Readers might find it interesting that in the Howard era a survey was done of construction industry workers, a vast majority of whom actually voted for the Liberals that particular election cycle.
The workers, in my fairly long experience, were never consulted on donations to any party, let alone Labor. I was just automatic.
As a CFMEU member and construction worker in the heyday of the apartment developments along St Kilda Rd and around in the mid to late 1990s I was aware of the corruption then, though it was nowhere near as extreme as has been reported now lately.
There is no avoiding corruption in industries that turn over billions of dollars, and in the mid-90s was recognised by all parties, workers included, and was essentially unavoidable, as we all know.
But what has transpired in the Big Build era is inexcusable, mostly because the unspeakably corrupt Victorian government has condoned it, as it has the corruption in local Victorian councils.

I know Ian, and he is one of the most decent peopel I have ever met have done since the second time I saw him in the Melbourne papers, as evidenced by the story of the deaf girl he hired.
It goes like this: the deaf girl’s sister worked for Ian at iCook iFoods, and one day asked Ian if her sister could get a job.
“Sure”, said Ian, having advised Ian, in the course of asking him, that her sister was profoundly deaf: as long as she could work safely. And she did, becoming one of this best workers, earning a thousand dollars a week and paying off the house that she lived in with her mum and dad.
When Ian’s company went down, the deaf lass lost her job, and they lost the house, and the poor lass spent the next several months just crying her eyes out.
As far as I am concerned, that sort of thing is a hanging crime, and has only occurred because of the entrenched greed of others.
Ian told me yesterday that, as many Victorians might do: if Labor wins again in Victorian, he is pulling up stakes completely and leaving and never coming back.
I think that a lot of Victorians might be on the highway out should this disgraceful Victorian government ever get elected again.

I am in my 70’s & know full well the mega bullying tactics of the CFMEU over the years. Their speciality has always been to use heavy handed tactics of an extreme nature if necessary. These stand over men are toxic thugs & have been linked with the bikie scene for years.This union & others are rife with criminality & in their own eyes are proud of constantly threatening people if it be deemed necessary.
