SO the Proud Little Man has quit. A bit too late for the Nats, though, don’t you think? Matt Canavan is now in there as leader, so we might as well wave the Nationals goodbye as they desperately surge along like they’re being carried down with the Queensland floodwaters to gush through the channel country and into Lake Eyre, or out to sea in SA.
Littleproud’s effigy was floated down the Murray River once before, so drowning in a torrent of floodwater when the Nats have done us no favours with the Murray Darling Basin Plan (MDBP) – is probably the flood of poetic justice the Nats need.
Did Sussan think her Leying down would create a One Nation tsunami that would take Littleproud out? Who would have thought?
The Farrer by-election has become a political flash flood. We note that One Nation’s pre-selection meeting in Albury, Sussan Ley’s base, attracted 600 members (of more than three months) from the local region. This fact alone must be putting the wind up the Nats – well, the Uni-Party as a whole, actually. Six hundred One Nation members bother to rock up to a pre-selection meeting in Sussan’s heartland to vote in a candidate to contest Farrer – no wonder Sussan resigned.
This is one hell of an electoral barometer! The barometric pressure on the Nats, and Libs for that matter, is a cyclonic indication that the twister has sucked them up and is now dumping them hard. The Big Wet has washed the scales off the eyes of even their rusted-on supporters.
It’s about time too, because that “bush” loyalty was misplaced for a long time, vested in the Nats when they let the bush down again and again, voting with the UniParty rather than returning the loyalty afforded them.
I stood for the State seat here in ‘91. I thought then that people were sick of the major parties, and I found out later that the Nats thought I was going to win. I was wrong, and it’s taken this long for a wake-up and rebellion.
I was told by a Labor man that the Nats made a point of taking my how to vote cards at the polling booths rather than Nats, but they “did what Nats always do, they went in and voted National.” I’ve never forgotten that – a salient lesson in rusted-on, but repeatedly misplaced loyalty.
That loyalty has been battered and bush-bashed to bits, and here in Farrer and the abundantly productive Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area and wider Riverina, water is a huge issue, and underpins our massive production.
Sussan Ley did dismal naught to stand up for us. She showed no understanding of the UN’s interference in our water sovereignty, didn’t care or kick up a fuss that the international water-grabbers were controlling our water, and was content that our farmers are forced to pay for even the water allocation they don’t receive.
This utter neglect in Farrer to tackle head-on the biggest issue here – the water that undergirds our whole economy, without which there would be no population or industries – has finally been punished. The flow-on effect of this with 600 people turning up to vote for a One Nation pre-selection is retribution.
Water matters, as demonstrated by One Nation members (and as opposed to the Uni-Parties’ top-heavy selection maneuverings) electing David Farley to contest Farrer. I think they got it right. We now have a highly credible candidate who has a deep understanding of the water issues and has lobbied for many years for the Lake Coolah storage/dam – a no-brainer.
It’s a natural depression, that modified, would enable overflow water to be stored and used. But, we mustn’t have too much common sense – the boffins can’t allow that, and their dubious side-benefits would certainly disappear, so it’s been an uphill battle. Farley though, has a track record of fighting for common sense water solutions.
Vision is lacking
We need more vision in Australia, or more will to implement vision. It’s sadly lacking, and it cruels production. Neither the Nats nor the Libs have been any help to us on this, especially in the water and energy spaces, so any deluge resulting in a torrent washing them out to sea is a very welcome storm.
The Libs might be sorry Sussan took her bat and went home, but it’s indicative of the Uniparty’s disrespect for their constituents, as they surf into the sunset with a whopping parliamentary pension provided by the same mug taxpayers they’ve blatently disregarded for so long.
Sussan’s flash-flood overflowed to release a One Nation tsunami that collected David Littleproud and swept him out to sea. Another retiree on a party leader’s pension? Will this create another by-election?
He’s likely to pick up one of those “jobs-for-the-boys” somewhere over the rainbow. I have a cartoon in my head of the Nats assuming leadership and resigning one-by-one until they’ve all gone, having walked away with the party leader’s salary/pension perks.
