Queensland has immediately returned to mandatory mask-wearing in Brisbane and the neighbouring Moreton Bay region after four new local coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours.
The infections, which break a 50-day streak without local cases in Queensland, include a man from Eatons Hill who works in an aviation training facility.
Queensland Health announced him a mystery case on Monday night.
The man, who is in his 30s, is double-vaccinated but had his second jab only a week ago. His wife has also tested positive, although their child is so far negative.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said there were significant concerns about the third case – a truck driver who was active in the community for a week while infectious, and who was staying in share accommodation.
“The police are speaking to this truck driver to get some more information from him,” she said on Tuesday.
The truck driver stayed at two hotels in Spring Hill and a boarding house in Stevens Road, South Brisbane, while potentially infectious.
The fourth is someone who tested positive after 14 days of hotel quarantine. Queensland authorities are working to determine if it is a historic infection.
There were also two more overseas-acquired cases.
Masks will be mandatory indoors and outdoors, if social distancing is not possible, in the two local government areas for at least a fortnight.
Chief health officer Jeannette Young said visitors would also be restricted in hospitals, aged-care and disability homes and prisons.
She said the next 48 hours were critical for Brisbane – and settings would be reviewed daily.
“At this stage, I do not think a lockdown is warranted. That could change, but I am really, really very comforted by the fact that people do know how to respond and respond very quickly. We have seen that for the last few outbreaks,” she said.
Ms Palaszczuk echoed Dr Young’s view.
“There’s no need to panic because Queenslanders have been doing the right thing, especially in the south-east,” she said.
“We’ve been here before. I know that south-east Queenslanders will rise to this challenge once again.”

I’m a teacher. I haven’t worked in around 2 months since these cowards and creeps forced masks on teachers and students. I won’t be treated like an animal or be degraded by these cowards. But the problem is…EVERYONE else in SEQLD is happy to wear a mask. Everyone complies. It’s very sad. I didn’t vote for any of these cowards. What would it matter. Didn’t Australia hand its sovereignty to the UN? These cowards are puppets.

Every scientist that hasn’t been bought out by the nazi science brigade knows that when it comes to the size of viral particles standard mask density is about as good as a collander.
But it does seem that there is good evidence that they can be a wonderful investment in bacterial pneumonias and other respiratory infections for those who don’t practice one time only use.

I’m a little bit concerned as to who will fill out the voting ballots on my behalf when I’m dead and gone. But then again, I suppose it won’t much matter to me. I’ll still end up voting early and often.

Yes, it’s rigged. I’ve done a couple of stints on election day and the overhwelming majority of booth staff are lefties, mostly Liebor. The workers get a free booze up at the end of the day in the local pub and it’s very rusted on Liebor.
I agree they’re getting what they voted for and public service is very rusted on hence it’s size but they’re not losing any money, still get to go to work and pay the bills.
Shame the QPol aren’t interviewing anybody on their death bed, might be a bit more convincing.

Never directed to an individual it is the scoreboard however achieved decided which dictatorship from the duopoly took office. Manipulation of votes cannot be proved but in the balance of probability “it was rigged”. The massive groundswell against the duopoly across the nation indicates the bag of dirty tricks will fail next time by sheer numbers. Vote them out is the game neither get your X on the ballot paper. ED

So yet again, how many of the genius medical experts and their computer “modelling”are predicting hundreds of thousands of Australians dying from Covid unless 80%-90% of the population are injected?
Given that around 1100 people are claimed to have perished from Covid in all of Australia in 18 months (some 800 alone in Andrews’ ONE OFF aged care homes disaster in Victoria last year), the Covid drama is showing up as a massive improvement on the barely registered annual flu toll.
Taking out Andrews’ one off cases we end up with approximately 300 unvaccinated Covid fatalities in a population of 26 million Australians.
That’s a little bit short of the hundreds of thousands the experts keep predicting in order to justify their “medical advice” . But it’s plenty enough to smash our way of life to bits and hock us into debt up to our eyeballs for a long, long time!

I receive Cairns News on a daily basis via email and post into Gab, I have great respect for what you do… But! your end comment in this post was un called for “Brisbane residents deserve the communists of ‘their’ Labor Party” I didn’t vote for that communist witch last election and neither did anyone I know.. People are responding quickly, meaning the obedience training has been very successful. That is the problem. The majority actually listen to these morons and believe. Two cases in Cairns a while ago, caused a 3 day lockdown and mask wearing for 2 weeks, which the vast majority were just too happy to comply with. False positives of course but that didn’t change the narrative of mask order. How many woke up? 3 last year turned up on a yacht. Major panic and carry on. False positives again. No big noise and drama about the false part. Ooh Cairns is really starting to experience the pandemic now was the media rant. Can’t stand how people are just so stupid

How can there be overseas-aquired cases if the borders are closed? Are you still letting so called movie stars for the money or have one if you taken an overseas as trip that you are concealing? All premieres and cohorts have a lot to answer for when this is over… and it will be over.
