From Derek Sloan,
Ontario Party leader
LAST Friday, the verdict from Pastor Derek Reimer’s recent trial was given, and he was found guilty on two criminal charges relating to peaceful protests against Drag Story hours at Calgary area libraries.
It appears the government won’t quit until they’ve found him guilty on all counts, even though Derek has been fighting these charges for over four years. Derek was initially found not guilty on these charges two years ago, but then a higher court overturned his original verdict of “not guilty”, and ordered a retrial, which just convicted him of criminal mischief and causing a disturbance.
To financially support Derek’s appeal, see details in comments below.
Derek’s sentence will be given on October 29, and the prosecutor is asking for two years of additional probation, and restrictions on Derek’s social media usage. This is what Pastor Derek’s friends are calling the “Marxist Muzzle”, which are conditions that prevent Pastor Derek from speaking and spreading the truth.
To them, that’s the ultimate goal of this, to tie Pastor Derek down and silence his voice. Currently, his bail conditions are doing just that, as they have prevented him from being on social media for the last 9 months or so. Now they want to extend it for two more years. This is outrageous and needs to be stopped.
Pastor Derek Reimer has seen it all the last four years. He’s been through two municipal trials, three criminal trials, three breach hearings, a criminal appeal trial, has been arrested five times, and has spent 111 days in jail since 2022.
All of this relates to charges stemming from his peaceful protests at Drag Story hours directed towards children at Calgary area libraries. A Drag story hour is when a “Drag Queen” (a man dressed as a woman) reads books to children, typically books that promote gender ideology or other LGBT themes.
Even when he caught a break on some of his charges and was found not guilty, the government simply appealed until they won.
In our bizarre world, no good deed goes unpunished. Our government winks at real violence, and treats words and political views as if they were crimes instead.
Data repeatedly shows real criminals let out on bail are committing violent crimes (eg. 70% of Toronto homicides involved people out on bail or with prior convictions) – yet for the “wrong think” crime Pastor Derek has committed, bail has been hard to come by!
Pastor Derek has already decided to appeal, and needs to raise funds to do so. To help Derek fight these unjust charges, see info in comments below. We must not let this stand as precedent in our legal system.
For those who are unfamiliar with the legal rollercoaster Derek has been on the last few years, I will detail a few of the absurdities, and a few of the triumphs – ways in which God has worked this out for good notwithstanding others intending to do Derek evil.
The courts have dealt with Derek’s charges (oddly enough) in two separate criminal trials. One trial related to his protests (which he was just convicted on), the other to a 90 second conversation he had a with a library manager expressing his disapproval of the Drag Story hour they hosted.
After being charged and convicted with “criminal harassment” for his conversation with the library manager, Derek was given a sentence of one year house arrest, and two years probation. His strict conditions impacted not only his freedom but his ability to earn income for his family. His one year’s house arrest was up near the end of November 2025. But it wasn’t enough to simply let him serve the time.
One of his conditions was that he had to write an apology letter to the library manager. Remember, Derek didn’t yell, scream, or swear, he simply told the manager he disagreed with these events. Pastor Derek felt there was no way to write the letter without recanting his strongly held beliefs.
He sought advice from others he trusted, and determined it was an unjust intrusion on his conscience, and further, that the media would likely use the letter as a way to undo all of his work. The headline “Pastor apologizes for Drag Story hour protest” would probably be immediately written, and it would undermine the work Pastor Derek has done to expose this issue.
Pastor Derek tried to have his condition to write the apology letter lifted, and was prepared to offer other things in exchange for it, like doing additional community service, etc. He explained his religious convictions to the Judge, who was the same judge that had convicted and sentenced him to begin with. It turned into a spectacular court-room show-down.
As Pastor Derek told me before, “I explained freedom of conscience thoroughly, [and] I got into my deeply held conviction and religious beliefs about Jesus Christ. I said, ‘He is the King of Kings…and the Judge of Judges and you wouldn’t have power over me at all unless it has been given to you from above’, and we were both staring each other dead in the eyes when I said that…
“I continued…my arguments and submissions…and she just kept jumping in ‘Mr. Reimer, Mr. Reimer’ and I didn’t stop…I just kept going and she walked out of her own room, and then the gallery of about three dozen supporters erupted into applause, and I turned with my arms open and said something like ‘This is the condition of our courts”.” Even though there wasn’t a publication ban, Derek says the Rebel News reporter was also kicked out of the hearing.
