Seven new trainee extension officers have their boots on the ground across Queensland as part of the Queensland Labor’s Agricultural Extension Work Placement Program.
The program, being facilitated through a partnership with the Queensland Farmers’ Federation, is assisting farmers in Great Barrier Reef catchments enhance their land management practices.
It is part of Queensland Labor’s commitment to protect the Great Barrier Reef from one of its key threats – poor water quality. Since 2015, the government has invested more than $1 billion to protect the reef, including the current commitment of close to $290 million to the Queensland Reef Water Quality Program (QRWQP).
This includes a $125.1 million investment under the QRWQP to support the agricultural industry to improve the quality of water flowing to the Great Barrier Reef through initiatives such as industry-led best management practice programs, extension services, on-ground projects and the development of decision support tools.
This $2 million Agricultural Extension Work Placement Program is the latest round in a program that has been delivered by the Queensland Farmers Federation since 2018. To date, 31 extension officers have graduated from the program, many of whom continue to work in the agriculture or National Resource Management sectors in reef catchment areas.
The new extension officers have begun work placement programs with various natural resource management (NRM) groups and agricultural advisory groups.
They will be mentored by experienced leaders within their host organisation to help farmers refine their methods and enhance their business outcomes.
If we remove Labor doublespeak, it is clear to see these new officers have been sent to close down all farming east of the Great Dividing Range.
Just like Labor’s illegal tree police these misnomers are actually compliance officers who have already threatened to close down cattle and farming properties in Central Queensland because farmers want to reinstate former cultivation paddocks back to growing cereal crops to keep going after the manipulated cattle market prices dipped to 10 year lows last year.
The land owners were told they would be prosecuted if they ploughed previous cultivation paddocks.

Land clearing techniques over the past 40 years in Queensland have adhered to contour clearing same with cultivation practices in most districts of Queensland and NSW. However during 40 years almost no old growth vegetation has been cleared. Only regrowth is being cleared to make way for pastures. There are no new significant areas of cultivation that have been cleared during this period. We are well aware of the small areas of arable land which fits into this aforementioned category. And we have also discovered northern Savannah has survived as the most burnt landscape in Australia because of its high, regular rainfall which promotes vast areas of vegetation. This includes much of the NT and all of Cape York. The blackfellas burnt it for 1000 years whenever it could carry a fire long before white pastoralists started burning it over the past 100 years. The sheet erosion from burning started a millennia ago and this has been well evidenced on Cape York where there is almost no topsoil. Grass not trees retains and improves topsoil remediation. White pastoralists cannot be blamed here. Editor

I don’t want to sound credentialed, the opposite in fact, but I studied agriculture for four years, and year by year afterwards realised that I had in fact studied how to make the oil and chemical industries richer, likewise the farm machinery corporations. Ploughs, chemical fertilisers, and monocultures are destroying Australia’s soils. In the north, annual 99% burnoffs cause an average of 0.1% sheet erosion, which might not sound like much, but in a century it has removed almost entire topsoils and clogged creeks and rivers with sediment, which then causes floods.
When we clear land, this should be done following topographical contours, leaving strips of native bush that lessens wind load, shelters from sun, helps retain soil moisture, and provides food for termites thereby preventing them from attacking fruit trees.
Instead of using chemical fertilisers, which kill soil bacteria and destroy structure, we should reintroduce organic matter. And, yes, this is permaculture and it is more effective and profitable than agribusiness would have us believe.
Australia’s vast landmass contains only 4% arable land and most of this is either deteriorating or being buried by developers with tar and cement. We have known this is a crisis situation for fifty years and still it goes on.
So, yes, the NWO morons want to destroy food production, but other people are trying to improve production. Do your homework before raising the machine gun.
