For the first time since the April 29, 1996 Port Arthur massacre of 35 innocent adults and children we have obtained a copy of then Liberal Prime Minister John Howard’s letter of July 2, 1996 to the families of the victims.
In the letter Howard offers condolences to 31 next of kin and to 18 of those injured, yet almost gloats how he would disarm Australia.

Just eight weeks after the tragedy and having participated in numerous funerals it is hard to imagine the families of mourning victims being too worried about Australia “sliding towards and American-style gun culture,” as Howard wrote, going on to summarise the gun control measures federal and state governments would take.
It would seem for these families that closing the gate after the horse has bolted is somewhat disingenuous and certainly was not going to do anything to bring their loved ones back.
It is notable that Howard refers to “dangerous firearms.”
The tragedy led to the biggest political shakeup on gun control in the country’s history and generated a storm of controversy, outrage and debate that has continued unabated to this day.

Now 29 years after the event many Australians are asking more questions about a proven psychological operation developed to help disarm the country than they did in its immediate aftermath.

The kill shot for the police and government narrative was when Channel 7 in 2021 was commissioned to televise a video of the police interview with Bryant, trying to take the heat out of the failing cover story which proved to be a fatal error.
Witness statements about the long haired male who was randomly firing at people in a car park said he was a right- handed shooter when the Channel 7 video of the police interview with Bryant revealed he was a left-handed shooter.
All documentation and files have been locked up from public scrutiny for a further 75 years confirming authorities have much to hide as John Howard. Pauline Hanson was briefed extensively about the Port Arthur operation more than 20 years ago by her party members but was mercilessly cut down by legacy media and Liberal politicians when she suggested the massacre was a planned, operational exercise.

However, the conspirators tried to implicate gunsmith Terry Hill as the provider of the AR-10 and had Bryant (under the firearm license of ‘Ryan’) got the Hill’s gun shop with the AR-10 complaining of a mechanical problem. When Bryant laid the AR-10 on the counter, Hill removed the magazine revealing it was loaded. Hill then worked the action and ejected a live round from the chamber. Hill then confiscated the firearm and told Bryant he would have to get an order from the police to release it. Hill then logged the firearm into his records, which was 34 days before the massacre.
The conspirators then had a problem as they wanted to ban semi-automatic center-fire rifles. SO, they found a SLR to substitute for the massacre. Big problem, all the Australian SLRs that had been sold into the community were registered. No problem for the conspirators, they had access to armories of unregistered firearms to use in their covert actions. So they picked one up that wasn’t registered. That proved to be a mistake as the SLR they got was a METRIC threaded SLR from Europe and wasn’t an IMPERIAL threaded SLR from Australia.

It also firmly put to bed the lie that the video equipment had failed and only an audio tape was left.
Bryant is in a wheelchair in some clips, a chair in others, the background keeps changing, the angle of the camera changes, the people who are interviewing him changes – it appears they were setting up the location and camera each day they interviewed him.
Initially, when the written interview was published, Andrew Macgregor and Stewart Beatty noticed ‘gaps; in the written interview. They assumed that sections if not pages were taken out. Once Channel 7 ran their program the cat was out of the bag, the video was a ‘cut and splice’ of days worth of questioning.
Considering the length of time that Bryant was questioned, the full length interviews, over days, would likely have much information that the government wouldn’t like to see the light of day.

I got to see the ORIGINAL POLICE EYES ONLY video which had a VERY good scan of the killer’s tray with the Solo can and the planted ‘blue bag’ of incriminating evidence. This video has eliminated that pan of the table and the tray with a dead person directly behind it.
This video only has a short, quick scan of that tray from a different angle. That tray contains the fingerprints, and DNA from saliva, sweat, skin and possibly hair from the killer. – The forensic analysis of the tray did not show that Bryant ate from that tray as they started doing a strapped-up ‘witness statement’ of survivors some 2-6 weeks after that massacre. They had a problem with the existence of that tray.
In fact, shortly after the massacre one of the newspapers showed a picture of the alleged tray in a PRISTINE cafe’. We all realized it was a photo-shopped picture and we wondered why it was in the paper. Only years later, when we got the Police Eyes Only video did we realize that the tray had been preserved. The photo in the papers was a ‘red herring’ to divert any attention away from the possibility that the actual tray was preserved. – “Oh, you only remember that picture in the newspaper”
Rebecca McKenna’s witness statement, who was eating at the same table of the killer, indicated that the killer was NOT wearing gloves. Her statement was RE-WRITTEN to state that she saw the tray tip out of the killer’s hand as he entered the Cafe’. She wrote in the margin, “I did not see it fall, I only saw it tip.” – They were trying to get rid of that tray.

It is obvious that there was a gunman or gunmen apart from Martin Bryant, who may or may not have fired a shot. Much as I have concerns about most of our current government policies and about some of the Howard government policies, I do not agree with bitter attacks on PM John Howard. He had no knowledge of firearms (like I do, having been in the school cadet corps – I am know 75 years old). He was merely a mediocre suburban solicitor, who, like most other PMs and Premiers, was entirely surrounded by and limited by the sycophantic bureaucrats and advisers around him, SOME of whom would have known what really happened. It is possible that he did not, and still does not, understand what happened. Many years ago I spoke to Wendy Scurr on the telephone. I live in northern NSW, and she in Tasmania was the first person at Port Arthur to call 000.
John Howard should be put before a firing squad for what he did in murdering those 35 people and blaming it on a less than normally sensible youth who could not have possibly performed that action.
