NSW woman Kirralie Smith has reason to smile, despite being fined $200,000 by a NSW court for allegedly “vilifying” a transgender person.
More than 2500 of her supporters have given generously to reach Kirralie’s initial goal of $263,000 to begin the process of a High Court appeal.
“Thank you! Thank you a million times over. These court battles have never been just about me,” says Kirralie. “The attempts by activists to silence me have really been attempts to silence you. But you will not be silenced.”
She says thousands of Australians have given to her fighting fund. Thousands more have sent messages of support and thousands are praying for the outcome.
“The simple reality is men are not women. No human can change sex. No male should have access to women’s sport or change rooms.
“Taking publicly available information posted on football websites and Facebook pages, reposting it and asking why these males are participating in women’s competitions is not violence or vilification,” says Kirralie.
“Changing the definitions of words like ‘woman’, ‘violence’ or ‘vilification’ doesn’t fly with most Australians. We know what these words mean and changing “laws” doesn’t change the facts.
“Free speech and truth speech are hallmarks of a free, democratic society. These are under threat and thousands of you have decided it is time to draw a line in the sand.
“I have all the conviction in the world, but I could never do this alone.
“You and I now stand together as we move forward in the fight for free speech, human dignity, privacy and sex-based rights back into law.”
The judgement about the penalties she faces for being found guilty of “unlawful vilification” has been moved from November 5 to November 25. Once those penalties are handed down, the appeal can be set in motion.
“I truly cannot express my gratitude to you enough. You have bolstered my resolution and commitment to reinstating definitions of male and female back into law.
“You have made it possible for me to continue the fight and it is only a matter of time until we can celebrate a victory for reality and common sense together. In the meantime we still have a long, arduous journey ahead of us.
“The process is complex and punishing. It is expensive and time consuming. But it is worth it to protect our children, women’s rights and restore civility to society.”
