Local News

Mareeba Shire Council has condemned Tablelands motorists to an antiquated, narrow, tortuous and dangerous Kuranda Range Road for another 50 years by supporting Queensland Labor and its proposal to build a new bridge over the Barron River.

Savvy observers and the State Opposition know that bankrupt Labor does not have sufficient funds to buy a bucket of bolts yet Mareeba Mayor Angela Toppin has supported a hollow gesture by the ALP to build a $1.8 billion bridge.

The notorious Kuranda Range Road was blocked several times over the past week with minor accidents and a tree over the road holding up traffic for four hours. A new or old bridge would not prevent accidents on the dangerous mountain track. The track remains the problem.

Compounding the range hiatus even further is federal Labor, also broke after spending $450m on an unnecessary and divisive race referendum and tens of billions on another race to the bottom destroying reliable and economic coal-fired power stations replacing them with airy-fairy wind generators, thousands of hectares of solar panels and a handful of Eveready batteries.

Notwithstanding, the spider web of massive power poles and transmission lines criss-crossing the continent is destroying some of Australia’s best agricultural land at the behest of the communist United Nations.

Federal Labor has already cancelled funding for a number of major Queensland projects and the Kuranda Range Road or a new Barron River bridge had never made it to any federal wish list in any case.

The council has been conned by Queensland Labor which has offered a dry-rotted olive branch to the Tablelands and Cairns with an offer of a new bridge trying to take the heat off beleaguered Transport Minister Mark Bailey.

Bailey has been under siege since trying to hide a $2.4 billion cost overrun with a train building program and ripping off hundreds of thousands from Tablelands motorists with dodgy speed cameras leaving no hope of any federal funds for a new bridge in the overwrought state or federal budgets.

To the best of our knowledge Mareeba Mayor Angela Toppin has not visited either site of the proposed new roads to Cairns, or has she contacted the local road designer, Ron Reddicliffe for details of the new highway.

No bridge will ever be built by the political duopoly. Mareeba Shire Council should bite the bullet and call for a new road without a river crossing, which would cost about half that of a new bridge or face the wrath of Kuranda residents, the transport industry and ratepayers with cars at the March local government election.

There will be no council funding recriminations by the state because Queensland Labor will not be in office after October 2024. – from our Atherton correspondent

  1. Blisskitt… They are tying up loose ends. I saw that person’s video re the paedophilia that Train discovered and was about to expose. I hope he has some evidence stashed away.

  2. tonyryan43 said – “Several experts say the 5000 launchings scheduled in the very near future will produce enough toxins to wipe out all life on earth…”

An ominous forecast, makes one wonder why we view nukes with such trepidation, or alternatively why anyone even bothers with them when such a simple cheap alternative exists.

And we can be assured that creepy Bill will be discreetly pleasuring himself at 30,000 feet in his private jet as he fantasizes about all these things.

And Klaus will be quaffing another goblet of baby blood as he reclines on his throne and smugly contemplates the slaughter of the innocents.

Notwithstanding the dire threat, I rather suspect that despite our best (worst) efforts, life is a resilient creature. Life will find a way. Will we choose the easy path, or the difficult?

tonyryan43 also said – “… if you want to live long enough to hang the jab mandaters.”

FWIW, I’ll reanimate my crusty corpse and rise from the crypt just to pull the lever.

  3. While the media focuses on parochial issues, the US is busy installing missiles in Australia that will ultimately be targetted by the Chinese, as well they might considering the US effectively declared its intention to attack in 2015.

Such a strike will vaporise stored missile fuel causing a vast cloud of chlorine gas that will kill eveny living thing downwind. But while researching the dangers, it was discovered that the rockets used to send satelites into orbit, have much the same effect. Several experts say the 5000 launchings scheduled in the very near future will produce enough toxins to wipe out all life on earth, yet no agency is monitoring this.

The organisation I work for asked me to submit details to an environmental assesment. This I did, but I also sent the three attachments to CN because we can be sure the mainstream media will not. By all means, onsend these to anybody and everybody, if you want to live long enough to hang the jab mandaters.

  4. Trillionaires’ club desires to totally control world & kill everyone, yawn yawn must be beer o’clock what’s on the telly

  5. If you want to know why Palachook does this and doesn’t do that you only have to ask her boss Klaus Swab

  6. Hi Ed & co. Not related to this story but thought many here would be interested in this from ABC today, re: Weiambilla shootings.

    From article:

“A man arrested in the US state of Arizona in connection with the religiously-motivated terrorist attack in Wieambilla last year sent the shooters “Christian end-of-days” ideological messages in the months leading up to it, police have revealed.

The 58-year-old, who can now be identified as Donald Day, was arrested near Heber-Overgaard, north-east of Phoenix, on December 1 US time as part of the investigation.

Alan Dare, Constable Rachel McCrow and Constable Matthew Arnold were shot and killed on December 12, 2022 in the rural Queensland community.

Stacey, Gareth and Nathaniel Train, who police say subscribed to a broad Christian fundamentalist belief system known as premillennialism, also died.

Speaking at a joint press conference with the FBI, Queensland Police Assistant Commissioner Cheryl Scanlon said there was evidence the man and the Trains commented on one another’s YouTube videos.

“Between May 2021 and December 2022, the man repeatedly sent messages containing Christian end-of-days ideology to Gareth, and then later to Stacey,” she said.

The man appeared in court today and remains in custody. ”

    And the story goes on.

  7. Wind turbines are not generators. They do not produce usable useful energy.
The solar energy referred is not synchronous to and cannot enter the grid.
NB. Australian electricity energy is 50 hertz and all generators need to be synchronised.
    Blackouts are on the way.

  8. Joey… like the Senator said in Gladiator – we need to keep the mob entertained and distracted ! – or words to that effect.

  9. @zzz3856,

Generally, to keep the masses entertained, distracted & to generate profits etc.

  10. As you know, I’ve campaigned on K-range alternatives since 1999, even gathering that 4,500 signature pre-internet petition for the Lake Morris-Davies Creek corridor.

But no surface road plan has any hope at all these days, particularly not down the same valley as Crystal Cascades.

Which is why I switched from the LM-DC surface road to this option several years back.

This is the guts of it…

    – seven kilometre surface road from Davies Creek Road turnoff
    – seventeen kilometre tunnel to Ray Jones Drive
    – gentle incline to accommodate B-doubles and -triples

    – tunnel spoil transferred to East Trinity to bund four square kilometres
    – shipping channel dredged properly, to 15 metres, to fill bunds
    – tunnel spoil caps dredge spoil

    – two bridges to cross to Admiralty Island and to East Trinity
    – liquid fuel storage moved to Admiralty Island

    – additional mangrove habitat channels cut into Admiralty Island
    – more than replaces mangrove habitat lost near Ray Jones Drive

    – new East Trinity land sold to pay for roads, tunnel, bridges, dredging
    – no net cost to taxpayers
    – no privately-owned properties resumed
    – few disruptions to existing traffic
    – takes Tablelands traffic straight to the CBD
    – provides tsunami evacuation route for Cairns that crosses no rivers
    – weatherproof

    – by-passes the green-left UNESCO’s WHL control of our landscape
