US President Donald Trump on Saturday said France was “burning down” because it opened its borders to people who “hate it”, dismissing claims that protests were linked to education.

They hate France. They hate the people of France,” Trump said while addressing a campaign rally for Republican candidates in Perry, Georgia.
Using the current situation in France as an example, Trump drew a parallel to immigration policies of the US as he said, “And you know what you do with those people? Never let them come into your country. That’s what we do. But now, Ossoff (Georgia senator) wants to import millions and millions of anti-American third-world migrants who see our civilization as nothing but a target to loot, plunder, and pillage. And we’re not going to let that happen. We’re not letting it happen,” said Trump, targeting the US Senator Jon Ossoff.
As part of the US immigration crackdown, the Trump administration has revoked more than 300,000 visas since Trump returned to office, the State Department confirmed. Last month, the administration also froze certain Green Card filings by eight firms, including India’s Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys, and launched probes into nine elite universities over alleged fraud and concerns about American job losses.

La violence politique doit être condamnée. Elle doit également être comprise. Se demander pourquoi des personnes menacent des responsables politiques n’excuse pas ces menaces, pas plus qu’enquêter sur les causes de la criminalité n’excuse les criminels.
Le dernier chiffre global rapporté concernant les menaces à l’encontre de titulaires de fonctions publiques est passé de 951 à 1 067, soit une hausse de 116, ou 12,2 %. Ces chiffres englobent les signalements de harcèlement, de nuisances, de comportements offensants et de menaces. Ils ne se limitent pas à un simple décompte des agressions physiques. Néanmoins, l’augmentation à long terme est considérable : l’AFP a signalé 555 incidents en 2021–22, contre 1 067 en 2025–26. Cela représente une augmentation de 512, soit près d’un doublement, en seulement quatre ans.
Cela exige une explication sérieuse. Qu’est-il advenu de la relation entre les Australiens et leurs représentants politiques ainsi que leurs responsables gouvernementaux ?
La propre évaluation des menaces réalisée par l’AFP identifie les pressions économiques, notamment l’inflation, les taux d’intérêt et le coût de la vie, parmi les facteurs susceptibles de susciter des comportements menaçants. Les Australiens deviennent-ils de plus en plus hostiles parce qu’ils estiment que les responsables politiques ignorent leurs problèmes ? La confiance s’est-elle détériorée parce que les gens ont le sentiment que les décisions affectant leurs foyers, leurs moyens de subsistance et leurs communautés leur sont imposées sans véritable consentement ?
Un commentateur de X, se présentant comme un habitant de la circonscription d’Indi, a qualifié l’attaque présumée contre Haines d’horrible, mais a expliqué comment les agriculteurs locaux, confrontés à des projets d’énergie solaire, éolienne, de stockage par batterie et de réseaux de transport d’électricité, se sentaient abandonnés par leur représentant. Ce commentaire n’établit pas le mobile du conducteur, mais il soulève une question légitime : les Australiens concernés estiment-ils que leurs représentants les écoutent et obtiennent des résultats ?
On peut condamner la violence tout en exigeant des réponses concernant les terres, les moyens de subsistance et les décisions gouvernementales. Les revendications pacifiques ne perdent pas leur légitimité parce que quelqu’un commet un acte odieux. Les conservateurs ne devraient pas non plus accepter d’être collectivement tenus pour responsables de l’attaque présumée contre Haines, comme les agitateurs de gauche sur Internet et les commentateurs des grands médias
ont déjà commencé à le faire. Même Albanese et d’autres responsables politiques font passer ce message de manière subliminale lorsqu’ils parlent d’apaiser le débat politique et autres propos du même acabit.
