Japan concerned over China’s security agreement with Solomon Islands

Tokyo, Apr 25 (AP) Japan is sending a vice foreign minister to the Solomon Islands on Monday amid worry over a recent security agreement that the South Pacific nation struck with China that could increase Beijing’s military influence in the region.

Vice Foreign Minister Kentaro Uesugi’s three-day trip to Solomon Islands comes on the heels of a visit by a senior U.S. delegation, who warned that Washington would take unspecified action against the South Pacific nation should the security deal with China pose a threat to U.S. or allied interests.

The security pact, which China and the Solomons confirmed last week, has also alarmed neighbouring countries and Western allies, including Japan, that fear a military buildup in the

“We believe the deal could affect the security of the entire Asia-Pacific region and we are watching the development with concern,” Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said Friday.

Japan’s Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi is off to the Solomon Islands to investigate China’s new military deal

Uesugi, during his visit to the Solomon Islands, is expected to convey Japan’s concern about the security pact and discuss bilateral and regional issues.

Japan sees China’s increasingly assertive military activity in the East and South China seas as a threat in some of the world’s busiest sea lanes.

Japan is especially concerned about Chinese military and coast guard activity in the East China Sea near the Japanese-controlled Senkaku islands, which China also claims and calls Diaoyu.

Tokyo has in recent years significantly stepped up security cooperation and expanded joint drills with the United States and other Western partners, including Australia, India, France, Britain and Germany, that share its concerns about China’s growing influence.

One of the few patriots left who understands the system and how it has been totally subverted under every citizen's nose. If we can help to turn it around we will, otherwise our children will have nothing. Our investigations show there is no 'government' of the people for the people of Australia. The removal of the Crown from Australian Parliaments, followed by the incorporation of Parliaments aided by the Australia Act 1987 has left us with corporate government with policies not laws, that apply only to members of political parties and the public service. There is no law, other than the Common Law. This fact will be borne out in the near future as numerous legal challenges in place now, come to a head soon.

  1. “Such a common protection zone leaves China under no illusions about how we all view China’s imperialism.”

Oh yes, Chinese Imperialism…. Where was it again? Solomon Islands and where else?

  2. kaiwanshou and others… please tell us more.

This is what we lack in Australia; eyes on the ground, which leaves us open to be run in ragged circles by Ruper Murdoch and his manipulative banker pals.

  3. Australia and India need to join with eastern Pacific nations to form a protection zone that excludes the US. In that way, China can see this has nothing to do with US global hegemony and everything to do with alarm over increasingly despotic behaviour from China.

Such a common protection zone leaves China under no illusions about how we all view China’s imperialism.

  4. Very astute, for sure, Aunty. If the pandemic went in lockstep, then everything else will too, won’t it?
As they say in politics: Nothing happens by accident, and if it does, it is called a CRISIS, because the Plan has not gone to plan..

  5. obviousbob: It’s not a suspicion, trust your savvy gut that “China & Russia will pull a cauldron offensive… to encircle the world”, they will. “If the Ukraine intervention does not end soon & normal trade & trade lines open again” It won’t, Ukraine bs is nothing that’s compared to what’s coming around the corner. The evil mongrels moving the chess pieces don’t want trade lines open. “The entire globe is in for a very bad time – mass starvation etc” Yes, that’s what’s before us. It’s going to be a long hard rough ride mate

  6. “The security pact, which China and the Solomons confirmed last week, has also alarmed neighbouring countries and Western allies, including Japan, that fear a military buildup in the

lmao But Ukraine joining NATO and NATO expansion to the Russian borders, including nuclear missiles on Russia’s borders, is NOT a military build up? US military presence in the China Sea is also a benign influence of course, they have nowhere else to sail.

Anybody who doesn’t see what’s ACTUALLY being done there is either comatose or simply stupid, despite what the politicians and the MSM are telling them.

  7. Japan is a US puppet since you know when.
China is surrounded by 17 US bases, then there’s all the US Bases in good ol’ Aussie.
The US leases their deepest water harbour to the Chinese, we leased Darwin Harbour to them and a deep water harbour with military capable airstrip to them north of Perth. Then the Feds leased an island to them directly opposite the US Base in NW WA.
Personally I think it’s all smoke and mirrors, that is China has volunteered to play the boogie man in a game set up to keep us soiling our pants.
I’ve lived in China until 4 years ago and there are all the European manufacturing including Airbus, the American, Delta Airlines jet engines made there, lots of Japanese corporations, Apples’ Taiwanese factory making all Apple products in Shenzhen. Almost all American cars and trucks made there, same for Europe. Taiwanese operate all of China’s transport infrastructure including airports, ports and the fast rail. Even Chinese Road Toll booths manned by Taiwanese people. Qantas trains and tests all Chinese commercial pilots. MERSK and COSCO merged to create total dominance of world wide shipping. Recall the “China” Evergrand ship run aground in the Suez Canal! There’s more and more you can see just traveling around there.
China has enormous areas of land dedicated to organic agriculture in the South. They have reclaimed their deserts. The largest vineyards on the planet for more than 100 years and won international awards in wines.
Ask any one who have been to China for a holiday, they loved it!
Irrespective of the games between us and China, they love us Aussies. The CCP has an office in every school there and they all must learn and pass an exam on how Australia brought them out of obscurity. They know he difference between us and our governments!

  8. Do not make the Japanese history public, because they cannot see the splinter in their own eyes.

  9. So Japan is worried about China’s security agreement with the Solomon Islands notwithstanding that they are located thousands of kilometres from Japan’s shores. That China has legitimate security concerns in relation to the sizable US military presence in Japan, South Korea and the Pacific region is ignored. Fine for me but not for thee!

  10. Maybe it is time the Taiwanese shoot those 20 missiles off and take out the Three Gorges Dam?
That will sink the CCP big time.
My suspicion is that China and Russia will pull a cauldron offensive, in one way or another, to encircle the entire world.
If the Ukraine intervention does not end soon, and normal trade and trade lines open again, the entire globe is in for a very bad time-mass starvation, etc, etc.
