SOME Cairns News readers are suffering from a condition I would call hyper-scepticism: they don’t believe all the International Space Station goings on are real.
As it mentioned in my previous article, there are reasons to be sceptical about the Apollo moon missions 50 years ago with its incredibly grainy TV footage of the alleged landing that could have been filmed in a desert location somewhere in Nevada – apart from many other issues like the “lost” telemetry data, original film footage and so on.
However I’m not going to stake my life on it all being faked and neither am I going to take the leap in logic of claiming that all space travel and rocketry is filmed in a Hollywood studio. That is stretching the bounds of credibility and playing with absurdity. One only need research some history around the WW2 V2 rockets to see how advanced the science was that long ago.
As we know Wernher Von Braun and his team of 100 were covertly moved to the US at the end of WW2 under Operation Paperclip to work on the fledgling space and missile industry at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, where V2 rockets stand as monuments to missile technology to this day.
At the risk of triggering the hyper-sceptics again, I have to note that, according to NASA, on October 24, 1946, soldiers and scientists at White Sands Missile Range launched a V-2 missile carrying a 35-millimeter motion picture camera which took the first shots of Earth from space.
“The images were taken at an altitude of 65 miles, just above the accepted beginning of outer space. The film survived the crash landing because it was encased in a steel cassette,” the real and existent Space Centre Houston posts on its website.
We should mention that the first high altitude photos of the earth were taken from balloons named Explorer and Explorer II. The latter floated up to 72,395 feet (13.7 miles) over South Dakota in November 10th, 1935, an amazing technological feat in itself that involved a series of scientific experiments. The first balloon mission ended disastrously on descent as the balloon material ruptured. The crew parachuted to safety.
So, much was known about the stratosphere in the 1930s, when what we might call the first “lower space” missions were carried out. Fast forward some 83 years of technological development to 2018 and the International Space Station is being assembled in orbit. Unbelievable? Really?
You will need to recall that the first “space walk” was performed 53 years earlier by Soviet Cosmonaut Aleksei Leonov on March 18, 1965, so the ability to move around in space inside and outside of space vehicles was long established. This is history that is easily ignored or forgotten on planet Earth, but it’s there to be critically appraised if people took the time to look.
I can assure the sceptics that our featured video of female astronaut Sunita Williams floating around in the ISS is genuine, and not filmed in an anti-gravity chamber in a NASA jet like some scenes in the Apollo 13 movie were.
In various videos Williams moves through the multiple chambers in the space station. Just what sort of jet carries an anti-gravity chamber with multiple other chambers connected by tunnels in all directions?
Williams also demonstrates basics like brushing her teeth, putting the paste and water on the brush and the two methods of disposing of the paste in the mouth. And then she demonstrates how to use the space loo. No, it doesn’t shoot the poo and pee out into space.
Williams is of Indian and Slovenian heritage, has a masters degree in engineering and an impressive US Navy service record. Not only that, for a technical nerd, her demeanour is easy-going and affable. People who think she is trying to “pull one on you” or act out some fake role, should get psychological advice themselves.
Other videos taken inside the ISS (there are numerous) show how a vacuum cleaner attached to a hair clipper deals with the problem of floating hair for haircuts. Shaving is not a problem because the cream holds the whiskers. Eating food is also demonstrated with some fun, as is the machinery for purifying all the waste water.
To suggest all this was faked in one-minute anti-gravity loops in a NASA jet is ludicrous. As the 26-minute video shows, the action is continuous. Some people need to abandon their Luddite-like anti-technological hyper-scepticism and get up to date with 21st Century.

You give no proof for what YOU say…whereas the proof IS out there that we revolve around the the sun….the axis of the Earth…23 1/2 degrees gives us our seasons…everything is perfected and controlled by a Supreme being…the only chaos is that caused by man.
Your reasoning when you say there is no Creator is flawed….IT / HE created the whole universe…He exists because everything in our world is perfectly made…look at your own body…look around you at nature, I marvel at it every day…it is beautiful.

Einstein’s Theory is not a theory for no reason. If it were anywhere near approaching REALITY they’d have at least called it Einstein’s Law.
Nevertheless, in an INFINITELY EXPANDING universe purportedly hurtling at millions of miles an hour through the “vacuum” of infinite outer space it must be rather difficult for them to tell us where the truth might have started and where it might end.
But it wouldn’t matter anyway, it only takes a handful of generations to wipe it out. 🙂

Now here is an easy one that you can prove for yourself. Take a modern digital thermometer outside on a night featuring a full moon. Place the instrument in the shade and take a temperature reading. Then move the instrument into the full moonlight and take another reading. You will discover that it is actually cooler in the moonlight. Imagine that. Now I could provide all kinds of various sound scientific research that reveals that the properties of moonlight and sunlight are completely different but that is best left for the truly interested. In fact, there are so many problems for which science cannot explain regarding the idea that the moon is merely reflecting the light of the sun that I could fill pages with them. Feel free to do your own research at this point. In any case, the implications for the heliocentric model should be obvious.

Well I am not here specifically for this debate or to get involved with flat-earthers, jew-haters or commenter dd2 so if the editor would like to ban and banish me now I would appreciate that ( I don’t ask for much ). As I said I am not a FNQlander, I don’t know the culture, I know only by hearsay about pumpkin scones, I don’t have special experience with crocodiles or wind turbines, it would make it easy for me to very effectively self censor if I was banned so please go ahead now. It would not be unreasonable in the pages of Cairns News to speculate that it crashed somewhere between Perth and Esperance, ( it was going roughly WSW and there are some desolate areas there, ) and they did not want to tell anyone. That’s not my theory but it is A theory.

