PEOPLE First Party leader and former senator Gerard Rennick has a close eye on the planned $32 billion Western Downs Digital Park artificial intelligence development near Dalby and has called for more transparency around the project.
Rennick is a former resident of Chinchilla, 55 minutes northwest of Dalby, and has noted that the new AI facility will rely on rain water harvesting to source its water supply of up to 21,000 litres a day. Toowoomba is an hour from Dalby.
He is not opposing the facility, and says it’s preposterous that Chris “Blackout” Bowen is insisting that data centres be powered by renewables rather than coal and points out that the nearby Kogan Creek coal fired power station has a vacant pad for another turbine and is sitting on 400 million tonnes of coal.
“Why would anyone destroy valuable farmland with renewables? It’s just madness. The obsession with renewables needs to end,” he says.
“People First will abolish all subsidies for renewables and require environmental bonds to paid on existing sites.”
On the water use issue, he said that as someone who has watched farmers having to give up their irrigation licences to “save the environment” how is it that a foreign owned company is going to be allowed to ‘harvest’ water but farmers can’t.
“This is a classic example of one rule for wealthy foreigners and another one hard working Australians. There had better be a lot more transparency around exactly how much water this data centre is going to harvest and what impact will it have on downstream communities like my hometown of Chinchilla.”
He urged people wishing to protect both the environment and farmland sign up to http://PeopleFirstParty.au.
A development application prepared for construction company Zerra DC has been lodged for the Western Downs Digital Park. The Singapore-based company develops and operates massive, high-capacity data centre campuses across the Asia-Pacific region.
The site is at 1933 Dalby–Kogan Road, Kogan (35 km from Dalby), and once constructed, it will be considered one of Australia’s largest data centres, although technically, it is not a data centre but an AI facility or factory.
Data centres act as digital warehouses running enterprise applications, hosting websites, managing databases, and handle general cloud storage with relatively small workforces, whereas the Dalby AI facility expects an ongoing workforce of some 1400.
Data centres rely heavily on CPUs (Central Processing Units), which are general-purpose processors designed to handle diverse, sequential workloads one step at a time.
An AI centre functions as an intelligence generator and is built specifically for the heavy lifting of the AI lifecycle, such as training massive large language models, fine-tuning, and running high-volume inference.
The AI centre relies heavily on GPUs (Graphics Processing Units), TPUs, and specialized AI accelerators – chips that excel at massive parallel processing, allowing millions of calculations to happen simultaneously.
The Dalby facility will have an on-site battery-backed power conditioning system to support electricity requirements, which the project backers say will strengthen the local power network.
The site’s proximity to existing energy infrastructure is identified as a key factor in its suitability for the development.

All these centuries of mankind improving his intelligence and memory through study and education and now “big money” wants it passed over to a machine, named AI. That is how far education has failed humanity. The more we improve ourselves the more certain beings want to send us backward in the cause of money making. The term for that is GREED. How many people will be unemployed because of this fad? Multi millions and yet those pushing this idea are not concerned.
There is not enough wealth (supposedly) to provide the essentials of life to many on this planet, yet billions can be gambled on this venture via making huge loans (printed money).
I’m concerned that Rennick thinks Ai Data Centres are safe and all above-aboard! Just a little concern he ha about the water. Well, I’ve a mighty BIG concern and water is the lat at the present. These centtres are 100% surveillance centrew. They’ll be watching every move you make, every item down to the grain of rice you’ve bought in the past year, who you talk or associate with etc. Then, based on what is ai’s perception of you, it will stop you buying food, it will stop you going anywhere, – even walking about, it stop you associating or talking to whoever it considers is a “terrorist”, stop you purchasing fuel, clothes, furniture, house etc. It can ensure you have nowhere you can go or put food into yur mouth and watch you die slowly and painfully by yourself! The role of AI is to ensure separation of the human bodies so that they can be controlled until they pass from this realm. Yeah, I think we ALL have a much bigger issue than water.
Why, with Technology advanced to the stage it is here in Australia (Global Distillation Technologies GDTH20) are Data Centres allowed to take potable water needed for Agriculture, Drinking and Environmental purposes?. The solution is to recycle Sewage!!!. Data Centres are the tip of the iceberg, no-one is talking about. Coming are Green Steel/Iron, Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia/Urea!!!.
The planned Water Desalination plants required for these industries, will process over 150 Million Metric Tons of Desalinated Water, it takes 2 – 2.5 litres of Saltwater to make 1 litre of potable water, and then the additional polishing required to get the standard of water needed is very energy intensive, Madness!!!
That means 300 – 375 Million Tons of toxic concentrated Brine polluting our marine environment around Australia’s Coastline, so much for the fishing industry!!! I recall the recent Hypoxic event in Adelaide that trashed the South Australian fishing Industry!!!
And why are the peoples Representatives bowing to the international owners, again… AND Why do we, allegedly need all these Data Centers AI factories they seem to be all of a sudden popping up like mushrooms.. just not at all healthy. Why is their to regulatory framework in place before these commercial structures are being presented to councils? AND WHY are local councils even permitted to give the permits for these monsters, in several cases ignoring 10’s of thousand of locals objections???? WHY, so many legitimate questions and our MP”s all silent, OR worse being photographed with the Singapore owners???? How do we, the people stop this avalanche???? And WHY are they, MP’s not listening to the owners of some of the biggest AI businesses and their long term warnings about the AI Machine that will no longer take instructions from Humans????
Machines don’t need to use any water, they can use cooling systems as simple as an old style car radiatior which is pressurised so the water boils at about 120 degrees or more so it can still cool off even in ambient temperatures like 50 degrees. Just running a river through it is a cheap option, they should be using coolant and recirculating it like anyone else. Those old volkswagens and some motorbikes use an oil cooler, so the data centres should back off the water or explain why not.
I don’t even believe in AI, it’s just going to create a lot of random mush no matter how much you teach it, it will never be human, it will always be crap, at least in my lifetime. The capital raisers are spruiking it and the lawyers are talking it down, because the lawyers know their jobs will be gone first.
Data Centres – be careful what you wish for.
What if they were for something far more sinister.
Why the hurry?
Where else do you ‘burn’ or ‘bury’ the bodies?
500 million population is the goal – or maybe even that is too much for them….
Fool us once, but fool us twice?
All aboard the train….?

The simplist cure for the government disease of destroying Australian lands and economies is to immediately stop the supply of air to the lungs of those who vote this rot into place.
I am amazed to think these infiltrations of offshore globalism are still here governing our once great country.
If they could no longer breathe, they could not vote these puppet legislations into being.
If they could not breathe, we would have a real non-ROGUE government in place.
All they are designed to do is process the government SPYING on us…nothing more.
Why is Rennick not promoting this:
https://www.deployable.energy/
Headed by an Aussie, with billions in expressions of interest and actual orders.
And why is Rennick not invoking Section 100 of the Constitution that guarantees everyone’s right to fair use of the water for irrigation and conservation, conservation, in that sense meaning storage.
Rennick’s mindset still seems to be in the legal rather than Lawful realm that all the other Senators are.
The Lawful is the Constitution, which is the applicable and enforceable contract between the people and the government of the day, and which is the oft-referred to Law of the Land.
