Rays Rounds for week commencing 12th May 2014
Last week in Parliament the Newman Government put Legislation through allowing the sell- off of some of our TAFE Facilities. I was extremely concerned about this Legislation and for the future of Vocational Education and Training (VET). I moved amendments to ensure that the money received from these asset sales would go back into the VET system and NOT consolidated revenue. During debate the relevant Minister, the Honourable Tim Mander MP, refused to answer my questions when speaking to the amendments.
It is OK to bring in Legislation when you have the numbers to hold Government, but I certainly do not believe it is OK to abuse the Parliamentary System. Such a show of arrogance to the people of Queensland is an outrage. Members of Parliament are elected to debate in Parliament these very important issues, ask questions of Ministers, and expect answers. We are witnessing the biggest break down in the once, democratic system, governing Queensland.
It clearly shows the margin by which this government holds power is extremely unhealthy.
Until next time,
