Christine, if you are a freedom voter in Queensland and preference only 1-12 below the line including a Greens at 12th, the vote has a strong chance of being secured by Greens while bypassing all freedom leaning and other candidates that you haven’t numbered.

I dispute People First stuffed up with the how to vote cards, I voted the same way before seeing the HtV card shown here. The rationale is that if you include Lib-Lab the preference may well end up there in the last allocation of preferences. The trick is to supply a legit vote which means following their rules, without letting them run away with a preference, so if you only have to fill in 6 then you can, after that the system relies on honesty from a majority of the vote counters because scrutineers do not seem to hang around for the senate count, which peobably starts about 10pm. So your senate vote stays with the minor parties and has no possibility of being thrown into Lib-Lab-Nat-Green-Teal to make up their final numbers. People probably don’t realise the numbers that count are the first and last. The first is primary vote, the last determines the preference. So in the lower house you put for example 1 and 8 then the numbers in-between probably don’t get used. The number 8 in this example rules out Lib/Lab/Nat/Green/Teal, the “careerists”, the party minions, who are mostly just useless bums on seats, with a few exceptions such as Canavan, Antic and Chandler, probably one or two others are making some effort, as the voter should do.
