Mention of a Taser, a knife and a 95-year-old’s movements were removed from the first public statement NSW Police drafted about the fatal stunning of the great-grandmother, new documents reveal.
Clare Nowland was tasered during a confrontation with police while walking with a frame and holding a steak knife at the Yallambee Lodge in Cooma on May 17.

The mother-of-eight, who had dementia, died a week later in hospital.
A 71-word press release, approved by Police Commissioner Karen Webb was issued 12 hours after Mrs Nowland was injured but provided little detail about her “interaction with police”.
“No further details are available at this time,” it said.
But documents released under freedom of information laws reveal the statement was published after police slashed a much-longer draft that included several key details, including the use of the Taser.
The 171-word draft prepared by the NSW Police Media Unit outlined how police responded at 4.15am to reports that an aged care home resident had a knife and found a woman “still armed … in a small room”.
“Police and paramedics attempted to speak to the woman; however, all instructions were ignored,” it said.
“When she stood up and moved towards officers, a Taser was deployed by a constable.”
The draft noted the woman was treated by paramedics at the scene and left space for her latest hospital condition to be included.
The published statement omitted both details, stating her condition was “being monitored” in hospital.
The officer’s job being placed under review was also removed.
Mrs Nowland was unnamed in both versions, as per standard police procedure.
Police did not publicly comment on the incident again until after multiple media reports emerged more than 36 hours after the tasering.
In an extraordinary press conference on May 19, Assistant Commissioner Peter Cotter detailed how Mrs Nowland had a serrated steak knife in a small treatment room when she moved slowly towards officers and was tasered.
“She had a walking frame but she had a knife,” he said.
Ms Webb later defended the decision to omit mention of the Taser in the first press release, of which she had oversight.

“It was important the family was informed of the situation in a factual matter before we went public on it,” she told Sydney radio 2GB on May 22.
“That’s very necessary and I’m sure that family appreciates that now.”
She denied police were hiding anything, saying the Nowland family deserved to learn about the incident via police, not media reports.
The incident sparked calls for more independent police oversight and the release of the police body camera footage.
Opposition Attorney General spokesperson Alister Henskens on Wednesday accused police of a “cover-up”.
“It’s come to light that there has been a cover-up and the question is, what action is the police minister going to take to investigate?” he said in NSW State Parliament.
The officer who fired the stun weapon has since been suspended with pay and charged with three offences, including recklessly causing grievous bodily harm.
Senior Constable Kristian White, 33, will appear in a Cooma court on July 5.

