When a person causes deliberate damage to property, public, commercial or neighborhood, or deliberately damages the local park, sporting club, council property, your car or local shop, they are held accountable by law and police action is taken and can be ordered by a court to pay for the damages. So, why aren’t there mandatory laws for restoration from criminal acts?
When a criminal act causes massive damages to properties, vehicles or wherever, why aren’t restitution costs made compulsory by courts as a punishment deterrent against criminal behavior, where these costs stand for life until repaid. These costs should be commensurate to the value of the basic wage where they serve jail time at that value until the cost of the damage they caused is fully repaid.
The current system stupidly and wrongly places the cost penalty on insurance companies, who then transfer the cost to every citizen via higher premiums. The reality is all criminal damages have become a penalty upon the people who are forced to pay for the damages done — that they are innocent of causing.
Something has gone seriously and stupidly wrong with politicians allowing and approving laws that are protecting the criminals from any responsibility whatsoever. Politicians and their laws are protecting and encouraging criminal destruction of our property, there is no other way to view this.
World expert Criminologists have said for decades that leniency in sentencing is a reward to criminals, who then encouraged by lenient rewards continue their activity.

Yes as usual our politicians are finding ways to undermine and damage society and the country, they are very effective at this, and at lining their own pockets. The underpinning philosophy is socialism, I can crash my car into your house and say it was an accident, and this story will be accepted, and everyone’s vehicle insurance will carry the cost, and the registration insurance + medicare will pay for hospitalisations, all nicely socialised so I can go out and crash again. This actually happened to my defacto’s brother when I was younger, the 2nd time he killed himself, luckily all the other occupants survived. If he had to pay more for crashing he might not have killed himself. But thanks to our moron contingent in Canberra and their equivalents in the state capitals, Murphy’s law applies and they are busily making more and more horrible little laws which didn’t exist when the country was going better. The enemy is the government, it’s not Iran or whatever.
It will never happen in this nation now run by Federal & mostly State Socialist scumbags that never worked a real job and stay cemented to the taxpayer gravy train and money trough. Until crimes are made against them personally and their homes and cars destroyed or damaged by un- Australian scum, then nothing will ever change. It is common practice for US Federal Courts to order that convicted defendants pay restitution for the financial loss incurred by victims – particularly in fraud cases. Unfortunately, it appears that Australian courts rarely impose such orders.
Most are low-lifes that don’t have any $$$. Hard labour fixing/cleaning out public toilets for 6 days/wk for a year sounds appropriate…
