US President Donald Trump has requested the National Security Council be prepared in the situation room when he returns to Washington DC tonight from the G7 meeting a day early.
This comes after he posted on Truth Social that everyone should evacuate Tehran immediately. Al Jazeerah reported that Trump might be considering the US joining in an attack on Iran, but there was no clear answer yet.
Iranians appear to have received Trump’s message, and are fleeing Tehran in their thousands, with car convoys stretching many kilometres.
Iran also appeared to have launched a last-ditch missile attack on Israel early Tuesday Middle Eastern time, but has lost control of its own airspace as Israeli jets and drones fly sorties over Tehran, hitting strategic targets such as power infrastructure. Video posted on X showed a major Israeli attack in progress over Tehran.
One independent news source reported that the Israeli Air Force was now flying its Eitan long range surveillance drones over Tehran, and “many of the Iranian regime officials were hiding in their homes fearing to exit as they believe these drones will hunt them.
IDF footage also showed an Israeli airstrike on the Iranian nuclear program HQ in Tehran.
According to one Iranian expatriate who posted on X, there are some 9 million Iranians living outside of Iran – about 10% of the population – who had fled the Islamic Shia regime. She said there were no demonstrations by these Iranians against Israel or the US because they were “not a bunch of savage, inbred jihadi terrorist sympathisers”.
Another post on X showed what appeared to be an Iranian woman discarding her hijab in some sort of protest. When this took place, however, is not known.
Meanwhile an Iranian Embassy official angrily attacked a British journalist for suggesting that Israel was not attacking civilian targets.
The official said an Israeli attack on a large apartment building to take out several Iranian Army commanders, killed 60 people including 20 children.
The official denied reports that Iran was not at the negotiating table with the US, and said Trump conspired with Netanyahu to flip his position on uranium enrichment.
