Letter to the Editor
Far North Queensland floods have caused enormous damage to the Daintree and Mossman areas so as I live not far away I offered to assist with the clean up.

I contacted Douglas Shire offering to help as a volunteer and said I don’t want any pay. I thought I might be able to help some of these poor people whose homes got washed away.
Eventually I was contacted by an office volunteer who said I had to register as a contractor before I could help. This is an onerous process that could take weeks and I told the office clerk I was volunteering free of charge.
Furthermore I am a chainsaw instructor with all Forestry Dept qualifications and a previous registered cyclone clean up contractor for Cyclone Tracy and the later big blow.
I told the office clerk I was also an earthmoving operator with every qualification suitable for cleaning up collapsed roads and removing debris.
No I had to register as a contractor was the final discussion so I didn’t bother and remain sitting on my arse watching all the others do paid work.
So much for ALP, Liberals and Greens green and red tape is it any wonder this country has turned to shit in a big way. People must vote out these bludging bastards in governments.

Hallo Mr. Volunteer don’t you know those Public Serpent are trained to be obstructive when it comes to common sense. The all should get the flick and replaced by Koalas. At least they are always drunk….
The building has RAC plastered all over it as does the documentation but as we know with insurance it’s underwritten by globalist reinsurers, is this in every case or does it exclude RAC, anyway I’m not here to participate in a marketing exercise for insurance companies, my position is, if your house blew over in the wind you shouldn’t have built it like that. Someone else has to pay for it if not you, unfortunately I have some strata properties so I am the one paying. I think I will sell a couple of them soon and invest in something else to get away from the whole banks insurance thing, stuff them.
Joe Bogan said – “I took a car for a member of an RAC to their garage for a check and it was complete rubbish, about $250 at the time for nothing.”
Context counts. The automobile clubs CONTRACT OUT many of their roadside and associated services. Logic and common sense would point to that necessity.
I’ve been “ripped off” by an RACV Roadside Assistance fellow for the cost of a part to get my car running again, but what are you gonna do? A guy’s got bills to pay. You have the same risk hiring a plumber to fix a sink tap.
Point is, money transactions at that level have little to do with these clubs’ corporate-level operations like insurance. You can quote a single grievance with the face-to-face cost of automotive services, but I’d challenge you to find similar experiences with their insurance.
Commenter from Vic
Are they shop fronts for the big insurers in Switzerland and Germany or are they member funded, if they do more than the basic ripoffs they will be expensive.
I took a car for a member of an RAC to their garage for a check and it was complete rubbish, about $250 at the time for nothing. Business is business and in big business you are an ant
Joe Bogan said – “That’s because they were trying to break into the market or expand market share…”
IMO, your general opinion of the insurance industry is warranted.
But in the case of RACQ or RACV and similar others, you are off the mark, and your assertion is not substantive.
The key difference is that these are MEMBER CLUBS. One might argue details, but that’s how they roll.
Same consideration applies to banks. Are you feeling lucky, folks? Then get the Hell out of the commercial banks and into mutual banks OWNED BY THEIR MEMBERS, if you must use banking services at all. At least then you might have a fighting chance when they come to sieze EVERYONE’S assets.