Quiconque propose de rejeter la responsabilité de cet incident sur One Nation ou sur les conservateurs fervents en general se livre lui-même à une rhétorique dangereuse : il tente de criminaliser tout un mouvement politique. Les choix électoraux et les préoccupations de l’agresseur présumé ne rendent aucun parti ou mouvement politique coupable d’une quelconque infraction ; sinon, selon les mêmes critères, tous les musulmans seraient condamnés pour les actes d’un seul terroriste islamiste.
Mais qu’en est-il de la rhétorique politique enflammée ?
Eh bien, lors du congrès du Parti travailliste du Queensland le 30 août, Albanese a qualifié les populistes d’extrême droite de propagateurs d’une politique « dangereuse, source de division et carrément malhonnête », avant d’évoquer One Nation. Le lendemain, la ministre de la Justice Michelle Rowland a associé certains éléments de One Nation à des opinions extrémistes et néonazies. En tant que défenseur de la liberté d’expression, je n’ai aucun scrupule à ce que les politiciens utilisent un langage musclé pour critiquer leurs adversaires, mais leur propre discours doit également être examine lorsqu’ils exigent que tous les autres apaisent les tensions. Et l’insinuation selon laquelle les partisans de la droite seraient les seuls vecteurs de violence en Australie est
manifestement fausse. J’ai moi-même été victime d’intimidation politique de la part de la gauche. Le dimanche suivant les élections fédérales de 2022, je me suis rendu au Breakfast Creek Hotel de Brisbane avec Stephen Andrew, alors député d’État de One Nation. Une horde de syndicalistes s’y trouvait pour célébrer la victoire d’Albanese. Alors que nous dégustions paisiblement une XXXX Bitter au fût de bois dans le bar principal, un syndicaliste en colère m’a interpellé et a cherché la bagarre. Le harcèlement est devenu suffisamment grave pour que l’on doive faire appel à la sécurité.
Stephen et moi nous sommes déplacés vers la salle de restaurant à l’arrière. Plusieurs autres syndicalistes en colère nous ont interpellés là-bas, cherchant eux aussi la bagarre. Et pourquoi ? À cause de nos opinions politiques conservatrices. Finalement, j’ai quitté le pub plus tôt que prévu afin d’éviter une altercation.
Des années auparavant, lors d’une réunion publique à Bowen, je me souviens qu’un partisan des Verts avait mis la main sur ma femme et lui avait dit que nos enfants souffriraient à cause de moi. Mon bureau a également reçu un flot constant de menaces de violence, y compris des menaces de mort, provenant presque exclusivement de personnes extérieures à ma circonscription.
Ces expériences expliquent pourquoi je rejette toute suggestion selon laquelle l’intimidation serait l’apanage d’un seul camp politique. Aucune épouse de politicien ne mérite d’être harcelée. Un représentant de One Nation mérite de profiter de son dîner sans être menacé. Helen Haines mérite de pouvoir exercer son travail en toute sécurité. Les dirigeants politiques doivent condamner la violence sans réserve, la police doit établir les faits relatifs à l’agression présumée contre Helen Haines, et les élus doivent prendre au sérieux les revendications pacifiques. Les Australiens ne devraient jamais à choisir entre leur sécurité et leur droit de participer à la vie politique.
La police enquêtant sur l’agression de ce matin a indiqué que le conducteur présumé avait subi un examen de santé mentale, mais aucun résultat n’a été rendu public. Aucun mobile n’a encore été avancé ; cependant, Helen Haines soutient les Teals, qui votent principalement selon le programme des Verts, et est une adepte du cataclysme climatique ; elle aurait donc pu être prise pour cible en raison de la destruction environnementale généralisée de terres agricoles précieuses et de forêts indigènes dans l’État de Victoria, causée par des énergies renouvelables irresponsables. – Réd.

Mais il n’existe aucune preuve concrète que l’attaque ait été motivée par des raisons politiques ou idéologiques. D’après ces publications sur les réseaux sociaux, Nugent aurait apparemment adhéré à un mélange hétéroclite de convictions de centre-gauche, et il n’y a aucun lien évident entre celles-ci et ce qui s’est passé. »

En ce qui concerne ce que l’ancien ministre de la Santé Greg Hunt a qualifié de « plus grande expérience au monde », c’est-à-dire le déploiement des vaccins anti-Covid, et ses répercussions, le mieux que les médias grand public puissent faire, c’est de manipuler l’opinion.
