Member for Mt Isa Rob Katter has expressed his condolences to the friends and family members of those involved in the Deighton Street explosion which took place early this morning.

“My heart goes out to those caught in the tragic incident this morning,” Mr Katter said.

Mr Katter said he is ready to provide any back up that may be necessary after media reports that a 39 year old male and two children aged children 4 and 7 were fatally injured.

“I have been in contact with the Minister for Emergency Services Jo-Ann Miller MP to see what assistance we need here on the ground,” Mr Katter said.

“This is a tragedy that will send shockwaves through the community.”

“We should be ready to support those in need after this disaster,” he said.

Emergency services will remain at the scene of the incident as the situation continues to develop.

“We are currently aware of a forensic team who will be travelling to the site of the explosion from Townsville,” Mr Katter said.

“For the moment, we ask people to remember the victims in their prayers and allow the emergency services to do their work.”

“We wait for more information as it becomes available,” he said.
