‘There’s a lot to admire about Australia, especially if you’re a visiting
American,’ says David Mason. ‘More often than you might expect.
Australian friends patiently listening to me enthuse about their country
have said: “We need outsiders like you to remind us what we have”.
So here it is – a small presumptuous list of what one foreigner admires in
- Health care.
I know the controversies, but basic national health care is a gift. In
America , medical expenses are a leading cause of bankruptcy.
The drug companies dominate politics and advertising. Obama is being
crucified for taking halting baby steps towards sanity.
You can’t turn on the telly without hours of drug advertisements – something
I have never yet seen here.
And your emphasis on prevention – making cigarettes less accessible, for one

Yes, we have great food in America too, especially in the big cities.
But your bread is less sweet, your lamb is cheaper, and your supermarket
vegetables and fruits are fresher than ours.
Too often in my country, America , an apple is a ball of pulp as big as your
The dainty Pink Lady apples of Oz are the juiciest I’ve had.
And don’t get me started on coffee. In American smalltowns it tastes like
water flavoured with burnt dirt, but the smallest shop in the smallest town
in Oz can make a first-rate latte. I love your ubiquitous bakeries, and your
hot-cross buns. Shall I go on?
How do you do it?
The rhyming slang and Aboriginal place names are like magic spells. Words
that seem vaguely English yet also resemble an argot from another planet.
I love the way institutional names get turned into diminutives – Vinnie’s
and Salvos – and absolutely nothing’s sacred.
Everything is an opportunity for word games and everyone has a nickname.
Lingo makes the world go round.
It’s the spontaneous wit of the people that tickles me most. Late one night
at a barbie my new mate Suds remarked: ”Nothing’s the same since 24-7.”
Amen to that.
4. Free-to-air TV.
In Oz, you buy a TV, plug it in and watch some of the best programming I’ve
ever seen – uncensored.
In America , you can’t get diddly-squat without paying a cable or satellite
company heavy fees.
In Oz a few channels make it hard to choose. In America, you’ve got 400
channels and nothing to watch.
5. Small shops.
Outside the big cities in America corporations have nearly erased them.
Identical malls with identical restaurants serving inferior food.
Except for geography, it’s hard to tell one American town from another.
The ”take-away” culture here in Australia is wonderful. The human
encounters are real – people love to stir, and stories get told.
The curries here are to die for. And you don’t have to tip!
6. Free camping. We used to have this too, and I guess it’s still free when you backpack
miles away from the roads.
But I love the fact that in Oz everyone owns the shoreline and in many
places you can pull up a camper van and stare at the sea for weeks.
I love the ”primitive” and independent camp-grounds, the life
out-of-doors. The few idiots who leave their stubbies and rubbish behind in
these pristine places ought to be transported in chains to the penal
In America , it’s everywhere – especially where it’s not supposed to be,
I imagine you have your Pharisees too, making a big public show of devotion,
but I have yet to meet one here.
Peak hour aside, I’ve found travel on your roads pure heaven.
My country’s ”Freeways” are crowded, crumbling, insanely knotted with
looping overpasses – it’s like racing homicidal maniacs on fraying
I’ve driven the Hume Highway without stress, and I love the Princes Highway
when it’s two lanes.
Ninety minutes south of Bateman’s Bay I was sorry to see one billboard for a

Someone should remove the MacDonald’s Billboard.
9. Real multiculturalism.
I know there are tensions, just like anywhere else, but I love the
distinctiveness of your communities and the way you publicly acknowledge the
Recently, too, I spent quality time with the Melbourne Greeks, and was
gratified both by their devotion to their own great language and culture,
and their openness to an Afghan lunch.
10. Fewer guns.
You had Port Arthur in 1996 and got real in response.
America replicates such massacres several times a year and nothing changes.
Our religion of individual rights makes the good of the community an
impossible dream. Instead of mateship we have ”It’s mine and nobody
We talk a great game about freedom, but too often live in fear.
There’s more to say – your kaleidoscopic birds, your perfumed bush in
springtime, your vast beaches.
These are just a few of the blessings that make Australia a rarity.
Of course, it’s not paradise – nowhere is – but I love it here.
No need to wave flags like the Americans, and add to the world’s windiness.
Just value what you have here in Australia and don’t give it

The Australian federal police are currently investigating three federal politicians and had a win in the Federal Court in the Peter Slipper/Mal Brough/James Ashby matter on Thursday (19/5/2016) which is the same day they raided the offices of Senator Stephen Conroy and a Labor Party staffer’s home. Early in the week Federal Liberal National MP Stuart Robert, who is also under investigation by the AFP, was busted corruptly stacking the Gold Coast Council with LNP people while they claimed they were independent.
Police raids on Senator Stephen Conroy and a Labor Party staffer
The Australian Federal Police raides on Thursday night were in relation to leaks in January from a government department regarding cost blowouts at the National Broadband Network (NBN). This embarrassed Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull as he previously had responsibility for the NBN when he was the Communications Minister.

