Shock and horror .... samples of "ïllegal" tobacco posted by the WA ABC.
A close-up of a person holding a cigarette, with smoke wafting from the tip, showcasing an act of smoking.
Smoking has health hazards but also possible health benefits from nicotine.

WESTERN Australia’s pathetic ABC journalists are whining and crying over the fact that Fremantle cafes are selling tobacco under the counter.

Other media has reported that about half of the state’s corner stores are selling “illegal tobacco”. The reason is obvious: government bureaucrats have taxed tobacco to ridiculous levels to the point where it is no longer affordable and retailers are prepared to risk prosecution by selling black market products.

The ABC journalists apparently think we the public should be anxious and alarmed by the fact that the government is losing revenue because of this. We can assure the ABC that the public, especially smokers, do not give a solitary crap.

“So how did illegal tobacco take over what was once an attractive cafe and restaurant strip?” the journalists ask.

They apparently don’t understand that the national illegal tobacco trade is a direct result of nanny state bureaucrats and NGO-types trying to tax tobacco out of existence, because it’s allegedly a noble “health objective” – just like mRNA vaccines.

The ABC and WA health authorities have chosen to ignore the fact that nicotine actually has health benefits. This is confirmed in a study published in the US National Library of Medicine. The study does not support smoking but states “Yet nicotine in its pure form has the potential to be a valuable pharmaceutical agent”.

The abstract of the study explains: “Nicotine fairly specifically binds to the cholinergic nicotinic gating site on cationic ion channels in receptors throughout the body. This action stimulates the release of a variety of neurotransmitters including especially catecholamines and serotonin.

“When chronically taken, nicotine may result in: (1) positive reinforcement, (2) negative reinforcement, (3) reduction of body weight, (4) enhancement of performance, and protection against; (5) Parkinson’s disease (6) Tourette’s disease (7) Alzheimers disease, (8) ulcerative colitis and (9) sleep apnea.”

So while exposure to nicotine from smoking often creates addiction and exposes the smoker to carcinogenic materials, the ill effects are not guaranteed and life experience shows that many smokers have lived long lives – and the beneficial effects of nicotine exposure may well have been a factor.

But smoking itself can be avoided through the use of nicotine patches, that are sold at chemist outlets as “fix” for avoiding the habit of lighting up.

Whatever the dangers and benefits of smoking, the substance does not deserve to be targeted as an evil blight on society by bureaucrats and organisations like the Australian Council on Smoking and Health (ACOSH).

Like the good little nanny state advocates they are, the ABC reminds us that WA’s health department “is responsible for issuing fines for the distribution of illegal tobacco through undertaking compliance, monitoring and carrying out investigations”.

“It is therefore the responsibility of the health minister, Meredith Hammat, to introduce the laws to parliament,” they advise.

“When questioned on the issue at press conferences, Ms Hammath failed to offer any details on what the legislation will look like or when it will be ready,” the ABC added. Get the hint minister? We’re the ABC and our job is to enforce the nanny state. Got it?

14 thought on “ABC stir up pathetic nanny state outrage over WA tobacco sales”
  1. Nicotine is protective. During the covid scam they warned that smokers would be the first to die.. the opposite happened, they did not succumb. Dr Ardis has videos about nicotine. Tobacco has been in use for millennia and there are nicotine receptors all over the body, they are there for a reason.

I am happy about the illegal trade because I got off the poisoned tailor made fags a couple of years ago and smoke natural tobacco now.. 100g for $15,

And of course its always the excuse by the medical industry regarding health issues.. well the cause must be smoking. Another one they use is genetics. In reality its because they have no idea of how to treat illness or their patients.. they are just drug pushers and work for Big Pharma.

Its not about the illegal trade, its because the government is losing money.. that’s what it is always about. Its why housing prices are so high and they don’t care because they are laughing all the way to the bank with the high cost of stamp duty on sales.

Anyone who thinks the government cares about your welfare is delusional.

  2. Peter Senior if you’ve stopped smoking you don’t need the patches.

As correctly stated in this article and in the comments, nicotine isn’t addictive.

It’s all about culling natural therapy and guess who makes the patches?

  3. Puffin’ Billy you’re being ripped off. Where I live it’s $9 for a packet of 20 and $20 for 100g.

  4. While this article is correct about nicotine, it ignores the fact long term smoking causes breathing issues. If you’ve ever stood in front of an open fire and breathed in the smoke, you know how and why.

Nothing the government says or does can be trusted, nicotine is just another example. So too is vapes. As a long term vaper I can say with absolute authority, vaping proper ingredients (not artificial flavors) is far less dangerous than smoking a tobacco (or any other) bush.