What matters to Farrer, and possibly the nation down the track, is that David Farley’s been swept in as a solid One Nation candidate who understands agriculture and water.
We need someone who will stand up and kick in the bureaucratic doors of Canberra, someone who can explain to the dumbest of the dumb the basics of life. One Nation’s hung in there to date, despite the dirty politics, and with candidates like David Farley, Malcolm Roberts, Pauline Hanson and the addition of Barnaby to the stable, there might be light at the end of the very long tunnel for a decent rural voice.
But make no mistake, it will be difficult. Labor said first up they wouldn’t run a candidate. I thought they ultimately would, just to preference the Libs/Nats away from One Nation.
Uniparty leader Albo has already called for the Coalition to preference One Nation last. I firmly believed the ALP and Libs/Nats would preference each other, and even the Teal-by-any-other-name, Climate 200 “Independent” Michelle Milthorpe, before One Nation.
I’d be prepared to re-consider that now, because the Nats (and even the Libs), with Littleproud out and Ley gone, might just want to be seen to regain some credibility by pretending they are different, and not tarred with the Uniparty brush. Pigs might fly as the remnant Nats struggle to argue that one at this stage.
We live in interesting times, now the chickens are coming home to roost above the flood-waters. However, We Oughta Vote for Water and David Farley is Farrer’s best bet yet.

I like Canavan. He’s done the talk. Now let’s see him do the walk. He’ll need a bit of courage and support to do that. If we can’t give it to him, we won’t get it back from him.
They only get elected where their opposition is seen to be worse than they are .
I am one of those old geezers (age 81) that Joe Bogan 2 mentions. I have lived almost all that time in Western Australia and am convinced that the climate has not warmed in those years from my younger days. In fact this last summer is the coolest I can remember.
I do not have air conditioning. Only the sea breeze known as the Fremantle Doctor, which has been mostly part of my life during summer months, as I have been domiciled mostly on coastal areas. This summer is the first that I can remember sleeping without unpleasant discomfort.
Today, inside house the temperature is 24 degrees (11.37 am). Normally the first couple of weeks in March can be in the high 20’s to low 30’s.
It is a known fact that weather and climate do change but it is usually a slow process which can and does reverse in mid stream. Some years are warmer than others but not because man has stopped smoking or we are able to manage bush fires more effectively. If man was the source of the so called increased temperature ranges, how come with the MASSIVE increase in motor vehicles and aircraft the world over. there is not a provable rate of increase in atmospheric temperature?
I consider those people complaining of increasing temperature, either have poor memories, are liars or believe everything placed in the media. Just like those that keep talking about the Covid-19 that never existed.
We need politicians who have the guts to do what the Iranians are doing to the U.S. and Israel. Stand up for our independent rights. Although I could not go along with their religion (or anybody else’s) they are portraying to the world that bullies are not invincible. A bit of pain may be incurred but with sensible research and practicalities the right result may be achieved.
This article is a good follow up to my recent comment whereby I suggested that the idea of Australian Superannuation funds being invested into Trump’s U.S. infrastructure needs is a treasonous idea. We have sufficient infrastructure requirements here in our own country to be financed, if only our politicians and governments ( and Super Fund managers) had the guts to look after ourselves first. But no, those just mentioned are brainwashed into doing what is demanded by overseas interests.
I agree with Hopeful.
The writer of this opinion piece is too quick to have one, so let’s just wait and see how his leadership unrolls.
If Canavan is for Australia First then he is a threat to One Nation and all those who didn’t want to vote for the foreign flag scarf wearing Orange Party who parade as an alternative.
Canavan has said he wants to bring back coal, bring back the larrikan, bring back free speech, take back Australia.
Maybe the Politicians who serve foreign interests should sit up and take notice.
Maybe they secretly want that too.
It’s time to cut the apron strings of overlords and stop being fed the leftovers.
Australia needs to grow up.
