NOW and then social media can provide us with very special stories that seem to come from nowhere. We publish below one such story from a Facebook site called Daily Stories and credited to someone named Tony Biggs. The story concerns the homeless man Jesse, (pictured above) who he encountered one day:
This is Jesse, he is a drifter who lives near the bridge in my area. He owns nothing but a bike, a bird and a bag of about 10 items!
Yesterday, while I was riding my bike down around the beach – which is about 5km from my house – I got a flat tyre. I had no choice but to turn around and wheel my bike the long walk home.
A few people rode past and didn’t really pay me any attention and I didn’t expect them too, but as I started walking, headphones in my ears, I noticed the homeless guy from under the bridge saying something to me. At first I thought he was going to ask me for something so I popped my headphones out and asked him what he wanted? He then replied “I don’t want anything bra but I’ve got a new tube in my bag and you can have it if ya want!” Shocked at first I said no thanks but he insisted. So I walked over to his little clearing where he had his things and his pet bird sat in a busted cage.
He opened up his empty bag and gave me the tube (which was one of the very few things he had) helped me change the tyre, even pumped it up! I asked him how I could pay him back and he said to me “don’t worry about it bra, this is what it’s all about!”
The enormity of his situation and the fact that he went out of his way to help me was so humbling, I mean this guy was willing to give me his stuff and didn’t want anything in return. To you and I, a bike tube would probably not mean much but to a guy with so little this item must hold enormous value!
I could go on and on about how selfless this guy was to give me, a total stranger, clearly in a much better position than him some of his possessions, while people like us are so selfishly attached to all our useless crap.
Anyway I just wanted to show you a pic of Jesse with his new Versace lenses, some fresh Sneakers, a full belly and a cold beer… Felt good to do something for the bloke. I also went up to woollies and got him a couple weeks worth of food and some seed for his bird lol…
Man he was ecstatic even had tears in his eyes and couldn’t thank me enough, but amidst me sitting there proud of my good deed, and him singing me praises, I suddenly felt pretty bad because the truth is if he didn’t go out of his way to help me, I wouldn’t of done anything for him.
I ride past this guy all the time and never even think twice!
Really knocked me off my high horse!
Even tho we sit around with all our materialistic needs and pass judgment, this dude has something that none of us can buy!

Following the slogan “one income, two assurances, and three guarantees,” the program addresses what’s called Multidimensional Poverty. “One income” refers to raising the daily income above the UN poverty line of $1.90; “two assurances” refers to food and clothing; and “three guarantees” is in reference to access to basic medical services, safe housing with clean drinking water and electricity, and free education.
In 2014, nearly three million cadres of the Communist Party of China were sent throughout the country as part of the program. There were 800,000 tasked with surveying every household, while another two million were tasked with verifying data, removing inaccurate case information, and adding new enrollees.
One cadre was assigned to live in every village to learn what families were going in and out of Multidimensional Poverty and why. Peng was one of the people helped by the program. Her home originally had a mud floor without a toilet or shower, but thanks to TPA, she now she has a concrete floor, an extension with a shower, toilet, and solar heated water, and is provided free internet and TV.

I won’t say WHICH BANK, but a small Term Deposit had matured. I asked for it to be electronically forwarded to a bank with a better interest rate. $30.00. NO WAY. I asked for a bank cheque. $30.00.
I refused. I asked for it in cash. No. They didn’t have enough money in the Branch. WOW. It wasn’t that much.
I asked them to order it in for me for the next day and I would pick it up.
They gave me a Bank Cheque – no charge.
That’s how determined you have to be.
That’s not the only bank I have had trouble with. I wanted to withdraw a few thousand dollars. Two people confronted me about it.

True Pat , sadly I am agreeing with everything you said. And thank you that I did not need to wade through those very descriptive words you have become known for.
But this is the way of the world now. Always was, but on a lesser scale. So much of the criteria we need to live by today, lacks any moral compass. And the only thing that seems to satisfy is more, more, and much more, the end justifying the means. If you consider that our politicians/leaders are corrupt, just look at the society around you. Leaders of any kind will be a reflection of that, and sadly, churches included. The Almighty there too, is often the dollar.
The story about Jesse is not an isolated case though. It is often the giving of those who have little, who help their fellow beings. There are so many unsung heroes out there, but few who receive kindness rarely express gratitude.
So what is the message to those whose kindness has been abused? Should we change? My thinking is NO. But give it with more wisdom and with boundaries.

This made me cry – as I have found so many ‘human beings’ can be so cruel, nasty, selfish and with no compassion whatsoever – it is so wonderful to hear this story of a beautiful human being and that is you Jesse and you also Tony.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
I know the story of a very important man who became a ‘down n out’. He was taken to a hospital and comments were made in a not too nice way about his state. On opening his eyes, he said, and it has left quite an impression on me:
“Call no one unclean that is made in the image of God.”
This inspiring, positive, good deed, reminds me of a detailed account by Betty J Eadie (Embraced by the Light), which I read from several yrs ago.
In it she describes, that we should not judge people merely by their outside appearance, (unless we know them well personally 1sthand).
It’s more important, of what is deep down in their hearts etc.
Betty’s guides show her a drunken man lying on the sidewalk and ask her what she sees. Betty sees only a drunk wallowing in his own filth. Her guides show her who the man really is. They reveal to her the man is filled with light and love and is greatly admired in the spirit world for being a reminder to people of the need to help others.
