11 September 2026: A bold plan to reverse the plunging birthrate by recognising the value of unpaid care has been rejected by Government in favour of incentivising more working parents of our “vanishing race”, warns the Father of the House of Representatives and North Queensland MHR of half-a-century, Bob Katter.

In addition to asking for a $75,000 payment per birth, the Federal Member for Kennedy this week asked the Treasurer in Question Time to help families crippled by the cost-of-living crisis with taxable income-splitting to boost disposable incomes for spouses raising children on a single wage by about 10 per cent on average.
But instead of acknowledging annual tax relief of about $8000-$10,000 for struggling families with a single wage-earner on $80,000-$150,000 a year – which would boost household budgets between 9-12 per cent1 – the Treasurer claimed income-splitting would “disincentivise” women’s workforce participation, leaving them “economically dependent” on men, and “cost the budget substantially” to deliver the “lion’s share” of benefits to “higher wealth” families whilst “denying” those in lower tax bands.
Mr Katter accused the Treasurer of “throwing the baby out with the bathwater” by dismissing outright the long-overdue “fairer family tax” policy with the introduction of a $75,000 payment for all new mothers “to spend as they see fit – from putting food on the table to investing in superannuation for their future”.
“Families cannot make ends meet,” Mr Katter told the Treasurer in reference to average household debt at over $300,000 or $400,000 for under-50s, with the hyper-inflated cost-of-living now crippling 25 per cent of parent couples on a single income who suffered the “appalling inequality at tax time” that leaves a stay-at-home mum and three kids struggling by on $15,000 per person, whilst double-income-no-kids (DINKS) enjoy disposable incomes of $75,000 each. “Surely, family income-splitting makes taxation fairer, whilst a $75,000 birthing payment would help arrest Australia’s plunging birthrates,” he pleaded in the Parliament.
Mr Katter said the Treasurer’s devaluing of unpaid work further betrayed all parents “who bear enormous responsibility for raising our nation’s future generations to advance Australia fair”.
“The Treasurer’s righteous virtue-signalling this week in the Parliament – supposedly on the side of women who quite reasonably want to be paid for their work – in turn infantilises mothers whose endless work for their family remains unpaid, like many carers, when the choice either way should be in women’s hands,” said Mr Katter.
“Instead, Australian mums and dads are financially penalised when only one parent is paying income tax – which is really the only productivity measure that the Treasurer truly cares about.
“But while he’s crying poor on an estimated $3 billion annual cost of income-splitting to the budget bottom line, he’s spending five times that subsidising the private childcare industry, to boast about the benefits for women in the Kennedy electorate who can be on endless waitlists or have zero local early childhood places.
“And when you tally the cost to taxpayers of about $14 billion propping up commercial childcare plus another $5 billion a year in parental leave – not to mention an estimated $20 billion in means-tested Family Tax Benefits – it puts into perspective the estimated $22 billion cost of an upfront $75,000 bonus for fewer than 300,000 births a year, to help lift Australia back up to relative post-war boomer rates.”
Projections of the compounding benefits of lifting birthrates from below 1.5 to above the 2.1 replacement rate, align with an Australian population reaching 80 million with one million births annually in a century2.
“I want 80 million people in this country so our industries can operate on economies of scale; so we’re not doomed to repeat the history of ‘a people without land seeking a land without people’,” said Mr Katter.

Another oaf playing out the BS story that women are victims in today’s Australia. No doubt it will catch a few votes from the venerable cretins, but it will also have a toxic after effect on the normies. Gaslighting and diversion galore! All in the name of good public management and fiscal competence.
Can anyone imagine 80 million in this country? In fact, there won’t be a country (rural) any longer. It would also be easier to just keep the doors open for mass immigration to get to this number pretty easily! Just let the True Blues procreate as they wish – and give them proper support.
When it comes to ‘income splitting’, nothing beats negative equity for those unfortunates whose main assets have been plundered so Dr Jim’s Treasury can get it’s split.
