Speaking of money. Spare a thought this holiday period for the more than 750,000 long-term unemployed (many of whom have atleast one disability and have had their applications for the DSP declined due to Gillard and Abbott-era ‘reforms which have resulted in up to 75% of applications being declined today, and applicants being kicked down to the lower Jobseeker payment). Howard-era ‘reforms’ which indexed the dole to inflation in lieu of wages (like the Pension) have resulted in the gap between the Jobseeker payment and Pension continuing to grow since 1997 to the point that Jobseeker is now the fourth lowest welfare payment of all 38 OECD countries (incl: Costa Rica and Bulgaria who have the highest rates of poverty), and has been described by the Salvation Army and other Charitable organisations as “well below the poverty line”. The rate is so low that only 0.2% of rental apartments are affordable for that cohort. And those lucky enough to find an affordable 1br apartment have to spend between 78% – 100% of their fortnightly payments just on rent, leading to malnutrition and poor health outcomes, incl: depression, preventable illnesseses which, ironically, have to be picked up by the taxpayer through the NDIS, Medicare, PBS and public hospital system, and sadly suicide. The Economic Inclusion Advisory Committee’s latest report to the Federal Govt uncovered “disturbing facts” about the “severe” hardship experienced by people on income support. The report found that recipients were far more likely to die by suicide than other Australians, with 6,000 deaths recorded between 2011 and 2021. It also found that people on Jobseeker were 14 times more likely to go without a substantial meal at least once a day, and that less than half were in “good health”. And for those able to work, the payment is so low it is an impediment to gaining employment. So this ideologically driven policy of driving this cohort into abject poverty (which has had bilateral support since the 90’s) is clearly a failed policy by any measure and is a National disgrace.

Maybe throw in “Happy Holidays” just to be sure where we all stand, all shitting bricks in fear of someone noticing or looking sideways at us, never mind alleging OFFENSE.

If we’d like to get real particular about it, kind of an insult to be ignoring a certain fella’s BIRTHDAY isn’t it?
For whatever it might be worth, I personally don’t give a rat’s arse about the commercial feeding frenzy and all the other pagan BS shoved down our throats in this tediously opportunistically stylized period of the calender, but I DO care about the significance of the annual date repeating some 2,025 odd times since my best friend in the Universe joined our lowly ranks here on Earth in the full knowledge of what a certain race of Vampires were gonna do to Him, and all because HE gave a rat’s arse about US.
Meanwhile, I’ll be fervently praying for good tidings and a 100 megaton airburst directly above each parliament house all across Australia, so we’ve got some good news to discuss over the fence with the neighbors this coming CHRISTMAS DAY.
