Aug 14 • A Paradigm Shift, Medical Marijuana

And the US government has patented synthetic THC so money can be made from it but not from the natural THC in the cannabis plant.

The sometimes wild sounding claims about cannabis curing cancer are frequently dismissed as conspiracy talk or quackery. After all, if cannabis actually cured cancer, wouldn’t it be used in modern medicine? Wouldn’t doctors prescribe this to their patients? Wouldn’t cannabis be at least classified as a medicine by government?

The fact is that there is a large group of people making an even larger amount of money off of the sale and perpetuation of chemicals manufactured and indicated for the treatment of cancer; and a plant that can be grown in your backyard poses a huge threat to chemical cash cow that these people have in their possession.

Marijuana remains federally classified as a schedule 1 drug. The DEA classifies Schedule I drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. Schedule I drugs are the most dangerous drugs of all the drug schedules with potentially severe psychological or physical dependence. Some examples of Schedule I drugs are: heroin, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), marijuana (cannabis), 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (ecstasy), methaqualone, and peyote.

At any one time, 59,300 prisoners charged with or convicted of violating marijuana laws are behind bars. Of those, 17,000 are behind bars for possession ONLY, not trafficking. Enforcing marijuana laws costs an estimated $10-15 billion in direct costs alone. Not to mention the sustained costs of incarceration of the individual who has done nothing to harm anyone. It is estimated that the money spent enforcing useless marijuana laws is double what we spend on education in this country.

There is an overt campaign being waged by the chemical pharmaceutical industrial complex to suppress the use and cultivation of this highly beneficial plant.

A quick youtube search and you find dozens of testimonies and videos of people who claim to have cured their cancer with cannabis.

How valid are these claims? Is their actual science that backs up these cancer curing stories? The answer is yes, they are in fact backed up by scientific studies. As with all treatments a 100 percent success rate is highly unlikely. But this amazing plant remaining an illegal, schedule 1 drug, and unable to be studied in a larger forum, is a travesty.

Below is a list of 34 studies for the skeptics out there. They are categorized by cancer type and treatment.