And while we are questioning things. How’s about the fabulous supposed “Titan” searching the supposed “Titanic” relics. All those on board submarine dead. Really? All mega wealthy, pretty sure they wouldn’t be so stupid to jeopardise their lives on something proven to be faulty (well according to the news). Really 1 hr 45 mins and dead and they couldn’t be found, detected. I may have fallen for stories in the past but not this one, an absolute loud of rubbish. Just from one article:
“The search for the missing Titan submersible fully captured the world’s attention, from reports of mysterious “banging” noises to estimates of how much oxygen may have been left in the underwater vessel.
On Sunday morning, the OceanGate Expeditions submersible Titan was beginning its trip to visit the Titanic wreckage at a depth of 12,500ft. About one hour and 45 minutes into its deep dive, the submersible lost communications with its surface ship, the Polar Prince, and is believed to have suffered a “catastrophic implosion”.
Aboard the Titan were CEO and founder of OceanGate Expeditions Stockton Rush, British billionaire explorer Hamish Harding, renowned French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet and Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman Dawood.”
and another article
“Sensors operated by the Navy detected the likely implosion of the Titan submersible hours before the U.S. Coast Guard publicly shared that it had gone missing — a revelation that means a five-day search that sparked round-the-clock media coverage may have been futile from the start.
The Navy detected “an anomaly consistent with an implosion or explosion” in acoustic data taken from the same area where the Titan went missing, a senior Navy official told NPR in a written statement.
A second official confirmed to NPR that it had registered that acoustic data on Sunday.”
Yet they didn’t know where this supposed object was for 5 days, according to media? Yep right.
Another distraction.
This whole story is extremely questionable. Why would an aged care facility call police to a non threatening frail woman living with dementia (even with a knife)? Answer??? Who knows? However, according to what I have read on the back of this story Dementia Australia have lobbied for more funding for those working in Aged Care to get appropriate training for staff dealing with people living with dementia.
Dementia Australia (Ita Buttrose yet again), have a government funded website (taxpayer) which is potentially the worst website (probably by design) yet is purported to be dementia friendly. Way too much stuff on it and designed for you to pay. Laughable. Check it out for yourself. http://www.dementia.org.au
xyz47 said – “The police commissioner said that the driver allegedly threw a wine bottle at the cop…”
This is a bit like the Coles CEO saying that a shopper threw a bag of potatoes at the local Coles security guard before the security guard beat the shit out of the shopper and tasered him just for good measure – despite eyewitness rtestimony to the contrary. Who gives a rat’s arse what this treasonous arsehole piece of shit has to say?
These SADISTIC THUG BASTARDS aren’t “police”, they are HIRED MERCENARIES working for FOREIGN OWNED CORPORATIONS which are REGISTERED as such, and have the unbelievable audacity to be trading under the names of the respective “police services” in each Australian state and territory.
Just WHO THE F*CK do these idiot corporate-paid marionettes IMPERSONATING “police commissioners” think they are???
When they’re all dead and buried, I wouldn’t waste my time dignifying these treasonous mongrels by even pissing on their graves. Matter of fact, I’d be highly inclined to dig up their disgusting carcasses just to have the pleasure of tossing it down the sewer where it belongs – with apologies to all the legitimate human waste thereby contaminated with this Luciferian shit.
And then there’s the other cop who punched the hell out of a man after he had an accident while he was in the car.. then as he went to get out of the car he tasered him as well. Admittedly the man was drink driving, but was that really necessary. People filming the incident were yelling at the copper to stop. The man appeared to be too scared to get out of the car.
The police commissioner said that the driver allegedly threw a wine bottle at the cop – this was NOT seen on the film and stuck up for the cop.
Who are these guys? It seems they are just thugs.
Brian Johnston said – “I hope the cop gets tasered as a part of his punishment.”
I hope this shit-for-brains mercenary thug impersonating a “cop” gets strung up from a lamp post and televised nationally.
And tasered a few times while he’s still kicking.
Just to let all his heavily armed shit-for-brains mercenary thug mates impersonating “cops” all across Australia get an idea of what’s in store for all of them.
We can can all dream.
How did the cop know she was not suffering dementia. He didn’t.
Some people with dementia dont recognise their own children. She may have thought she was carrying a drinking straw.
We have a big tough idiot cop who is afraid of a 90 year old woman with a blunt knife and got the situation all wrong. Words fail me.
The cops said the knife was serrated in an attempt to make the situation life threatening and serious. Pathetic.
I hope the cop gets tasered as a part of his punishment.
Cops in Australia have become brain dead scumbags who are incapable of helping the community only putting fines on innocent people and setting up money grabbing speed cameras. They are not interested in community policing nor acting real criminals. Get rid of police and get back guns for citizens to protect and defend themselves.
Cops are useless
what a piece of shit this cop is, he could have walked up to her and taken the knife out of her hand no problems, this goes for all you shit cops out there you are a bunch of cowards hiding behind a badge and costume, collectively you act tough but in reality you are weak as piss, you would shit yourselves if challenged individually.
I hope the family involved sues the living daylights out of the police force for this.
I have read somewhere that some of the Australian police are trained in Israel. So, no wonder that they act as in this story of a 95-years woman who was tasered by a NSW cop. Just recently the Israeli killed a 2-years old Palestinian boy and his grandfather in their own home.
Pat from Vic. You hit the nail on the head, these corrupt corporate GESTAPO GOONS have spead to all states… there are no decent cops anymore. The good ones have left in disgust and have been replaced by scum that get off on their own importance and bullying, that’s how they get their jollies… Compassion no longer exists and has been replaced with contempt.
In Australia, we have no “good cops”.
In fact, we have no bona-fide “cops”, all we have is armies of heavily armed treasonous shit-for-brains mercenary thugs who enforce policy for the private foreign-owned corporations trading as the respective “police service” in each Australian state and territory.
These arseholes – ALL of them – work for their corporate employers, and get a special thrill whenever they get to injure, maim or kill law-abiding Australian men, women and children, and most especially helpless old women and teenage girls.
I hope her family sue the hell out of them! This is police brutality, there no other word for it.
They always change the story later and the guilty party has a little holiday on full pay and nothing happens to them.
What happened is disgusting and should not be swept under the carpet !
It was heartbreaking to learn of this when it happened. Australian cops are so corrupt it’s not funny anymore. They are about to lose their jobs soon though as GESARA and the restored republic will oust all people who are involved in law (which includes magistrates, judges, barristers, police… anyone involved in law) who have acted criminally within their job. The tide is about to turn on them. And it couldn’t happen sooner.
I don’t think the cop was deranged, I think the militarized covid coppers are testing, testing, testing the Australian population in terms of policing and what we will accept.
As always, the story is that the Official Narrative has changed. They have been in possession of the relevant facts from the beginning. When they perceive they have lost control of the Narrative, they flip the script. We are being conditioned.
The point of this exercise is to ‘normalise’ the tasering of dementia patients who ignore police directions. We are supposed to be OK with this. We should never be OK with this.