What a stunning court-room show-down! This kind of scene is something you’d typically only see in a movie. Pastor Derek says the judge walked out without even letting him finish his submissions. He was ultimately arrested for not fulfilling this condition, along two other alleged “breaches”.
As with his other “breaches”, Derek’s wife Mona says they seemed to be splitting every hair to find and/or concoct breaches. At his bail hearing, Mona tells me they brought up five supposed breaches.
One was failing to write the apology letter, but others had to do with mentioning the “offended librarian” in an online post discussing his case. He says he didn’t mention her name, or anything else, he just said ” offended librarian”. According to Mona this was considered an indirect breach of the condition not to contact the manager.
They also said he was posting information about her. Really?? There’s two words there. There’s no identifying markers. The degree to which the prosecution stretched to find breaches is unbelievable.
But in all this – Pastor Derek has had God’s comfort and peace. Pastor Derek says when he had his first bail hearing after arrest this past summer, “I heard a still small voice on my heart saying “prepare yourself”, and I thought uh-oh, so I didn’t know how long it would be, but I knew I had to prepare (it ended up being 60 days in jail)…it was an incredible opportunity, I was on a mission, this is the Lord’s battle, the Lord had me there for a reason.
“I missed Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, my anniversary, my son learning to crawl, his first two teeth, and even my birthday … they had a birthday party for me outside the jail. But I didn’t miss the job God had for me to do in jail.”
Last time he was in jail, with all the media attention, Pastor Derek was recognized, and was respected by guards and inmates alike. There were also protestors and rallies outside the jail on Derek’s behalf.
The inmates saw the protests with signs saying “Free Pastor Derek” and “Jesus Loves You”, and so the whole story was on the lips of inmates throughout the jail, and other inmates got their own people to join the rallies as well. Derek’s cellmate’s mother came and joined the rallies to free Pastor Derek.
Pastor Derek followed up with her after his release to see how she was doing. He said the entire situation was remarkable, cheering, and incredibly effective.
Derek made many friends in jail, and helped to encourage lots of people, including his cellmate, who was trying to turn over a new leaf, and had actually prayed the day before Derek showed up for someone to teach him the Bible. The next day a pastor shows up in his cell – what are the odds of that?
What remarkable stories. What they intended for evil, God is turning out for good.
This ongoing persecution of Pastor Derek is showing how absurd and biased parts of our system really are. Derek has already decided to appeal, but needs your help to do so. Can you please support him today?
This ongoing legal assault on Pastor Reimer is seen by many onlookers as pure legal and psychological warfare to silence him because he doesn’t agree with Drag Story hours being presented to children.
The fact that they want to extend his sentence and social media ban for two years (a bizarre and unprecedented punishment) is ominous and chilling. We all deserve the right to protest against things we disagree with.
The Judge whose decision was overturned (the one who found Derek not-guilty), according to Pastor Derek’s lawyer may be the single most senior judge in the Alberta Court of Justice with a sterling reputation for decades. He had largely written the law on the subject of disturbance and mischief. But even still, that wasn’t enough.
We currently live in a two-tier society where some people are “more equal” than others.
You’ll remember the famous quote from George Orwell’s book Animal Farm: “all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others”.
Pastor Derek’s appeal will be critical. This long ordeal has been instrumental in shedding light on the corrupt ideologies that pervade our society and threaten to undermine our country.
Pastor Derek is on the right track. I want to thank you for standing with him. Thanks so much for your support!

Because there is so much misinformation on this subject online ,a few months ago I made contact with the Brisbane City Library to find out the truth and the lady who I spoke with told me that the library chooses what children’s books are to be read ( no sexual content ) and the readers are all screened by the Police for their Blue Cards to be able to work with children and no child is allowed to be in the reading room without a parent present .
