Cyclone Ita has devastated a 50-hectare banana farm in North Queensland.

The farm is the lifeblood of the town of Hopevale, 350 kilometres north of Cairns, providing employment and a source of income for the small community.

Farm manager Kenny Reid says all mature trees were pushed over by the winds.

"It is quite a setback for us, financially and emotionally.

"All the trees with bunches on them were broken off, but all the little suckers survived, so if we can get cleaned up we can get going with those plants."