And learn some historical truths about how the world really runs.
Until we say it doesn’t.

This bloody rubbish is based on a FICTIONAL reality. Our votes don’t count! Only the Uniparties votes count.
Yesterday hideous tax-funded propaganda unit the ABC-TV ran a piece on a Teals Party MP who is trying to broaden her appeal and make a bit of space between herself and the Global Warming Hoax, pushed by her controller, S. Hacca. Of course there was a scandal or case of some sort going against one or two of these Teals party minions for getting telephoned directives from the controller, to hush up something or another, but if the M$M won’t run it we forget about it as intended.
Today on nasty ABC-TV was global warming saying various small cities had got hotter, they didn’t seem to discover any which had got cooler. Of course if you put down more carparks, black-top roads, have more car engines idling in the traffic jams and all the airconditioners pumping hot air out, the urban “heat-island” will get hotter. Then they rolled out an old geezer who seemed to be surviving all his boosters, presumably placebos, who said it was getting hotter. They seem to think the climate should be “climate controlled” like an air conditioner, you just set it to 24.5 degrees and if it doesn’t stay there it must be broken. These mindless morons are programming susceptible voters and making them bovine. Many, many government careers depend on the gullibility of ABC-TV viewers, and many billions of dollars of superannuation are set aside for them in smirking Peter Costello’s “future fund”.
With all the news stories in the world the ABC-TV is trying to cover up, this is the grade of material they choose to cover it up with. Teals Party propaganda and Global Warming rubbish from last century. Waterfront hi-rises keep going up everywhere from Gold Coast to Florida to Gaza ( projected ). There needs to be mass sackings at the ABC-TV. We are not well served by the slimy creatures dwelling in the dregs of this murky little swamp.
Thanks for sharing your wisdom with all of us who follow your work
The author said – “… We need more vision in Australia…”
Damn right, a vision of sturdy rope and lamp posts.
And the author said – “… or more will to implement vision…”
… of sturdy rope and lamp posts. And there’ll be LOTS of will to implement the vision when we’ve all got NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE.
Five or six more years, folks.
Talk from the backbench is cheap. We shall know him by his deeds! Will he have the courage to call out the slow motion demolition of Australia by the treacherous and corrupt Australian Uniparty and push for the removal of the judas goats who are destroying Australia? Let us hope in miracles.
Lol nothing will change. Nationals deserve to be condemned to the dustbin of history – useless trash who did nothing to protect farmers from the banks, did nothing to protect firearm ownership, and did nothing to protect industry/ag/resources sector from foreign takeovers.
Aussies = bovine.
Neville that’s gold mate. Comment of the bloody year.
All the minute by minute stuff is for others, I am waiting for Matt to tear down NettZero and like Trump, let other people do the rest. The rest is, expose the ClimateChange fraud for what it is. The fraudulent and extremely stoopid Teals and Greens still appear to think they are saving the world from … CO2 !!! Why don’t they ban fizzy drinks in that case. They are nutters, so unfit for government. Instead of saving the world they are WASTING RESOURCES which might be spent saving koala bears, very small frogs, bush remnants, rivers or whatever. They are playing into the hands of the capitalists, they have no regard for science, they have turned it into a religion. These windmills cost way too much and offshore is pure idiocy. Greens and Teals are either dumb beyond belief or else manipulative and evil like the Red Team with their Globalist agenda : never voted on, never workshopped, just rolled out, censorship, extra tax, loss of rights, all the communist stuff straight from Davos and Club of Rome in Swissyland. People don’t know Matt Canavan he is a very deft speaker, uses the right amount of leverage. The horrible ALP’s election promise was to reduce electricity prices and instead they went up. They said nothing about their Globalist policies. Along with Green and Teal rumps we may as well be run from Swissyland.
The most uninspiring politician I have been listening to for a number of years just scored the gig to be boss cocky of the mob refered to as being the Nationals a description that fits the uniparty precisely .
The closest I see them to being rural is their BS .
