Russian plane crash investigators say Airbus broke up in mid-air over desert | 01 Nov 2015 | The airline that crashed in Egypt’s Sinai desert killing all 224 people onboard broke up in mid-air at high-altitude, according to Russian officials prompting aviation experts to speculate that a sudden mechanical failure or a mid-air explosion could have been to blame. As flags flew at half-mast on a national day of mourning in Russia, investigators rushed to the scene of the wreckage where 163 bodies had been recovered by Sunday afternoon. Some were found several miles away from the twisted and blackened remains of the Airbus A321. Victor Sorochenko, the head of Russia’s interstate aviation committee, said it was too early to draw firm conclusions but it was clear that the plane had broken up in flight on its way from Sharm el-Sheikh to St Petersburg.

U.S. State Dept. Halloween News Dump: $100M More Announced for Syrian ‘Rebels’ After $500M Recently Spent to Train Only 4-5 Militants —US pledges nearly $100 million to support Syrian opposition | 31 Oct 2015 | The United States ramped up its support for Syria’s opposition with a pledge of nearly 100 million in fresh aid on Saturday. Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced the additional assistance at the Manama Dialogue security conference in the Gulf island nation [slave state] of Bahrain, where discussion of Syria dominated the gathering of mostly Western and Arab officials. The American promise of cash, which it says brings to nearly *way over* 500 million the amount it has pledged to the opposition since 2012, came a day after the U.S. announced it was intensifying its fight against the Islamic State group in Syria with the deployment of up to 50 special operations troops.
US spent $500m training only ‘four or five’ Syrian ‘rebels’ | 16 Sept 2015 | A programme to train Syrian moderate rebels [aka terrorists] to ‘take on’ Islamic State (Isis) [aka I-CIA-SIS] costing 500m (pounds 320m) has resulted in only "four or five" soldiers being successfully deployed, the top US military commander overseeing the conflict testified. The strategy was central to US plans to retake territory controlled by the jihadist group in Syria, with the Pentagon announcing plans to train an army of more than 5,000 moderate rebels to take on IS on the ground in late 2014. "The programme is much smaller than we hoped," conceded the Pentagon’s policy chief, Christine Wormuth, before the Senate Armed Services Committee on 16 September. [LOL! Not really. It’s *exactly* what was ‘hoped for,’ so I-CIA-SIS could explode in growth and more money would be ‘needed’ to ‘fight’ them. And on Halloween evening – a Saturday night, no less – the nut-jobs at the US State Department announce that the US is going to spend *$100 million more* on the moderate Syrian ‘rebels’ who either cut and run or join I-CIA-SIS. See how this works? Anything so Congress can pretend to be outraged over the deficit while TPPimp Obama and his GOP allies slash Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. –LRP]
