The Labor Member for Cook, Cynthia Lui of Yam Island, is a typical, raging Labor hypocrite claiming the ALP won’t sell public assets when she has been touring the Torres Strait with the Chinese Consul offering him whatever land China wants to buy.
How does Cynthia hold her head up among her peers in the Torres Strait?
Traditional owners and elders not influenced by China’s treasure chest of bribes have complained bitterly to Cairns News about Ms Lui and her Chinese contacts.
This is not the first time she has attempted to dud her fellow islanders.
Three years ago Ms Lui and her father, Getano Lui allegedly tried to get the Chinese fishing fleet into the Torres Strait by bringing so-called Chinese fishermen from Daru, who, according to locals had a military aura about them, to set up shop on the quiet on Yam Island, Cynthia’s home base.
Locals took offence and set Bob Katter onto them. The fishermen soon disappeared.
Now this time around it has become official with Ms Lui escorting the China Consul Dr Ruan Zongze, introducing his entourage to various island councils and traditional owners with the view of massive investments in new infrastructure such as a sea port on Hammond Island, and a large-scale fuel depot on Goodes Island.
The Chinese also expressed interest in acquiring Horn Island International Airport.
Chairman of Kaurareg Native Title Aboriginal Corporation, Mr Eliza Wasaga of Horn Island was troubled that locals claiming to represent his corporation actually did not and were not acting on behalf of the organisation when dealing with the Chinese representatives.
Mr Wasaga lambasted Cynthia Lui and Ned David Chairman of GBK (Gur A Baradharaw Kod Torres Strait Sea and Land Council Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal Corporation) for “working behind closed doors with the Chinese.”
Member for Kennedy Bob Katter said he had sent an urgent query to the Home Affairs Minister asking what the federal government intends to do about the current Chinese incursion.
Ms Lui has thrown her hat into the state election morass which will be held later this month. She is vying for a third term.