An illegal packet of 20 cigarettes costs $9 where I live and a legal packet is $68.

Before the government banned vapes, a reasonable quality vape cost around $20 on line and the liquids about 10c per week.

Now, a vape costs over $250 plus a visit to the doctor. Chemists can legally sell vapes but I don’t know of any that do.

You don’t eat artificial colours and flavors for health reasons so you sure as hell don’t vape them.

  5. I bought some gummy lolly vitamins for my grandchildren and found that they contain nicotine. I looked at all my adult vitamins and they ALL contain nicotine. If it is dangerous as experts say why are these same pharmaceutical experts not in gaol? A doctor in our family revealed that Nicotine is taught at university as being a cure for the diseases in the article above BUT they are warned never to reveal this to the public as it may encourage smoking. There is more lung cancer in non-smokers than smokers according to worldwide statistical analysis. The anti-nicotine hysteria is a fabricated hoax purely for revenue.

  6. The government preferred pre-rolled cigarettes are full of additives which help to make people sick. Why shouldn’t people grow organic tobacco if they want to. Why shouldn’t they sell chop-chop if they want to. Who cares what the health department thinks, they are the most deliberately moronic bunch of criminals in the entire government. If you always took the opposite of their advice you would be better off. They are the enemy of the average person, starting from birth and continuing to death. Their idiot regulator the TGA is just a sales dept for patent medicines. Their lies are willingly spread by the crooked ABC-TV. I smoked cigarettes when I was teenage but not interested now. In Sweden they use “snus”, it’s like a type of chewing tobacco, presumably to stop them catching cold and flu. Canberra is a real disease on this country.

  7. I smoke. If I bought the tobacco at the supermarket/tobacconist I’d pay just over $300 a fortnight. I’d end up short too before the end of the fortnight I’d bet.

If I visited one of the many illegal tobacco sellers I can get branded packets from overseas, without all the gory pictures and health warnings, for $15-20$. Similar packs/brands cost over $40 in the supermarket/tobacconist.

I might have found some decent tobacco to buy for $60 a fortnight (100grams). Why would I pay over $400 for the same amount of the legal taxed up the arse variety?

They created the market, now they cry about it. Too late, they are putting the tobacconists who don’t sell the black market stuff out of business. I just go there for filters and papers now. The supermarkets sell other stuff.

  8. Nicotine to the rescue! Cancer and more ….. – Bio-Sil South Africa

    https://biosil.co.za/nicotine-to-the-rescue-cancer-and-more/

-Harvard’s 2015 study showed nicotine’s lack of addictiveness compared to other
substances, leading to a request for tobacco companies’ research papers to understand how they made products addictive.

12:12 Nicotine is not the addictive chemical in tobacco products; a man-made chemical called Pines has been added since 1970 to make them addictive, as revealed in 1970s tobacco industry documents.

-The misconception of nicotine being addictive is debunked, highlighting the
deliberate addition of Pines by the tobacco industry to increase product addiction since the 1970s.

-Discussion on the presence of nicotine in various plants like eggplants, tomatoes,
bell peppers, and potatoes, shedding light on nicotine as a natural nutrient in plants.

-Exploration of the FDA’s approval of 13 different perazine ingredients, not nicotine, to be added to tobacco products, emphasizing the role of Pines in addiction.

  9. Nicotine Is Not Addictive.

Current research is revealing the distinct health benefits of the nutrient nicotine (as found in food and also in nicotine patches). And now we know that nicotine is an incredibly safe compound, and it was NEVER addictive. Don’t believe me? The FDA still allows the tobacco industry to add 599 different man-made chemicals to the nicotine in tobacco products, causing the known damage from cigarettes and other tobacco products. It is not the nicotine that causes harm………….

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic, and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” ~Joseph Goebbles

Special Report – Did you know? Every cigarette contains half a teaspoonful of sugar!
    Also:

“Sugars are added to cigarettes as they are known to turn into aldehydes during combustion. Acetaldehyde is believed to increase the addictive properties of nicotine.”

  10. What if the ABC and its legions of top-notch journos and auto-cue readers have decided to treat health as real issue worth investigating?
This week they start down low with illegal tobacco sales.
Next week, they might stay with a similar product, eg vapes, and expose the graphene oxide nano-particles that are going to lead to a massive spike in lung cancer within a decade.
The following week, some decide of the careerists to put their big-boy pants on and tackle the Operation Warped Speed bio-weapon roll out and how to end the democide and how to cancel the build-out of mRNA factories in Aus. /sarc
