THE 60% referendum rejection was apparently not convincing enough for the Australian Council of Trade Unions, that has reignited its campaign for an Indigenous Voice to Parliament aka “the Voice”, prompting calls that Labor is committing electoral suicide.
It it indicates anything, it shows that leftist loons are in charge of the organisation that allegedly works for the interests of Australian workers.
Political commentators at Sky News called it “a death wish” and questioned the union movement’s political judgement.
“Critics argue the move risks reopening a divisive debate at a time when Labor faces growing competition from One Nation among working-class voters,” MSN reported.
“Another referendum perhaps? The ruling class is delusional if they think they will succeed in their second attempt to install a racist governance structure in Australia’s constitution. Unless, perhaps, they first change the electorate,” the Wentworth Report commented.
Meanwhile the real objective of President Trump’s Iran campaign, freeing up global oil supplies, appears to be working, with petrol prices across Australia falling below $1.50 a litre over the weekend. One discount outlet on the Gold Coast was selling unleaded for 1.45.5c a litre and even country stations were selling under $1.50.
Prices have not been this low for years, and if they continue to fall, so will inflation, bringing real monetary benefits to workers and indeed all Australians who spend money at petrol bowsers.
Not only them, but transport companies will benefit along with everyone who buys the food and other goods they transport across the country. The food growers themselves will also benefit.
Early last week US media reported Trump’s post on Truth Social: “The big Oil Companies are not dropping their price at the pump commensurate with the sharply lower prices they are paying for Oil,” Trump wrote. The President then ordered the DOJ to investigate the oil companies for gouging.
Trump’s order appeared to take effect within just a few days, with oil prices falling about 4% last Thursday as tankers continued to transit the Strait of Hormuz, raising hopes that the worst of the Middle East supply disruption is over. This price fall began to catch up with Australia over the weekend.
As revealed in our featured Promethean Action discussion, Trump wants to slash US petrol prices down to US2.25 a gallon, which translates to a staggeringly cheap 86c a litre AUD (US gallon @ USD$2.25 converted to AUD divided by 3.785 litres).
But there’s a problem with lower oil prices. As stated by Trump, the big oil companies don’t want lower prices because it translates to lower returns for their mostly corporate shareholders. Lower oil prices also drastically affect government revenue, based on a percentage share of every litre sold at the pump.
So Trump is doing what few if any national leaders have done before – attacking the unholy alliance between Big Oil and Big Government.
Big Oil – Shell, BP, Exxon-Mobil and Chevron – are quite happy to bang the environmental drum, bankrolling environmental movements for carbon credits and backing government regulations that make oil extraction more expensive and difficult for junior oil explorers – their competition.
And back to the ACTU and their ill-conceived revival of the Voice: Who previously backed this campaign? That’s right: most if not all the big corporate businesses in Australia. We need to include Big Unions, in that unholy government-corporate alliance.