Geert Wilders is a Member of the Dutch Parliament
In a generation or two, the US will ask itself: “Who lost Europe ?” Here is the speech of Geert Wilders, Chairman, Party for Freedom the Netherlands, at the Four Seasons in New York, introducing an Alliance of Patriots and announcing the Facing Jihad Conference in Jerusalem.
Dear friends, Thank you very much for inviting me.
I come to America with a mission. All is not well in the old world. There is a tremendous danger looming, and it is very difficult to be optimistic. We might be in the final stages of the Islamization of Europe. This not only is a clear and present danger to the future of Europe itself, it is a threat to America and the sheer survival of the West. The United States as the last bastion of Western civilization, facing an Islamic Europe.
First, I will describe the situation on the ground in Europe. Then, I will say a few things about Islam. To close I will tell you about a meeting in Jerusalem .
The Europe you know is changing.
You have probably seen the landmarks. But in all of these cities, sometimes a few blocks away from your tourist destination, there is another world. It is the world of the parallel society created by Muslim mass-migration.
All throughout Europe a new reality is rising: entire Muslim where very few indigenous people reside or are even seen. And if they are, they might regret it. This goes for the police as well. It’s the world of head scarves, where women walk around in figureless tents, with baby strollers and a group of children. Their husbands, or slaveholders if you prefer, walk three steps ahead. With mosques on many street corners. The shops have signs you and I cannot read. You will be hard-pressed to find any economic activity. These are Muslim ghettos controlled by religious fanatics. These are Muslim , and they are mushrooming in every city across Europe.. These are the building-blocks for territorial control of increasingly larger portions of Europe, street by street, neighbourhood by neighbourhood, city by city.
There are now thousands of mosques throughout Europe. With larger congregations than there are in churches. And in every European city there are plans to build super-mosques that will dwarf every church in the region. Clearly, the signal is: we rule.
Many European cities are already one-quarter Muslim: just take Amsterdam , Marseille and Malmo in Sweden. In many cities the majority of the under-18 population is Muslim. Paris is now surrounded by a ring of Muslim neighbourhoods. Mohammed is the most popular name among boys in many cities.
In some elementary schools in Amsterdam the farm can no longer be mentioned, because that would also mean mentioning the pig, and that would be an insult to Muslims.
Australia bans reporting of multi-nation corruption case involving Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam
Today, 29 July 2014, WikiLeaks releases an unprecedented Australian censorship order concerning a multi-million dollar corruption case explicitly naming the current and past heads of state of Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam, their relatives and other senior officials. The super-injunction invokes “national security” grounds to prevent reporting about the case, by anyone, in order to “prevent damage to Australia’s international relations”. The court-issued gag order follows the secret 19 June 2014 indictment of seven senior executives from subsidiaries of Australia’s central bank, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA). The case concerns allegations of multi-million dollar inducements made by agents of the RBA subsidiaries Securency and Note Printing Australia in order to secure contracts for the supply of Australian-style polymer bank notes to the governments of Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and other countries.
The suppression order lists 17 individuals, including “any current or former Prime Minister of Malaysia”, “Truong Tan San, currently President of Vietnam”, “Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (also known as SBY), currently President of Indonesia (since 2004)”, “Megawati Sukarnoputri (also known as Mega), a former President of Indonesia (2001–2004) and current leader of the PDI-P political party” and 14 other senior officials and relatives from those countries, who specifically may not be named in connection with the corruption investigation.
The document also specifically bans the publication of the order itself as well as an affidavit affirmed last month by Australia’s representative to ASEAN Gillian Bird, who has just been appointed as Australia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations. The gag order effectively blacks out the largest high-level corruption case in Australia and the region.
The last known blanket suppression order of this nature was granted in 1995 and concerned the joint US-Australian intelligence spying operation against the Chinese Embassy in Canberra.
WikiLeaks’ publisher Julian Assange said about the order:
“With this order, the worst in living memory, the Australian government is not just gagging the Australian press, it is blindfolding the Australian public. This is not simply a question of the Australian government failing to give this international corruption case the public scrutiny it is due. Foreign Minister Julie Bishop must explain why she is threatening every Australian with imprisonment in an attempt to cover up an embarrassing corruption scandal involving the Australian government.”
“The concept of ‘national security’ is not meant to serve as a blanket phrase to cover up serious corruption allegations involving government officials, in Australia or elsewhere. It is in the public interest for the press to be able to report on this case, which concerns the subsidiaries of the Australian central bank. Who is brokering our deals, and how are we brokering them as a nation? Corruption investigations and secret gag orders for ‘national security’ reasons are strange bedfellows. It is ironic that it took Tony Abbott to bring the worst of ‘Asian Values’ to Australia.”
“Amazing how blatant public servant corruption has not altered with the change of government”
(But we all know who the journo’s really work for!)

