I am sure you would agree that God is the final judge. We dare not latch onto any Biblical verse and be glad of the destruction of anyone or any race. If we took judgement seriously as it is meant to be taken, we should weep for them as Jesus wept over Jerusalem.
Sad thing is that so many who get on their high horse thinking that all will be well for them, and pass judgement on others, run the risk of Him saying “I never knew you, depart from me.”
But try telling them that.
No point in just believing in God. The Devil believes and he trembles.
I admit that I once unthinkingly stood with those passing judgement on others. That is what the church taught. I never questioned it. Till now. What woke me up?

Presumably they’d negotiate a mutually beneficial trade alliance. The US did indeed technically own and operate the Panama Canal prior to the 1977 deal, but the claim that Panama is in breach of the terms of the agreement sounds pretty bogus.

Dying empires behave like wounded and dying beasts, they’re unsightly and dangerous. Why would the US go to war with Panama? Because they are an opponent they could beat.
The Chinese don’t control the Panama Canal, the Panamanian government controls it. There are Chinese contractors maintaining it because American contractors didn’t want the job.
“They built it so why not”.
It was the brilliance of a Frenchman that even enabled such a project. Many tried and failed. But it could not have been done without this far-thinking brilliant man. Shouldn’t he have a higher claim?
But the thinking that if someone builds something, then it’s theirs, will certainly stop joint foreign investment in projects that a country cannot do on its own.
The world has benefited, and that includes America. I’m sure they didn’t build it on their own, and it cost hundreds of lives.
There is another alternative but I’m not game to say where it is while Trump is in his takeover mood.

Australia is on the opposite side of the world to all of this. Keep it in perspective. This is just the posturing and jostling of Empires for influence and control over trade routes etc.
A comparable situation to Chinese dominance over the Panama Canal might be Americans seizing control over the Malacca Straits or maybe the Suez Canal. Or trying to wrest control of Arctic shipping routes away from Russia.
It wouldn’t matter who has the most influence over any of these maritime choke points if everyone played fair, but let’s be honest, they don’t do they? All the great powers seek to leverage every means they can to gain advantage over their competitors, because in the Game of Thrones every competitor is an adversary.
And even if you would really prefer to just play fair and compete on a level playing field,whether you like it or not, if your competitor decides that you’re their adversary, then they’re automatically your adversary and you’re compelled to play the Game of Thrones too.
And FWIW, helpless little third-rate foreign-owned colonial shit-holes like Australia are mostly just complacent and compliant pawns in the Great Game.

And China is not controlling it. The Canal is just too busy now and ships are lining up for hours to go through something which is inadequate.

My information is that the Canal is run by the Panamanian State who were GIVEN BACK control of its own Sovereign territory. Therefore if he wants it he will have to attack a Sovereign State.
Then who is safe?
