- Victoria’s Coalition has embraced Labor’s core abortion funding pledge.
- Taxpayers would cover costs at participating abortion providers.
- Wilson’s commitment abandons pro-life voters on public funding.
- Mothers facing hardship deserve practical help to welcome their babies.
- Conservative support must be earned through the defence of life.
Labor announced expanded taxpayer funding for abortion. Victoria’s Liberal leadership promptly embraced the central spending commitment. Pro-life Australians have been given a blunt answer about what changing the government would deliver on this issue.
On 15 October, Opposition Leader Jess Wilson committed the Coalition to matching Labor’s pledge to cover out-of-pocket abortion costs up to 16 weeks’ gestation. Faced with an election challenge from Labor, the Liberal leadership adopted its opponent’s funding policy.
Labor’s scheme would pay participating public and private providers to deliver abortions under 16 weeks, removing consultation, imaging, testing and medication charges. Public money would also support expanded travel assistance. The policy directs taxpayers’ resources towards making abortion more accessible.
Calling it “free” conceals the bill. Australians pay through taxation, including citizens whose Christian convictions demand protection for unborn children. Moving the charge to the public ledger does nothing to resolve the moral question.
Wilson declared: “The Liberals and Nationals will not allow Labor to play politics on this issue.” Her response nevertheless handed Labor a substantial policy victory. The government established the spending commitment, and the opposition promised to honour it.
Conservative voters deserve better than a party that answers pressure from the Left by adopting its programme. Every Coalition candidate seeking pro-life support must explain whether he supports this commitment and what he intends to do about it.
A child’s worth does not depend on whether his arrival is convenient, affordable or politically comfortable to discuss. The Christian duty to protect vulnerable life reaches into the womb. Politicians claiming to defend family and human dignity must answer for policies that finance the ending of that life.
That duty also demands practical solidarity with mothers. A woman facing an unexpected pregnancy may need housing, protection from violence, medical care, help paying bills or dependable support after the birth. Public policy should help her overcome those difficulties and welcome her child.
A government serious about supporting families would strengthen pregnancy assistance, maternity services and help for mothers in hardship. It would recognise the mother and her baby as people deserving protection together. Their future should command the energy and resources now being devoted to expanding abortion funding.
Pro-life voters should put direct questions to every candidate. Will he vote for this spending? Will he oppose it? What concrete measures will he pursue to protect unborn children and assist their mothers? A party logo supplies none of those answers.
Liberal politicians who disagree with their leadership must say so publicly. Silence leaves the announced policy standing in their name. Private objections carry little weight when public power and public money are at stake.
The same scrutiny belongs on every party seeking Christian votes. Promises must become votes in Parliament, budget priorities and sustained action. The defence of life cannot be reduced to a campaign-season expression of personal belief.
Labor has declared its position. The Coalition’s leadership has embraced the central funding pledge. Pro-life Australians owe neither party automatic allegiance.
Their support must be earned by representatives prepared to defend unborn children, stand beside mothers and uphold the family when political pressure makes those commitments costly.

Oh what! No cash subsidies or free holiday cruises on offer? Shameful. We need a more compassionate and morally decent grubbernment.
LIB/LAB SUPPORT LEGALISED INFANTICIDE. Dont vote for this atrocity..
Jess Wilson has just proved beyond doubt that the Libs are just the other side of the Lib/Lab duopoly coin. She has just shown what Taylor will do if pushed, back down and give in to a small pack of rabid activists. Vote for the Coalition at your own peril, they are not an alternative.
Corrupt sleazebags. So now they’re enticing me to have an abortion by paying for food, travel and accommodation expenses as well as medical costs? How about a coupla grand for the emotional trauma and for washing my conscience as well. I must bear the sweeteners in mind come the AFL finals next year.
Ban abortions outright unless the women has been raped or for medical reasons like the child could be deformed or be born spastic .
Well, when it comes to killing their own babies, it is decision of pregnant woman. Do they want to live with guilty conscious for the rest of life? Romans 2v15
They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts. Their consciences confirm this. Their competing thoughts will either accuse or excuse them

Rockerfellas did all they could to fund Feminism™ from early days and they also run the biggest share of the Global HospitalSystem™, it goes without saying all the normal people are “Useless Eaters” according to elites and they want us reduced, replaced and removed. Look at Aaron Russo on bichute if you have any doubt, Russo was murdered like many others for speaking out about things. Rockerfella’s lifestyle advertising appeals and people hoover it up, from bogus pharmakeia remedies and medical treatment scams to the self-genocide of abortion customers, the elites are getting the results they want but not as fast as they would like.
