Media beat-up about fertiliser too old to detonate gives the possible “blowing up of a synagogue” little credibility except to make a false case for the uniparty’s hate speech laws.
Director general of Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) Mike Burgess would not be drawn on questions from Senator Gerard Rennick about ammonium nitrate fertiliser recently found in a caravan in Sydney and if it was intended to be used as a bomb.
While this general fertiliser is used in mines for explosive the fact it is 40 years old as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald gave the media beat-up little credibility. No detonators were found and being so old and hygroscopic the chemical’s explosive ability was around nil according to chemical engineer Alexander Stewart.
“Ammonium nitrate is almost impossible to detonate by itself, so it is very safe to store, and it is very hygroscopic,” Mr Stewart said.
“The mixture of NH4NO3 and fuel is very difficult to detonate, and therefore it can be safely pumped as a slurry and transported in drums or even in tanker truckloads.
“It is the main explosive used in the open-cut coal mines of the Hunter Valley.”

Apologies to Bob, “Squeaky” reference was meant for Joe Bogan.
Am sure Bob worked that typo error out.
Good health to all.

Not sure who the original quote came from (it has been Fact-checked many times now, so who really knows) – very true though.
Good health to all,

Crikey, even with a proper mixing of quality ingredients and a significant detonator an ANFO charge is a LOW VELOCITY shock wave. It’s greatest use is expanding gas, like burying it under an old tree stump to push it out of the ground. – More hysteria from the lying MSM.
All staged for political purposes.. See Jimmy Dore re incident in Miami
Sometimes I wish we had the means to prohibit the media shock jocks and fake propagandists with vested interests from plying their filthy, scaremongering trade with total impunity.
Stupid red tape achieves nothing.
(AuntieEt) Damn straight Ed, damn straight. It was never volitile the way it was
Oh for fck’s sake! When the bs news of this first broke… The man that had a caravan full of volitile explosives?, bs bs bs, explosives? it was never going to blow the FckUp with what he had. Safe storage, instead of willy nilly putting it out to pasture, or dealing with it in an unsafe manner, or perhaps he was keeping it safe for a rainy day. I was a shotfirer in my younger years, blew great big fckn holes in the earth, craters!. Commentators that may choose to waffle on about the “chemical compostions” & reactions & blah blah blah, wtf would you know? You know jack shit! When I was a youngin in the desert we all knew what those amphro beads&diesel would do for your lawn, you beaut fertilizer! & all us kids knew how much fun it was to get your hands on a stick of gelignite, fckn boom! Shit we had a hell of a lot of adrenlin fun with just a little stick, lucky we lived in the sticks or we’d be on the bs news too! & Mum&Dad would have been dragged through the courts these days, for not watching their kids that were many miles away, climbing hills & exploring caves & just having some fun in the outback, nah today they would have dragged our folks through the courts instead of either Mum or Dad whooping our arses. Cracker night faded into the dark depths of boredom compared to a stick of the geli & the arse whooping was always worth it. Some mongrel obviously dobbed the fella in & there was a big hype of what it could of been, another something over nothing, wonder what shit the govt pulled while idiots were freaking out about what sedate shit some man had in a caravan. I see it as, he was keeping it safe.
AuntieEt, still alive & pissed at how the world has turned into a bunch of softcocks

The police who made this discovery, the owners of the property, the Marxist PCs who interpreted it as an anti-semitic hate crime in the making and (of course) the media all collaborated in this event which was concocted as an operating platform to screw Australia down harder with hate speech laws.
Needs to be mixed with a catalyst before exploding. Editor
For educational purposes, folks, Ammonium Nitrate commonly used as a fertiliser can also function as an Oxidising Agent in a chemical reaction.
What this means is that, under the right conditions the chemical can decompose and release Oxygen as a byproduct. In the intimate presence of suitable fuel, this might then cause rapid combustion or an explosion.
However, this isn’t easy to accomplish with Ammonium Nitrate.
If you take Ammonium Nitrate and just heat it, below around 300°C it will decompose into Nitrous Oxide (N₂O) and Water (H₂O). Of no particular consequence.
However, if rapidly heated above 300°C and/or subject to sufficient shock from a detonation, Ammonium Nitrate can decompose into Nitrogen (N₂), Oxygen (O₂) and Water (H₂O). If mixed with a suitable fuel it can thereby function as the Oxidising Agent in an explosive.
This is why Ammonium Nitrate, even when mixed with combustible fuel in an explosive compound, is generally very safe to mix, store and transport. It requires a substantial percussive shock to cause detonation.
Compare this to Potassium Nitrate (commonly known as Saltpeter) is another chemical fertiliser which has traditionally been used as the Oxidising Agent in gunpowder. Potassium Nitrate readily produces Oxygen from the application of heat, which is why (for example) gunpowder will ignite from just about any trivial flame source or even focused sunlight, and also why it can burn underwater or otherwise without any air.
Needless to say, explosives can be dangerous and cause a lot of damage, so most people should avoid tampering with combinations of these materials in any substantial quantity unless they have legitimate reasons to be doing so.
FWIW, I think it’s a crying shame that general access to fireworks has been prohibited in just about every Australian jurisdiction apart from Canberra (of course). One rule for us, and another for the ruling classes in their secluded priveleged enclave. Cracker night used to be a lot of fun for all the kiddies.

What a Richard- Cyanide is safely transported by trucks and tankers too. But a fifth of a gram (if ingested) is lethal.
ANFO (Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil) is safe to transport too, but simple gelignite makes it go bang big time- Port at Pittsburgh knows all about it.