Bendigo residents will know of a certain Mr Donald Erskine who appears to own, or have his fingers in, much of everything that ticks in the city.
Earlier annual reports of Bendigo Bank state that Donald Erskine is or was a Bendigo-based director of the bank. Members of his family are employed by the bank.
The board and management are digging in for a fight to gain approval for the Bendigo mega-mosque and Mr Erskine and the bank have been able to get the Bendigo Press onside. This has left those opposing the mosque with an uphill battle.
In an unprecedented move the bank showed its determination that the mosque be built by cancelling the accounts of all those who are opposed to the mosque, stating it had the right to decide who its clients were and that the bank was “promoting racial tolerance”. Hmmm.
The mosque is designed to provide for 1,000 prayer mats yet, according to the 2011 census, Bendigo (which includes the areas of Castlemaine, Heathcote, Pyramid Hill and Kyneton) supports only 263 Islamic residents within that entire area.
So it appears Bendigo residents can look forward to half Victoria responding to Fridays’ wailing calls to prayer.
Digging deeper it seems Mr Erskine also has an interest in the land adjacent to the proposed mosque on which there is an application to council for subdivision.
On its register of shareholders, Bendigo Bank doesn’t have to declare any holdings over 5 per cent so it’s also interesting to note that the register shows Mr Erskine’s “direct” interest as zero but an “indirect” holding by Erskine Investments Pty Ltd of 840,000 shares.
But there is one obnoxious little potential terrorist who is also determined that the mosque goes ahead, the Australian born Zaky Mallah (pictured).
In 2005 the AFP claimed he planned a suicide attack on offices in Sydney. Mallah was charged under the counter-terrorism laws and jailed in the maximum security multi-purpose unit at Goulburn for two years before being acquitted of the charge.
Sentencing Judge Wood CJ, concluded that: “The prisoner was an idiosyncratic, and embittered young man, who was to all intents something of a loner, without significant prospects of advancing himself. While I accept that the prisoner enjoyed posing as a potential martyr, and may from time, to time, in his own imagination, have contemplated creating a siege and taking the lives of others, I am satisfied that in his more rational moments he lacked any genuine intention of doing so.”
The number of clairvoyant judges seems to be increasing.
In 2011 Zaky Mallah was sacked from his job at ANZ Stadium for broadcasting a video of areas of the Stadium on Youtube. The videos included shots of the VIP private dining room, and the kitchen. It was claimed he was again planning a suicide mission, but he has not been charged due to inconclusive evidence.
Mallah has been active in recruiting other Australian Lebanese to fight overseas. He recently travelled to Syria but returned saying he was just there to “have a look” and to have his photo taken with Al Queda combatants but did not fire his weapon. Hmmm.
In 2013 he was again arrested and charged for posting instructions on how to join jihad and boasting of his glowing experiences of life on the frontline in Syria.
Mallah, now 29, proudly claims that ASIO says he is potentially Australia’s first suicide bomber.
Since being charged he has toned down his rhetoric but his “impassioned” plea for the building of the Bendigo Mosque can be seen here:

Hollow promises of more funding, freehold land ownership, more land grants and removal of alcohol management plans are just some of the palm-greasing tactics for indigenous groups which are being touted by the Liberal Member for Cook David Kempton in the hope of holding his seat at the November State election.
The Kowanyama township was one indigenous group mesmerised into voting for him at the 2012 election.
Labor polling booth supporters at Kowanyama complained to Electoral Commission officials on election day about Kempton’s henchmen trying to bribe voters by telling them alcohol management plans would be removed should they support the Liberal Party.
A scuffle broke out between different supporters and the Liberal emissary was ordered away from the booth.
Surprisingly the Liberal vote was the highest ever at Kowanyama but two years later local community social club members are still waiting for the AMP’s to be lifted.
A front page story in the Weekend Australian in September accused Mr Kempton, a solicitor, of these less than savoury electoral activities.
This time around Mr Kempton’s tactics have not altered but increased in desperation as more and more people wake up that the anti- small business and economic rationalist policies of the Liberals are sinking them further into the mire of failed businesses, unemployment and asset sales.
Such as the Peninsula where a handful of Cairns-based, unelected, high profile indigenous identities get rewarded with many millions of dollars by the Liberals (and Labor) for such esoteric purposes as training, health initiatives and land preservation, among a long list of other obscure, mostly meaningless projects.
While the rank and file community members of the Peninsula languish in often third world conditions, the politically aligned and correct few, cop all the benefits and bouquets.
The people of Cape York Peninsula, indeed the indigenous people of Far North Queensland will never prosper under the policies of either Labor or the Liberals.
A new state of North Queensland starting at the Tropic of Capricorn, is desperately needed to reclaim the vast amount of income generated by the region which the Liberals have hijacked into Brisbane.
The condition of the Far North road network, water storages, infrastructures, extraordinarily high power and water charges, rates, rent , a $400 annual mining lease tax, emergency services taxation and other increased government charges have emphasised the government funding scam and the Royalties for Regions ruse, with very little money being returned to where it was generated.
Only when a new state is created with its own local inhabitants elected for self-government will indigenous people be able to chart their own destiny.
Supporting either the Liberals or Labor at the election will ensure a new state is never created.