What a liar Dim Jim has turned out to be. He wants to maintain two income streams for the ALP communist transformation. They don’t want babies because using the government “childcare” system the failure rate is too high, they can’t read, they can’t focus, end up on drugs, whatever. They would rather import currymunchers and they have plenty to choose from, rich ones too. You can see Dim Jim is orchestrating the Chinese communist model via “capitalist-appearing” economic levers. We have already offshored the slavery to China, we have media clampdown, surveillance coming and now we have “one-child policy” enforced by the economy being crushed. We have austerity coming in via energy being shut down. And Dim Jim tries to get on board with Rockerfellas’ Feminism™, playing to a sector who are making themselves extinct along with the other women who are feminism neutral, but will end up homeless anyway under ALP strategies. A woman now can basically choose self-genocide, dysfunctional one-child, or abandon Feminism™. The mismanagement is shocking, it’s atrocious, and it’s deliberate.
More births?
Has anyone looked at the state of the world yet? What kind of world are we offering them?
Where is there peace? Which country looks after its people instead of money grabbing?
Which country doesn’t have multiple foreign military bases here, making us a target?
Has anyone looked at the cost of food and lodgings and schooling?
Has anyone dealt with the situation where mothers and children and the older generation
find themselves in? Eg., living in cars if they are ‘lucky’ or in parks before they are moved on to WHERE?
And the current political Parties and the amount of hatred expressed and the lack of humanity
puts a chill up the spine of anyone who thinks.
We have been involved in numerous wars. Adopt an orphan. Did we enable that to happen?
Take one whose legs have been blown off and endured amputation without anaesthetic.
Sorry to offend those who think that is too explicit. Truth hurts.
Various countries were happy to take orphans off the streets after WWII in order to build up
their own populations. More trauma for the children, but perhaps a help to them. Try that.
Stop wars. Mothers won’t provide cannon fodder.
For goodness sake. We are sitting under the threat of nuclear war. And not just from one place.
Multiple areas of the world.
Doesn’t anyone know that? Well no, ignore it and feel safe
Look at the results in the European elections. Look and think.
But encouraging Aussies to have more children? Let the well-paid politicians do that.
There’s a beginning. Problem solved.
What’s all the fuss? If we need more Aussies for Agenda 2030 we’ll just import them from the Third World. It’ll be easier for them to assimilate in similar conditions and they’ll feel right at home.
.
Why bother with local manufacturing when it comes cheaper from the Third World? The “economies of scale” will ensure our prosperity on the “the more, the merrier” principle. Besides, half our women will have prostate problems by then anyway.
I recently spoke about women working in the home at a BBQ recently. No-one disagreed about that women earlier days, who didn’t work for money, generally produced food & made clothing & various things at home, so the outlay of money would be significantly reduced. Of course, child care costs money too, for the ones lucky enough to assess it & sometimes more than what the stay at home parent would earn. So many skills are not taught in schools, so it’s actually a wonder what all them years in school achieve. I wish that I would have asked to learn from my grandmother how to weave. Of course, nowadays, it’s probably as easy as access to the internet for information. I know people who produce food & clothing themselves, but it’s just not as common as it once was. Living in an apartment makes it even more difficult. Maybe Bob Katter could lobby for smaller businesses to get grants if they set up in regional towns & the incentive for parents who have stayed home with children for years to be employed. It could give higher grants, since with no recent work history, it could cause difficulties in getting work. The government could save on unemployment benefits in that way. Income splitting seems fair enough. The working parent may also work more & have to pay more tax to provide for the family. I know so many who don’t want children. I know a family of 8 children who have to live in several different places & states. Their dads died & their mum is to unwell to care for them. They’re still happy enough, by the looks of it & doing well. Their upbringing was good. So, children are pretty resilient & there’s not necessarily a reason not to have them, because everything isn’t perfect. Maybe this global warming scam is another barrier for some people. Time to scrap net zero.
Most of that’s not going to matter when the AI robots enter the workforce. A lot of folks are going to be dependent on technology. What’s not to like?
