Wilkie warns of totalitarian whistleblower bill supported by Liberal and Labor

In 2003 I resigned from my job as a Senior Intelligence Analyst to blow the whistle on the fraudulent claims the Howard Government was using to justify taking us to war in Iraq.

I’ve never doubted for one moment that what I did served the interests of my country and its people. Fast forward 15 years and I’m an Independent Federal MP representing the Tasmanian electorate of Denison.

Our Parliament is on the verge of passing draconian legislation that undermines government transparency, our civil liberties and freedom of the press.

Had this legislation (the Espionage and Foreign Interference Bill) been in place in 2003 when I alerted the Australian people to our government’s Iraq War deceit, I’d have faced 25 years in prison.

Can you watch and share this video to make sure this anti-democratic attack doesn’t fly under the radar?

I’m deeply concerned about the chilling impact this legislation will have on political debate in our country. Whistleblowers and journalists help us hold power to account, and when those voices are silenced our democracy suffers.

And it’s not just whistleblowers and journalists who need to be worried about this legislation. Ordinary people participating in peaceful protest also risk being charged with serious offences. For example, if you or one of your loved ones blockaded the Adani coal mine, the Attorney General could choose to charge you with sabotage – which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t think any single politician should have that sort of power.

Given the current state of global politics, it’s disturbingly easy to imagine the Australian Government might try to follow the US into Donald Trump’s first war. If that were to eventuate, do you want us to be a society that has criminalised whistleblowing?

The Turnbull Government looks set to pass this legislation next week, with the support of the Labor Party. Time is running out for us to make sure the Australian public know what is happening to our democracy.

Yours Sincerely,

Andrew Wilkie MP

About Editor, cairnsnews

One of the few patriots left who understands the system and how it has been totally subverted under every citizen's nose. If we can help to turn it around we will, otherwise our children will have nothing. Our investigations show there is no 'government' of the people for the people of Australia. The removal of the Crown from Australian Parliaments, followed by the incorporation of Parliaments aided by the Australia Act 1987 has left us with corporate government with policies not laws, that apply only to members of political parties and the public service. There is no law, other than the Common Law. This fact will be borne out in the near future as numerous legal challenges in place now, come to a head soon.

    Greetings .

Hoping you see fit to include

The criminalization of science whistle blowers ; judy Mikovits phd

  2. This legislation is certainly draconian but what can we do to stop it?It is another blow to our freedom, which our communist leaders are taking away from us bit by bit. …and they ARE communist leaders though they lead by other names.

  3. That’s rich coming from Wilkie. His Australian Bill of Rights Bill (currently before parliament) will hand overruling power to the UNHRC. It will overrule local, state and federal Australian law. He should be jailed for treason, and every politician that fails to object to his Bill with him.

  4. this should shock the Australian people to their core and force the red pill moment of millions of Australian’s people you need to wake up turn off your TV’s and get involved take stock and get act6ive if we do nothing this will ultimately lead to a system that is like the communist country of china where they are killing thousands of people every year because they have different political views or different religious views wake up and get in the fight.

  5. The Liberal & Labor party …
    Together ??
What exactly do they have to lose ??
What in God’s name, could whistleblowers tell & to whom ??
What information could they leak out to the public & other vested interests …
    That could harm Australia ??

“No, no , silly – you have missed the point – what could whistleblowers tell about the way Australia is run – that could be harmful to the political arena’s CONTINUED EXISTENCE.”

Today, nations borrow from foreign banks & financial lenders.
Today, those very lenders do not lend monies WILLY NILLY.
Steps need to be taken – to keep up appearances – or they will not lend to Australia.
Crikey mate … what then ??
It is not about us – WE THE PEOPLE – finding out … no, no, no.
It is that the foreign banks & financial lending institutions do not find out that the books are cooked & that borrowed monies are mismanaged in & to all directions – “Wink, wink, say no more.”

    As Bill Shorten says –
    “Now more that ever,
    Australians need the ABC –
    Our strong, trusted, independent

The political arena does not care if we find out –
It is the money lender that they care about.
“All that lovely money never reaching Australia.”
If the global money lender will not lend to Australia due to certain “TECHNICALITIES”
IT WILL BRING DOWN – not just the government but the whole political arena.

    It will never happen –
    REALLY ??
Look around the world & see that it happens so easily.

  6. I would say this to Bill Shorten.

Australia, as a nation – has no business running a media outlet.
What’s more, the ABC champions privatisation & yet; they have not insisted on taking the plunge themselves, how can that be -??
The truth is that Australia cannot AFFORD the billion plus dollars spent each year, to run a media network the provides all the products & services that mainstream media does …
Mainstream can do anything the ABC network can do
AND >>> they can do it CHEAPER & BETTER.
All the Australian government has to do is negotiate a working agenda with the private media & entertainment networks – so that vital & important government communications to the Australian Population is met.

One thing might be a concern … the ABC knows where all the skeletons are buried.
    Is that so …../!!
