I’m retired with too much time on my hands so said ‘The G-man Show’ who bagged all Boomers as such. That is not the case with me, as I care for my two family members with significant health challenges. But all the same I do make time to inform myself and find Cairns News an excellent source for news.

I tell you what I do regarding computers. First off, I do all my research on a laptop with an external keyboard and a mouse. I have these devices set-up on a ubute computer desk I made myself out of 30mm square tube. It’s has three levels and a keyboard tray. Cost me $80 all up in the 2000s. The boards are envelope boards I got for next to nothing. Building this desk to a day worth of welding which was easy as I’m a locomotive fitter, etc.

The laptop I got from ebay for $200 and I installed Ubuntu without dramas. That way I don’t have to worry about viruses and I can give Bill Gates the shove. This computer set-up gives me no worries and I have a back-up system in case it dies. All up cost $480 plus the cost of a few flash drives for data storage. Harvey Norman eat your heart out.

I’m going to trial the suggestions here as we all need to do our part to side-step these evil entities.

Most VPN’s are not private as John McAfee disclosed. But there are one or two that are, because they were designed that way from the ground up. I also don’t fully trust Proton mail. I’m looking into vp.net and a Tuta free email account.

Thanks for your reply, I follow znet, computer magazine I use to buy years ago, I still get there emails, they said to use Linux, the brand you mentioned, I don’t have the money to buy Linux computer, I’m good with technology, but I think it’s beyond me to download Linux and sort it out.
Already seen Microsoft tried taking over my laptop and stopped me, from stopping downloads, I looked up how to take back control of my own computer and they took away the buttons that allowed me to do that.
So we ruffly got one month to sort out our computer system as Windows 10 will stop updating or working, not sure there.
So I need to find a technical support for help.
Thing is, I got Proton email, I looked into Proton vpn, but it runs through play store and with play store being Google as I’ve already found out it will not work?
I use phone mostly on internet, less on my laptop because of Microsoft.
Does your Proton vpn work via phone without app?
I use Brave, they also stop Microsoft snooping, I use start page and they stop 3rd parties, you can zap them off as I have done to google who stuck to my start page and zapped them off.
Suggest you follow Znet, great information on there, they go through everything, you learn alot with them.

I hope Cairns Newspaper puts up more information to what we got to deal with, even us disability pensioners which I’m worried about being force into digital id. Attention Jen. Security is an issue I have looked at for years. The answer for me is to follow Glenn Meder from Privacy Academy. He has good recommendations.

Use a Linux computer & if you have the money write them & ask the best model they recommend as they did order Linux to custom make a number of specially made to order units. The safest search engine is Brave & the best VPN is Proton VPN in use with a Proton mail address. Check with them but essentially all cookie clearing companies like cc cleaner etc etc are spy systems although he says if you want to use one then just use Clam.
I could not afford a new Linux computer so I got a friend to strip down & clear my computer & install Linux mint with the above outlined points. There are no ads with Brave & I can watch yt stuff if need be however never sub to any yt channel or you are back in the Merry go round.

Duck Duck Go still tracks you and onsells your info. If you want an accurate search engine that is uncensored, use Yandex. It’s very good and you can find what Google is hiding.