Thanks for your admonishment and threat of banning, it’s a good idea, please go ahead now.
Having looked into it a bit more all I can say about seeing the ISS is that according to the internet it goes around the world every 90 minutes so it is not a big event if it goes over, but someone must have rung up the TV to tell us it was going over on that particular day because it was in a low orbit. As they say on the commerical channels … not much !!! We are going to advertising !!! So all they told us was go out and have a look it will come from the west after sunset. The orbit appears to be in the actual atmosphere, a very low orbit, much lower than all the space-junk, and a highly variable orbit because it is being boosted regularly due to atmospheric friction.
As I said it was huge, the outline was like a passenger aircraft flying over. We can’t know the size unless we know the altitude. I’ve done enough on this topic now.

Your logical argument is what I’ve been saying for years, and I KNOW FOR CERTAIN it’s true. I’m a retired pilot and I’ve ways followed the basic rule of great circle navigation. Never got lost and I’ve flown some fairly long distances too.
The world is undeniably a sphere.
However, the flat earth v globe earth is THE most ridiculous argument ever engaged in by an amazing number of presumably informed and intelligent people, and the number seems to be growing at quite an alarming rate.
I see it as just another distraction to keep the plebs focused away from the REAL issues that threaten them, which they seem to be blissfully unaware of, or simply don’t believe.
And they think they’re ‘awake’.
By far the biggest criticism by glerthers (globe earthers) against flerthers (flat earthers) who provide many examples of observing objects from a distance is, they say, “atmospheric refraction” and “observable height” are not taken into account. And, they have a point, when multiple examples can be “debunked”, using the Advanced Earth Curve Calculator, seen at the bottom of this post.
However, when the following experiment is provided, the “rules” change, to bring in other factors. I am not saying the earth is flat YET, But this clearly needs to be debunked by glerthers without resorting to name calling, and it needs to be debunked according to the scientific rules that they imposed originally ie “atmospheric refraction” and “observable height”, rather than changing the criteria mid game.
This was the experiment. It was done using a laser at night time over a very flat surface at a temp just below freezing point. For those wishing to see the experiment it can be found here on You Tube (enter exact words):

At an extreme 97% Atmospheric Refraction the target comes into view, proving the glerther correct? Below 97% the target CANNOT be seen, proving the flerther correct?
The question is, what is the reasonable allowance for atmospheric refraction according to accepted science on a very cold night 20% 50% 100%…?
The maximum atmospheric refraction recorded scientifically, particularly under rare and extreme conditions, typically ranges from 40% to 50% beyond standard refraction (7/6 Earth radius or about 16.67%). These events are rare and generally occur due to temperature inversions or unusual superior mirages. Context and examples include: (1) Superior Mirages (2) Temperature Inversions (3) Fata Morgana
My conclusion: Even under the most extreme, scientifically recorded conditions, atmospheric refraction rarely exceeds 50% beyond standard refraction. This makes a 97% refraction allowance, (or even 70%) as in the salt flats laser experiment, impossible under normal or even unusual EXTREME conditions. If such a high refraction allowance were necessary for visibility, it would indeed challenge the globe Earth model’s explanation for distant observations.

Which is strictly equivalent to an object about 1 metre wide, viewed at a distance of 4 km.
Admittedly a stretch, but doable for someone with excellent visual acuity, particularly if there’s nothing else to clutter up the visual field, as in the case of looking straight up into the night sky.
And on that basis, the structural details of the ISS should certainly be visible through a decent pair of binoculars if you can find it in the first place.

You can still see far further into the distance, via a powerful Nikon P1000 camera.
There should be curvature as such far distance, but isn’t.

I recall another instance, I was driving around up north of WA and could see the BHP HBI plant, it was about 10 storeys high or whatever, could see it on the horizon form about 40km away.
Another easy example, go up to “Arthurs Seat”, the mountain on the Mornington Peninsula and look back over the bay and you will see all the Melbounre hi-rises appearing over the horizon. Perfectly visible and much bigger than a dot even though about 40km away from memory.

One fault I picked up from Sunita Williams was a statement that “outside it can be very hot or cold”. My understanding is that there is no heat outside the space craft as there is no air to hold the heat. When I saw the ISS go overhead it was about the size of a passenger jet but obviously further away. Passenger jets go over here frequently and if you hold a 50 cent piece at arm’s length they would appear about that size. The ISS would be about 10 times further away at a guess, I am not going to do the numbers. Whatever the size of the ISS is claimed, it has solar panels extended out too. I could see nothing in the videos of the latest lunar eclipse to show that the Earth is flat. There was only a partial curved shadow from two angles but would suggest to me that the Earth is a globe. In any case, why would Earth be a different shape from other planetary bodies?
All previous supposed photographs of a lunar eclipse also show the Earth’s shadow upon the moon to be a globe.

A while ago a commercial TV channel told me the ISS would be going over after sunset so I wandered down to the beach which was deserted and waited about 10 or 20 minutes, the clouds were thin and a bit patchy, the ISS came nearly directly overhead and it was huge, it was lit up with white, green and purple lights from memory. A couple who were busy discussing something walked past and didn’t look up, I’m not a tour guide so I let them keep going. Nobody around here seemed to come out of their house even though conditions were excellent.
