Israeli soldiers had restrictions imposed on their ability to carry their firearm off duty. Reserve police officers and border guardsmen found their longarms removed. Kibbutz security teams trained by the Israeli National Police and IDF (it counted as reserve service) had their firearms removed and locked away in centralized gun safes on the settlements, with access restricted to certain trusted individuals (who were either killed or away on holiday so the people couldn’t access their armouries). The right of Israeli citizens to carry a handgun was further tightened from anyone with military/police service to only those who had served in the infantry or special forces (their highest equivalent MOS in terms of training).
And when the kibbutz security teams were disarmed and disbanded, they were supposed to be replaced by commercial security groups which wasn’t affordable for the settlements.
It’s funny that every one of these policies introduced by the Netanyahu gov before the attack has since been reversed. The IDF now provide training, long guns and body armour to kibbutz security teams. And settlers can now do their reserve service in the kibbutz teams.
Same goes for their reforms of the reserve forces. Reserve brigades assigned to regional security duties during their yearly mobilization were disbanded, and their members released from reserve duty. The IDF had cancelled at least 6 yearly deployments of, according to harretz, company to battalion sized elements of these brigades to the same stretch of the border where Hamas crossed on October 6. Instead of being defended by a brigade of older reservists with older equipment, the border was supposed to be defended by 2 groups of SF who acted as a quick reinforcement. Oddly enough these 2 task groups were reassigned to the Golan in the week prior to the attack.
Israelis voted, so they deserved it.

This video and article should be viewed in the context that Hamas was set up by Israel to prevent the plans for peace, and the October 7 Hamas event was orchestrated by the IDF where even several of the IDF armed forces have admitted they were directed to stand down to allow the Hamas to come into Israel without opposition.
