After eight years in the political wilderness, the Country Liberal Party (CLP) has been delivered to government with a resounding landslide victory in the Northern Territory election.
By the end of Saturday night’s count, the ABC had predicted the CLP winning 15 seats across the jurisdiction, including electorates that had been Territory Labor strongholds for decades in Darwin’s northern suburbs.
It marks a huge turnaround in the CLP’s fortunes, after they were decimated to just two seats in an electoral wipe-out in 2016.
Since then, the party has been steadily rebuilt under the leadership of Lia Finocchiaro, a born-and-bred territory woman and former lawyer who will become the NT’s 14th chief minister.
The CLP ran hard on a campaign promising to stamp out crime and “restore the territory lifestyle” after a long period of high crime rates and a flatlining economy under Labor, with the party amassing more than $11 billion in debt.
Voters have delivered substantial victories to the CLP in seats across the Darwin city, suburbs and rural area, as well as Palmerston, Alice Springs, Katherine and the Barkly in the territory outback.
On Saturday night, Ms Finocchiaro described the win as “an honour and a privilege”.
“We’ve heard loud and clear that territorians want change, and the work starts [today] to deliver that,” she said.
“I will meet with the police commissioner [today] to make sure we get on top of our law and order and crime issues.
“I want to thank every single Territorian who believes the territory can be better, and we will deliver a better territory for them.”
The election has also seen a fierce rejection of Labor and its former cabinet, including the loss of its outgoing chief minister Eva Lawler, in her Palmerston seat of Drysdale.
“It has been an absolute privilege to be your chief minister,” Ms Lawler said in her concession speech last night.
“I am proud of the hard fight that we have fought this campaign.”
At the end of last night’s count, Labor had held onto just four seats, all in the NT bush – Selena Uibo in Arnhem, Dheran Young in Daly, Manuel Brown in Arafura and Chansey Paech in Gwoja.
The seat of Nightcliff, previously the safest in the territory and held by former chief minister Natasha Fyles, was by the end of Saturday night too close to call.
Other key predicted Labor losses include the party’s former police minister Brent Potter, environment minister Kate Worden and education and mining minister Mark Monaghan.
By the time of the election, Labor was onto its third chief minister in three years, and had for a long period struggled to prove to the electorate that it was in control of the territory’s finances and social issues.

Labor didn’t only lose votes to the CLP – it was also punished for its treatment of environmental issues, such as its pursuit of fracking and controversial gas projects, and as of late last night it looked likely of losing at least one seat to the Greens, in Fannie Bay.
A Greens victory by former Darwin City council candidate Suki Dorras-Walker looms as historic for the territory, as it would mark the first ever win for the Greens in NT Parliament.

Did you know that it is unethical to trial drugs/vaccines on pregnant women? At least that was what I was told by the authorities in 2010 when I asked for the evidence proving that it was safe for pregnant women to use vaccines. Consequently, the government did not provide any evidence of safety and I was informed by the head of the WA Health Department, that it ‘would be unethical to prevent anyone from receiving a vaccine’. Really?
In other words, it is not unethical to claim that a vaccine is ‘safe and effective’ without providing any evidence to support this claim. I call that an unmonitored experiment.

This campaign is based on the knowledge that vaccines, (a category of drugs), are not proven safe by using true inert saline placebos.
Conscientious objection to vaccination was removed in 2016 in Australia, when the Liberal government brought in a policy called ‘No Jab No Pay No Play’ in the Social Services department – not the Health Department.
This is a coercive vaccination policy that was linked to children being required to use 12+ vaccines before they were considered ‘vaccinated’. (Did the Murdoch media’s, News Corp, explain this in 2016 when they promoted the policy to you?)
Childcare welfare benefits and childcare places are withheld if a child does not receive all 12 vaccines ~ 24 doses of which are given in the first 12 months of life. Scott Morrison was the Minister for Social Services, who brought in this policy (signed off by Christian Porter in November 2015), and they called it ‘Choices for Families’ as they removed a parents choice in the number of vaccines they use in their child; a policy that should be dependent upon family genetics. Australia’s COVID-19 quarantine camps are drawing global attention this week as videos and reports expose what appears to be the strictest pandemic restrictions in the world.
In one hidden camera video, Hayley Hodgson, a woman who was forcefully taken from her home and sent to a 14-day quarantine at the so-called Centre for National Resilience in Howard Springs, Northern Territory, captures what appear to be the quarantine camp’s guards warning her to “obey the rules” or face a $5,000 fine.
“So this, I’m going to give you a warning, yeah? This is an official warning that you have to stay on your balcony and obey the rules while you’re here,” said the guard, who is dressed from head to toe in personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, a mask and gloves.
Hodgson interjects and asks if she is allowed to go to the laundry.
“You’re allowed to go to the laundry, but you’ve got to wear your mask,” the guard responds.
The guard adds that she is not allowed to go by a fence that is near her balcony. Hodgson points out that the rule “makes no sense” and points to a balcony across from her own that is right next to the fence.
“Yeah, but you can’t leave your balcony to go to the fence to talk to somebody else. That’s just obvious,” he says. “Again, it doesn’t have to make sense. There has to be lines everywhere drawn, yeah? And one of the lines is you cannot leave your balcony and you cannot go to someone else.”
The guard says the area Hodgson is in is “much more highly infectious,” to which Hodgson says, “highly infectious when all of us people are negative.”
“So far,” the guard responds, acknowledging that the group of people in quarantine tested negative for COVID-19. “The risk is still very high.”
Hodgson later appeared on the UnHerd podcast where she said she was sent to the quarantine camp after being exposed to someone who was COVID-19 positive. While at the camp, she was tested three times and was never positive for COVID herself. She said the guards threatened her with fines and an extended stay in the quarantine camp if she broke any rules.
On Tuesday, Australian police arrested three people who escaped the Howard Springs quarantine camp in the middle of the night, BBC News reported.
Police said the group had to scale a fence to leave the facility despite having tested negative for COVID the day before.
It is unclear if the escapees were locals or returning travelers.
In a similar incident, a 27-year-old man scaled the fence and fled the facility last Friday. He was later arrested and tested negative for the virus.
In late November, an Aboriginal elder posted a video on Facebook warning that dozens of Indigenous Australians were being forcibly taken from their towns by the Australian military and transported to a quarantine camp against their will, as reported by the Daily Mail.

I have lived many decades…I remember WW2 well…and all the years since.We have had Labor state Premiers for many years ..now the CLP has won the NT by a vast majority. Congratulations to the Party…now we might see some positive action taken on Alice Springs and other crime areas.
I’m predicting that as each state election takes place, there will be a massive swing back to the LNP. This has always happened as far back as I can remember.
It gives me hope for our future but Mr Dutton will need to lift his game if he wants our support!

I’ve always voted Labour previously, but not any more.
