Perth multi-millionaire and Teals financier Simon Holmes-a-Court allegedly paid for and organized an extravagant campaign launch, Climate 200, at the Dendy Cinema at Coorparoo, Brisbane where the Teal candidate running against Opposition leader Peter Dutton in the seat of Dickson, Ellie Smith publicly admitted she was a GREENIE at heart.
Australia’s potential future prime minister holds onto his seat of Dickson by a slim 1.7 per cent, making it the most marginal federal seat in Queensland.
Just 3,363 votes secured Opposition leader Peter Dutton’s re-election in 2022.
Cairns News contacted Ellie Smith asking if she was a member of the Greens or any other party or if she was being funded by Holmes-a-Court.
She said she had never been a member of any party and the majority of her campaign funds were donated by the people of Dickson.
“I am a community independent. I was selected by local community representatives through the group Dickson Decides,” Ms Smith said.
“I was selected by the local community in Dickson and I represent the local community in Dickson.
“I have been overwhelmed by the support that the local community has shown me in the first few weeks since they selected me to run on their behalf.
“This includes the number of donations – the vast majority of which have been provided by people in Dickson.
“I have an Honours in Environmental Management from the University of Queensland.
“I have never been a member of any political party.”
The really sad part of the campaign launch was the long theatrical Welcome to Country. Holmes- a- Court, has shown disrespect to Australia putting on a theatrical ceremony concocted by Aboriginal actor Ernie Dingo and Richard Whalley, of the Middar Aboriginal Theatre in 1976.
They invented the “welcome to country” because Maori visitors from NZ and the Cook Islands wanted an equivalent of their own traditional ceremony before they would dance at the Perth International Arts Festival. The sadness is the gullibility of the people who swallowed it.
Clearly the TEAL candidates in their campaign launch as a national unified community of independents group funded and managed by Holmes-a-Court’s well organized political structure show they are not independents at all but part of a well-organized political party structure, in reality an unregistered political party.

I thought many of us are doing it real tough here in the Dickson Electorate – so I don’t know how anyone could afford supposed donations to political party – many of us struggling to cope and make ends meet – struggling to pay the obscene cost of foods and necessities, water bills, electricity bills, Rates, insurances, registrations, repairs, replacements, basic clothing and everything else ! – many people can’t afford high rents / rented homes extreme shortage – many homeless in tents if they’re lucky enough to have a tent and being chased out of the parks etc., (what happens to their pets they love? ) and how the hell do these poor people bathe and do other personal hygiene – it is horrific – many hungry – it is disgraceful and tragic and those in Governments caused this destruction of our way of life / the economy and the destruction of our freedom, rights and choices and freedom of speech/ expression / opinion / sharing information.

Get rid of the current voting system.
Get a like system, where you vote like on one person who is a candidate you like in your area and the rest leave blank. NO preference voting, no numbering 1-whatever and that is it.

The Senate voting form in Western Australia last election had two columns below the line for independents, on the extreme right were real independents, which had NO VOTING BOX above the line. All the parties had a voting box above the line including one party just called “independents” which was 2nd from the right.
We are left to assume the AEC has concocted this for the advantage of the Teals Party which was not mentioned by name as I recall and I do think I would have been looking for it. I’m sorry I didn’t take a photo of it but maybe Cairns News can get photos of the senate forms in early voting, I am happy to send one from WA as soon as it’s available.
So if you want to vote for real independents you will have to vote below the line only and hopefully these real independents will have the volunteer resources to get their leaflets out at all the polling places, which is a BIG ASK in the senate which is of course state wide.
The crooked AEC could have bundled them as independents and given them a box above the line but they only did this for (presumed) TEAL independents, if this is not evidence of corruption then what is. The crooked AEC does not allow brochures inside its premises any more, this is like asking the average voter do you want McDonalds, Burger King or Lucky Dip, and then no payment system for lucky dip. They are leveraging the stoopidity of the stoopids to the maximum and there is a whole swag of stoopids lining up behind ALP for an extra $20 a week perceived.
I hope the real independents start organising volunteers soon and hopefully combining resources, unfortunately as with the bloggs they tend to be quarrelsome and tend to overlook the objective which is to unseat the sitting member, something Pauline has apparently forgotten in her preference swap deals with Chromedome and National Party.