That’s because they were trying to break into the market or expand market share, that’s great if you got a good honeymoon, once they are satisfied they have established their slice they will start to conform with everyone else
The author said – “I contacted Douglas Shire offering to help as a volunteer…”
… and there’s your first and last mistake.
They are NOT “government”, they are a PRIVATE CORPORATION. They have no more legal standing or “authority” than your local Coles or Woolies or Aldi.
Did you contact your local Coles supermarket offering to help as a volunteer?
Of course not.
People should be INDEPENDENTLY and COLLECTIVELY organising to get things sorted.
And just let these CORPORATE ARSEHOLES masquerading as “government” try to STOP you – but be aware one of the first things they will try is to hit you with all manner of “fines” that they have no jurisdiction to issue and have no legal standing unless you AGREE TO PAY THEM, and then they’ll get real nasty and “assert their authoritah” by shutting down all your BANK ACCOUNTS.
Because they’re ALL CORPORATIONS, and they’re all in it TOGETHER. Have been for at least 50 years, and probably way longer.
One thing you are correct on – we’re dealing with a pack of consummate BASTARDS.
Joe Bogan
you should know the insurance generally avoids paying claims and gets their lawyer to write off a couple of letters instead. The safety protocols are there to dupe you into thinking there is an all-embracing system in place.
Well Joe, when my house in the Whitsundays area of North QLD sustained substantial damage inflicted by Severe Tropical Cyclone Debbie in April 2017, my insurance company: RACQ, not only paid the full claim and fixed the whole house, practically gave it a much needed ‘facelift’. They couldn’t do enough for me. They didn’t waste any time either, no ‘umming and aah’ing’, just walked around, looked at the damage took photos, and asked me a few questions… I signed the claim and within days was advised they would pay the entire claim.. I was very happy, so I tend to disagree.
I understand what you’ve explained, and many have had some very frustrating, disappointing and unpleasant experiences with some of the more shonky operators, when trying to make legitimate, indisputable claims. And the sleazy crooks seem to easily get away with it. That might well be the case for many people, but certainly hasn’t been my experience, with that particular insurer.
I guess it pays to ‘shop around’ but I don’t think it’s worth the risk to have no insurance, as many of my hapless neighbours didn’t. So heartbreaking to see them. I felt so sad for them – their homes and their lives, utterly ruined.
Seriously Australian is under the control of deranged morons and has gone to the dogs. When the fires went through Buchan 3 years ago, one of locals created a fire break with his bulldozer and he was threatened with a 28k fine by one of the government agencies (told them to eff off). When people need help, it’s not the time for fear based arse covering tyranny.
I disagree with the writer’s closing statement, “So much for ALP, Liberals and Greens green and red tape is it any wonder this country has turned to shit in a big way. People must vote out these bludging bastards in governments”. It should include the fraudulent Teals Party as well.
For commenter Jen, in case you are still unclear about the purpose of insurance, you should know the insurance generally avoids paying claims and gets their lawyer to write off a couple of letters instead. The safety protocols are there to dupe you into thinking there is an all-embracing system in place. The insurance is there for the insurance to make money, that’s why there is so much insurance for sale. The governments try to make it compulsory as much as they can while never concern themselves with inappropriate over-insurance such as flood insurance on a hilltop and so forth. You are supposed to figure out for yourself, if their system is deliberately misleading. The insurance typically has so many exclusions there is no point in buying it unless you are forced to. Nobody should donate money to insurance companies for their imaginary cover products. Why gamble against yourself ? Look out for yourself because ultimately that’s what’s expected anyway. The rest is just parasites in disguise.
The entire Brave New World Order Beast System is going in brick by brick starting from when your parents surrender you to the education system.
Mate, they can’t have recovery assistance for free! They need huge cost numbers, to fuel the media barrage of ‘The sky is falling-close all fossil fuel power generation and transport – Quick before we all die’ type news headlines.
The Gang of Three and the Local Gov’t Authority (LGA) working directly under the United [Communist] Nations have got even voluntary labour collectivized and under Party Disciple, as well as the whole list of Talmudic Rulz. You have to have Party Approval, Blue Card, a CoVID Shot, public liability insurance and be approved by some PC Officer to so much as help a guy in a wheelchair onto a bus.
To hell with them all. Invidual initiative is what is required here.
Our local SES were screaming out for help ,so I spoke with them that I am willing and able to help chainsaw fallen trees , their reply was that I would need to undergo a course in how to operate a chainsaw , my reply was that I had 2 chainsaws in the back of my vehicle ready to go to work , their reply was an application form to do the course so I left and vowed never to return .
When Bundaberg was flooded a few years ago the local Army Reserve had to wait 5 days outside Bundaberg because of protocols before they could assist .
It’s a council @rse covering exercise.
Theyre deadly scared of being on the hook just in case you get injured while volunteering so they want you to go through that long winded process to be a private contractor so if anything happens legally you are responsible for your own damages and not them.
Bugger anybody else who actually needs that urgent help now. As long as they’re alright nothing else and nobody else matters.
It’s money!
They’re scared you might cost them money.
The love of money is the root of all evil.
Same thing happened to me after the last big Brisbane floods. Flew non stop through all sorts of terrible weather hauling people and emergency stuff until storm damage to the aeroplane grounded it so I volunteered for the “mud army” to take my mind away from things and also help. They knocked me back because I didn’t have a green card or whatever you are supposed to hold to work where children might be. Told them to go to buggery for it was alright to fly women and kids out of flooded places for medical treatment or save their lives but not OK to act as a bloody labourer in your own city.
Happy New Year 2024… my wish for common sense to be permitted back into every day life…. and politics and business….
Could anyone that is capable and wishes to help, not just go and help..?? WHY do people that have qualifications….even have to go down the weeks of having to be checked and given permits….. ?? And in this particular case….. Where is / are the local Peoples Representatives who will speak out and give permission to anyone qualified…. and other people that just want to help people moving, or cleaning up around their property!!
That is why this country is NOT going forward as it should or like many of our neighbouring countries I know are building infrastructure plus reclaiming land and just expanding, one bridge or railway after the other! I also remember being new in a town, wanting to join the local community garden.. this is down under in Tas…. I too was told I needed to wear a yellow jacket for security and be registered for insurance purposes??? GARDENING and insurance….. ….WHY are we the people of Australia….. not OBJECTING loudly to many of these stupid, unnecessary regulations…. Especially in recent years I have often asked myself HOW ever did our ancestors ever sail and explore this vast and beautiful country..and the Daintree……well say no more… it touches the heart it is one of the most beautiful rain forests we have.

Hi R Williams, just bloody go and help them and ignore their BS this is what they want people to do nothing, you are obviously self employed there fore you have relevant insurance, organise a large team and go these marxists will be forced to back down also make the damaged area aware of what the council is doing and get them to jack up against it , if we dont do anything its our fault. bring pressure to bear on them. good luck mate, just remember all government organizations are corporations we dont answer to them.
Sounds exactly what happened during the Lismore Floods…….
