Queensland’s Path to Treaty process could face a tough road ahead after the state’s LNP suddenly withdrew its support, legal experts say.
The historic legislation was hailed as a victory for First Nations people when it passed with bipartisan support five months ago.
Earlier this week, the state’s opposition leader David Crisafulli backflipped on his support of the laws, saying it was not the right way forward following the Voice to Parliament referendum. “I’ve seen just how divisive the last six months has been for the country … and I just don’t want to go through that again,” he said.
Barrister and former Acting Northern Territory Treaty Commissioner Tony McAvoy SC said the treaty process did not legally need bipartisan support to proceed. “Legislation is preferable to establish the procedures and parameters, but not essential,” the Wirdi man said.”Treaties are agreements. They can be given the force of law in legislation, but even without legislation they are usually enforceable in the courts.”
Queensland voted overwhelming against the Voice. The state’s looming election, in Oct 2024, could be a key turning point for the treaty process.
“If the LNP goes to the election committed to abandoning the process, and the ALP goes to the election committed to continuing the process, there’ll be a clear difference between the two major parties,” he said.

Elections will be held in March to determine the make-up of the Voice, with the state’s First Nations population eligible to vote for six men and six women. Overall, 46 people will be elected, and then 12 of those will form the Voice and be able to speak at the second reading stage of any legislation before the SA parliament.

“Stress leave” eh. How about permanent unpaid stress leave to recoup some of the millions of dollars blown on their miserably failed Voice fiasco.
Now in socialist Premier Comrade Ms. Allen’s Victoria, they’re hell-bent on implementing “treaty” as they work through the “hurt and anger”.
Leaders say First Nations people know treaty is the way forward, but the road just got a lot bumpier.

In one ultra-shocking day Queenslanders have had verified the truth, that their Premier is barking mad. Queenslanders will pay for thousands of public servants to have a five day holiday to compensate for their being racist and stupid enough to vote yes for racial rights over democracy.
However, just in case anyone is gullible enough to think poor mad Palaszczuk was sadly misguided by twisted ideals and principles, we find this was pure political opportunism. Being a typical ALP dumbarse, she thought the vast majority of voters would say “Yes” in the referendum, and that she would ride triumphantly into the next election on a chariot of apartheid and media lies. This is, of course, the central ALP platform.
Now realising her catastrophic error, and with every Labor politician glaring at her with daggers drawn, for jeopardising their glorious ‘snouts in the trough’ regime; and now nudged towards reality by the Nationals, she has backpedaled on the treaty. As I said, pure political opportunism. No ideas or principles anywhere to be seen.
This crazed deceiver of Queenslanders has to go, along with her equally loony MLAs. Funny thing. This is how Palaszczuk came to be leader in the first place. She was the last Labor politician left standing when the entire party wass massacred in the Queensland state elections. She only survived because she was so insignificant nobody thought to kick her into the political abyss. She won’t be overlooked next time.
We can expect every public servant who voted No will take advantage of this stress leave on full pay so get ready for a Qld Government shutdown .
