Smart meters health hazard
The smart meter has a chip in it for the remote reading. The flashing ‘R’ on the meter indicates that it is occurring remotely.
However, this chip can easily be removed by a technician.
A Type 4A meter can have this remote function physically disconnected and this ‘neutered’ meter is an MRAM “manually read advanced meter”
There is no flashing ‘R’.
This is still a smart meter, which gathers intensive data just the same, but does not transmit it every hour or day because the DATA-TRANSMISSION COMPONENT is disabled or preferably removed and cannot be placed back in without the express permission of the owner of the property.
The issue then comes down to the Company needing to employ people to get off their backsides and read the meter and this increases their costs.
However in the meantime they can and will send an ‘estimate’ cost based on bill averages until they send a meter reader to physically read and download the data.
Then a new ‘actual’ bill is adjusted accordingly.
This can all be done if the will is there.
While some say the smart meter can be remotely controlled for nefarious reasons, I don’t doubt anything can happen in the wrong hands.
If the Company/Government want to turn off your power (and now your water) with a water smart meter it may just be a press of a button and may be a future option targeting those naughty CBDC refusers.

Mandatory is not Law, it is a threat to make you think it is Law.
I also sent off a letter to Ergon and received the same reply as you, that was last year.
I gave scientific reasons to reject a smart meter.
I also put a NO SMART METER sign on the meter box and it is locked.
I have not heard back.
I also believe they are a fire risk as well as blasting you with pulsed EMF.
I trust nothing the govt says or does – not after co-vid.
As far as I am aware those installing `Smart’ Meters do not give you a choice in the matter. They just install them.,
We live in NSW and have Origin as our suppliers. They have made approx. four attempts to have a SMART meter installed since 2023 and each time we send them another letter, the last one adding if they bothered us again with wasting our time replying, we would cancel our account with them. Our meter box remains locked.
The following was one example of the letters that was sent:
“Please note before this matter proceeds that I have included attachments that shows quite clearly that I do not want, or my wife, this Smart Meter technology installed on this house due to serious safety issues in regard to health and privacy.
Also please note that we have been informed that to go ahead without our permission or to forcibly install this upgrade, would require malicious damage to private property.
We have included this information for you to pass on to your installation representatives before they take further steps & would ask you to note the bottom of the signage quoting:
“Any person trespassing to install a Smart meter will e held accountable to the law of our Australian Constitution Act (1900-1901) and the Privacy Act for trespassing and are liable for a $167,000 fine.”
We hope this clarifies the situation for you.”
However, now we do not get our meter read and have it “estimated” ! We say no problem…. better that than a SMART meter near out bedroom. We just pay what we think is the truer amount.
Don’t give up and let them bully you….. keep on refusing. Unfortunately the rest of our street is “installed” and people totally unaware of the consequences. We feel proud to still be “holding out” !!

I had to put a padlock on my meter box to stop them replacing my old fashioned meter, as they insisted on coming to replace it.
I had already stopped a technician from replacing it once before, but he stopped at my request.
They will try anything as they want you to be frequented to death, and they also threatened to turn off my power if I had a Smart Meter, remotely. So it is about control and charging you at their highest rate possible as often as possible….that is every time they don’t have enough supply for demand, or have high demand.
My original contract ran out so it is on auto-charging, and so I notified them I will only pay them what I think it is worth, and give them $20-50 when they threaten to cut it off, and that stops the process for a while.

The Ombudsman Office is a part of the Corporate Support Structure and will not give you any satisfaction.
I have a copy of the laws from when I had solar installed, and it clearly states that they cannot force you to have a Smart Meter, or to have your meters replaced, which they will claim that they are faulty, when they are not.
Trespass is a serious offence under Royal Assent Law which is higher than any parliamentary Laws, especially since this corporate government, fake that it is, makes rules, not laws, as it is only a corporation under corporate fake Admiralty Law. We have no Monarch since 1901, and so there is no one to sign any laws into authority.

As your property is part of a Retailer Led Rollout meter exchange you do have the option to opt out of the new digital meter.
We have noted against your account your request to Opt-Out and cancelled the meter replacement request.
Please note, it is a Government requirement that all new and replacement meters in Queensland must be digital. Over time, we’ll swap out standard meters for digital meters when required – for example, if a meter is found to be faulty or has come to the end of its asset life. Meters exchanged for these reasons cannot be opted out of. Eventually all meters will be replaced with digital meters.

I’m not totally sure if it answers your question (and mine) about eventual compulsion being true, but this last sentence at least IMPLIES that it will eventually be true in QLD:

You can go and find an electrician nad remove the smart meter and fit an analogue on, if you can find one.
I was present when this was done at a premises in Melbourne where the lady of the house immediately succumbed ro radiation sickness once the SM cranked up.
There is no compulsion to have one, as the PowerCor suits that came to my public housing block told me and another tenant that there was no requirement to have one.
The cannot be mandatory as there is no valid law to say they are.
I got solar panels on the roof as soon as the price dropped and the meter was analog ( rotor ) so it went backwards if I wasn’t using the power, resulting in very small bills, and the panels paid themselves off in about 3 years, something the electric companies are obviously losing dollars on.
Later on my new house got the smart meter and they said it’s only a pulse like a phone sending a text every 5 minutes or whatever, but it seems like it’s modifying the amperage, like the cooking range seems to run hotter sometimes when they have too much solar power to try to burn off. I am more worried about wifi at close range, the wifi routers don’t have an intensity knob, if you have one near your head for a long time you may end up with a very interesting headache that feels like a square wave instead of a sine wave, is the only way I can explain it, and it goes away within minutes when you turn the wifi off.

I’m in NSW and have had 2 battles with my supplier who want to install a smart meter. On the first I said, ‘thanks but no thanks’. That was it.
The last occasion, about a year ? later, they wrote saying they were going to ‘update’ & improve my electricity and gave a date & time for this to occur, with just a week or so notice. It wasn’t until I read through to the end where, in small print it mentioned a smart meter… It was a deliberate attempt to obfuscate & mislead.
They made it very difficult to make contact with anyone who could talk about smart meters but I persevered and eventually spoke to a very condescending, but well briefed individual, who tried to infer it was compulsory. When I indicated that I would physically prevent anyone from entering my premises & throw them out if they did so, he said that under law, the provider or its agent had a legal right to enter.
I responded that I’d turf them out anyway, call the police and if necessary test it in court, and he suddenly demurred and said he would ‘defer’ my application. “For how long?” I asked. He said that it could be weeks or months, but that the Govt had decreed that smart meters were to be installed all over Australia and it was just a matter of time.
