding mission about the farm murders. Instead of being friendly and helpful- they attacked her- and on her departure..ARRESTED her and want to take her passport away.
That was a BIG mistake! From their own earlier days being the “victims”- they should be quite aware of the fact that you do NOT f*ck around with news reporters- especially not international ones. What they did not notice- was that yet another correspondent- Laura Southern,- a Canadian reporter- ALSO was entering into the country quietly and unnoticed.
She also did a fact finding mission on the farm murders- and this clever little vixen managed to slip past their security net without arousing suspicion – and quietly slipped out of the country again. Good for her!! Now this foxy lady is giving them hell- exposing the white genocide in its full capacity from abroad…and it’s gonna get sticky.
But the ANC became complacent, arrogant- and sloppy. Then they committed their biggest felony- the pushed for “land expropriation without compensation” to foreclose all white farm land . That was the final nail in their clandestine coffin. Then by the action of one man- Peter Dutton – their little ebony tower was rocked to its foundation – he exposed their weakest link...the white farm murders! As always the ANC killers made yet another foolish bugger-up….they arrogantly “demanded” Dutton retract his statement to help white farmers. This only underlines the level of arrogance with witch the ANC mass murderers operate.
They have grossly misjudged it this time. You do not “demand” from international politicians to do something. Canada maybe…Sweden maybe- but not Aussieland. They are a bunch of stubborn buggers – much like the Boers! They do not adhere to your African whims and orders. Neither do they listen to your “commands” either. Needless to say Dutton ignored them. And more and more Australian politicians are joining him. Suddenly the ANC dictatorship now finds itself out of its depth as hundreds of international politicians, reporters and bloggers alike sprung up from no-where- condemning the communist kleptocracy with a vengeance- born out of years of enforced liberal silence. Suddenly the “democratic” holy grail of Africa becomes the skunks of the world. Even staunch liberals now are attacking them. They now all are gunning for the ANC terrorists- and they seem to bring hell with them.
The ANC “strugglers” became used to everybody sucking up to their whims….but not this time. The party is over. It now is time to dance with the Grim Reaper. As one politician in Australia rightly put it: ” Mandela’s legacy is DEAD!” Even A Call for sanctions and a sport boycott was mentioned for the farm murders.. Now a domino effect is taking form as more and more politicians, correspondents , bloggers and activists from Belgium, Britain and the USA join the fry. And they are not very friendly by look of it either. Soon more voices from Europe will be added to the ANC’s swan song. For long the Afrikaner prayed for some higher intervention in their struggle for survival under a brutal oppression – and lo…God surely works in mysterious ways. -contributed by White Nation
Overseas travellers will need iris scan, facial recognition and fingerprints to leave Australia
BRING ON THE NATIONAL ID CARD
Australia is maintaining its ‘guinea pig’ status for the world by enforcing facial recognition and iris ID scans for its citizens, aided and abetted by the Liberal Party. If it works other countries will follow.
We suggest you contact Immigration Minister Peter Dutton’s office and tell him you will not participate in such draconian ID measures
New technology will mean many travellers will soon not need to present their passports when entering or leaving Australia.
The Department of Immigration and Border Protection is seeking tenders for a self-processing system to be introduced later this year.
The system will use fingerprints, iris or facial structure recognition at major air and sea ports.
Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said the aim was for more than 90 per cent of passengers to avoid paperwork or manual processing by staff.
“In many cases that will mean people, whilst they’ll still have to carry their passport, may not have to present their passport at all in the long term,” Mr Dutton said.
“But in the immediate term, this will make it easier, it will make it quicker, for people going in and out of our airports.”
Mr Dutton said the $78 million upgrade would also boost security at the nation’s borders by making it easier to detect threats.
“Already we know from the money we’ve invested into biometrics collections that that is a much more reliable collection than we have with people just scanning manually passports,” he said.
“So there is the ability through this technology to improve detections of people that might be coming into our country to do the wrong thing.”
Mr Dutton said cutting down processing times for travellers was also likely to boost tourism.
He said the government was keeping an open mind as to what technology may be used as it sought tenders.

Refugee children make death threats to Rockhampton teachers
from Daily Telegraph and Cairnsnews
Liberal MP Ewen Jones defies public opposition and demands 50,000 refugees of unknown origin
GOVERMENT whip Andrew Nikolic fears some of his federal parliamentary colleagues are trying to “out-compassion” each other on refugee intakes in the wake of Syria’s humanitarian crisis.
