The Qld LNP government has been urged not to close down one of Queensland's most iconic rail journeys, the Savannahlander departs Cairns to Forsayth in NW Qld

Katter says keep the western rail system open for tourists and if the line was properly repaired freight could be reinstated especially cattle movements and minerals from various mines throughout the north west.

Local councils do not have the financial capacity to maintain roads suitable for heavy transport, such as triple road trains carrying 130 tonnes of mineral concentrates.

Sign the petition to ensure the LNP State Government allocates sufficient funding for rail maintenance including bridges:

  1. The 50cent subsidies in cities that is costing millions a day, (for instance one single diesel urban bus doing stop starts all day uses between 300 to 600 lts of fuel per day) this stupid vote winning city BS has secured the demise of all country, rural, remote and off grid funding for anything ever unless it’s for Aboriginal land councils ( baced in citys) Aboriginal grants (for people who pretend to live on country) or stupid f#*king wind and solar projects.

Forget it people! Until the men in this country grow a set we are F*#ked

  2. I’ve no doubts about the good intentions of the Rail Tram and Bus Union for their members, local businesses and visitors; but as Ed’s and supporters for the establishment of a State of Far-North Queensland understand, Buderim and Cairns are worlds apart.

Not knowing, when was the last time the Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Liberal National Party MP, Brent Mickelberg travelled the Savannahlander?

No matter how many sign the petition say ten thousand, if it is delivered by one entity as in the RTBU. or even two, it will be considered one e-mail or one letter from one “community group” or one “other”; a convenient way for consultants employed by state or federal government bureaucrats to write up reports weighting the scales in favour of preconceived agendas.

I notice Mickelberg has a 30 seconds survey on his website relating to our area which could be interpreted as the electorate he represents.

A short note to his parliamentary e-mail address: buderim@parliament.qld.gov.au that funding be sought and provided urgently for railway track and bridge repairs between Einasleigh and Forsayth, and Kuranda and Mareeba as well as conversion of the engines be upgraded to a low-carbon-based energy mode of transport, showcasing to the public and visitors a sustainable multi-modal public passenger and freight transport system that successfully connects citizens, local communities, industries and natural assets, requesting confirmation your e-mail was received and read by Mickelberg, will I feel achieve more than a lazy signature.

  3. If the mining companies arms length companies were exposed.
If Australia oil royalty of 8% received more attention.
If Australia received her due taxes the whole damned situation would be different.

Australia receives a 8% royalty. That is 8% of the well head price. The well head is the surface valve. From that the mining companies can claim costs. The royalty I believe is 8% of the reduced figure.

All the while Daniel Andrews escapes penalty (Gaol) for the accident.
And Albanese is more worried about a road to his multi million dollar holiday home.

I raised the question of royal with the now Ex MP McFarlane who would not disclose the oil royal because it was ‘commercially sensitive’. A liar?