“What we need to do is act on the basis of evidence, not throw figures out there,” the Liberal MP said today. Any final decision on how to help refugees should be bipartisan, he added.
His comments come after Liberal senator Cory Bernardi told parliament yesterday the refugee crisis in Europe was becoming an “opportunistic cycle” that was masking the true humanitarian need of persecuted Syrians.
The outspoken senator accused Greens leader Richard Di Natale of using the image of a drowned Syrian toddler to evoke emotion.
Senator Bernardi is concerned about a growing trade in fake Syrian passports and Pakistanis ditching their documents and pretending to be from the war-ravaged nation.
“Of course there is a problem, but you cannot just open your borders and allow any number of people come through without the checks,” he said.
Senator Di Natale says Prime Minister Tony Abbott is effectively “turning his back” on some of the world’s most vulnerable.
“Even if Mr Abbott agreed to fast-track the three-year increase in the humanitarian intake from 13,750 to 18,750 it wouldn’t be enough, he told ABC radio today.
Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop wouldn’t be drawn on Australia’s refugee intake today but said she felt for those fleeing the terror of Syria. “It’s heartbreaking. I have been there,’ she said.
Appearing on Channel Nine today, Ms Bishop was asked how many asylum seekers fleeing war torn Syria and Iraq would be granted humanitarian visas, or if the number would increase from existing protocol.
“We’re focusing on women and children and families of persecuted minorities who are currently in camps on the borders between Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq,” she told Today host Karl Stefanovic.
Stefanovic asked Ms Bishop if she felt for those fleeing their homelands.
“Absolutely, it’s heartbreaking. I have been there, I’ve been in Lebanon, I’ve been in Jordan, I’ve met with people in these camps.”
Refusing to be drawn on whether Australia would increase its overall refugee intake, Ms Bishop said the crisis in Syria will involve offering temporary and permanent refuge.
Immigration Minister Peter Dutton has provided an initial report to the government on his talks in Paris with United Nations officials and is on his way to Geneva for further discussions with the UNHCR and International Organisation for Migration.
Labor says at least 10,000 extra places should be offered under the humanitarian and refugee program, aid groups say it should be 30,000 while federal government backbencher Liberal MP Ewen Jones has argued for 50,000.
Liberal MP Ewen Jones in action
“I think if we’re going to play in that space we should have a significant number, somewhere between 30,000 and 50,000 people,” Liberal MP Ewen Jones told ABC TV on Monday night.
Ms Bishop said no decision would be made until further advice was received from Mr Dutton and she consulted with foreign ministers especially from the Gulf and Middle East regions.
However she said the government would consider both permanent places and temporary safe haven, similar to that offered during the Kosovo conflict, for those fleeing the violence.
“We will be part of an international response to this unfolding crisis,” she said.
Australia was also working with the international community on resolving the political crisis in Syria and stopping the killing of civilians by Islamic State fighters.
“It will require a military as well as a political solution,” Ms Bishop said.
On a domestic level, there was a need to ensure health care, education, accommodation and other services were available.
Refugee children make death threats and abuse Rockhampton teachers
‘We will have huge problems down the track’….Pauline Hanson on Channel 7 today.
Ms Bishop was making her comments as Pauline Hanson, on Sunrise, was warning that Tony Abbott faced a backlash if the government increased its refugee intake.
“On a per capita basis we take in more refugees than any other country throughout the world,” she said.
“When we see the photos … yes our hearts go out to these people, but let’s step back and ask where is the money coming from?”
The former One Nation leader claimed that refugee children in Rockhampton high schools were abusing and making death threats to their teachers, while their parents were taking jobs off local residents.
“If you want to have peace and harmony in this country you cannot keep increasing the Muslims, Islam, in Australia … we will have huge problems down the track,” she said.
“There are millions of Australians that are concerned about this, so go and speak to the Australian people because that’s exactly what I’ve been doing.
“And I warn Tony Abbott, he will have a backlash if he takes a lot of these people in at the next election, so he better prepared for it.”
Prime Minister Tony Abbott is considering fast-tracking the government’s planned four-year increase in Australia’s total refugee intake to cater for displaced Syrians stranded in the European humanitarian crisis.
The government had planned to increase the total refugee intake from 13,750 this year to 18,750 by 2018-19, but that rise could be expedited to allow Australia to devote the 5000 extra refugee places created to Syrians.
Sydney’s Catholic Archbishop Anthony Fisher, meanwhile, has joined calls for the overall refugee intake to be “very substantially” increased.
