PARLIAMENT House in Spring St, Melbourne, has become little more than a den of thieves – at least in respect to the Labor-Green government of Premier Jacinta Allan.
The Victorian government’s Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund (ESVF) has passed the Parliament’s Legislative Council during a marathon sitting, meaning many farmers will now pay more than $80,000 to councils for fighting fires that they usually fight themselves.
The new tax will be charged alongside council rates and replaces the cheaper fire services levy and represents a rise of 189% on the existing fire levy. Regular home owners will faced a doubled fee.
The brazen money grab is allegedly to finance the forced merger of the Country Fire Authority, and its many volunteer brigades, with the Metropolitan Fire Brigade to form the big corporate entity called Fire Services Victoria.
For farmers already burdened with regular rates by greedy councils, environmental charges and rising electricity costs, this is the straw the breaks the camel’s back. But do Allen and her corporate sponsors in Melbourne care? You bet they don’t.
The dirty deal has been done with Green, Legalise Cannabis and Animal Justice cross benchers in the Upper House. The outcome is just another job for the crisis managers that Allan and company believe will simply blow over as the rural community bleeds to death.
Ararat farmer Rob Armstrong, who has been organising rallies rally against the tax, says it feels like extortion and he is right. He also says the effects will rip millions out of rural towns, businesses, shops, rural sports clubs and other organisations

Strangely, the United Firefights Union, who negotiated the merger with Daniel Andrews, are opposed to the massively increased tax. “Your council rates currently include a fire levy that is meant to fund fire trucks and equipment to protect your family,” the UFU says on its website.
“However, the Allan Government want to bring in a new tax – almost doubling the current fire levy. This new tax will be funding existing services that your taxes already pay for. The Allan Government’s new tax is wrong.”
Meanwhile, membership of Victoria’s long-standing volunteer firefighting force has fallen to record lows while the bill for paid firefighting staff and their corporate managers continues to soar.

My letter just now to the local Geelong rag about the fire services levy-an unlawful tax:
Both Mayor Kontelj and the local Victorian Farmers Federation representatives, if they were to do their jobs properly, should know that, would alert that the states, Constitutionally, cannot raise taxes, and that, in any event, only one instance of taxation is applicable on any one item.
This makes the fire levy doubly unlawful, and serves as an embarrassment to both, Stretch Kontelj being, in the first instance, a Doctor of Law.
People will also see that the GST on fuel is an extra, unlawful, tax, on top of the fuel excise, and that Peter Dutton was being “a bit rich” with his proposed twenty five cent a litre reduction in fuel excise.
This is also an embarrassment for all local Members of Parliament and local councilors, who have failed to properly inform their constituents about these facts, and at a time when cost of living pressures are a massive burden.

Lawyers from Denton and Shine law firms will take $30.1 million for their costs. Another $2 million will be used to administer the distribution of the funds.
The settlement releases the Defence Department from any further claim over financial loss, property losses, mental anguish or nuisance for those involved, even though the areas remain polluted. There is no admission of liability by the government. This still leaves it open to future personal injury compensation litigation once the health dangers become more difficult to obscure.
Workers and their families living in affected towns have seen property prices plummet, with some properties considered unsellable. Small businesses and family farms have faced a dramatic loss of income, leaving many financially chained to their contaminated properties.

The Oakey meat works is 100% owned by NH Foods of Japan. Between mid-March and mid-June 2022, NH Foods released 175 megalitres (175,000,000 litres) of heavily contaminated abattoir runoff into Oakey Creek, which flows into the Condamine Balonne river system, part of the Murray Darling Basin. From there, the contamination makes its way down the Darling and Murray Rivers into the Lower Lakes in South Australia.
The contamination was horrific: 460,000 MPN/100ml (milliliters) for E.coli, 151 mg/litre of ammonia nitrate, and phosphorus at 29 mg/litre.
The Queensland Government investigated and agreed with the facts but only fined the meat works $13,000 when they could have been fined $1.3 million per day. This might have something to do with the close links between the meat works and the union movement. I pointed out that charging a foreign meat works $13,000 to dispose of such a large amount of heavily polluted water under cover of heavy rain is a scandal. Why would Oakey meat works or any other company bother to dispose of waste properly when they can just dump it into the Murray Darling system and pay a token fine for doing so?

It’s like the Ambulances, back in the day when I turned out to a 2 car smash in the fire truck, the local Ambulance would attend (F150) that had 2 stretches in the back, 2 seat’s in the back a bench seat that sat 3 in the front.
So one of us volunteers would drive the Ambulance to the hospital while the ambulance officer looked after the patients.
Now days a Ambulance has 2 paramedics (not a ambulance officer) and 1 stretcher per ambulance.
So if a bus prangs you need 30 od Ambulances to turn out from everywhere which puts the community’s where the Ambulances come from without response for cardiac arrest.

Even more concerning, “environmentally unsatisfactory” byproducts may be created by incinerating the foam. Among the highly toxic byproducts of PFAS incineration are hydrofluoric acid, which burns human skin on contact; perfluoroisobutylene, a chemical that so reliably kills people within hours of being inhaled that it’s been used as a warfare agent; as well as dioxins and furans, which cause cancer.

When I left school at 14 I was doing my farm apprenticeship in real time but had 1 or 2 weeks every couple of months at Melbourne university.
The neighbour who I done my apprenticeship with was a Lieutenant in our local CFA bush fire brigade and because of low numbers he got me to join.
To become a full member I had to be 16 but because I was doing a farm apprenticeship with Melbourne university I was able to get around the age restrictions and start training at Fiskville in Victoria.
I completed BA training, smoke house training, high rise training, fire and rescue, bush fire and All hazchem training, we trained using water, A class, B class and extinguisher of all variations.
Bryan Brady who was in charge of Region 6 in Victoria was the person who trained me at become a really good friend, whom I was involved with travelling all over Australia in strike teams to extinguish large fires and to relieve locals.
Brady during off fire season ran parts of the CFA Fiskville training for brigades all over Victoria.
He was in is 50s when he had a strange Cancer started eating him which eventually was recognised by the military in USA and now in the Navy in Australia as the fire foams caused hundreds of deaths in people who were exposed on a regular basis.
These foams were used on, hay stack fires, house fires, car and truck fires, sprayed as a retardant around assets or grass, 1000s of letters of toxic foams running into creeks and dams, humans and stock drinking that toxic water that also used in irrigation to grow our foods.
The CFA killed hundreds of volunteers and my mate Brady and covered it up, giving nothing to the family’s despite knowing the foams were toxic to the environment and carcinogenic to humans.

What is stopping a community setting up their own private fire fighting service as per existing voluntary service but structured as a community registered business then by contributing or being invoiced by that service negates your obligation to fund a council levy for the same service. Proof of being the invoiced service per annum. Cannot see anything different from what they are doing voluntarily now except privatising their service. Would also run efficiently without having to feed a bureaucracy.
As for anything ie assets and equipment needing certification or to an Aus standard that’s done privately anyway.
This would send a strong message, we don’t need sectors of government in our face gouging us.

The PREMIUM FEED-IN TARIFFS IS DUE TO END ON THE 30TH JUNE, 2028 so it is high time that solar panel owners who applied to install solar panels before the 30th of September 2011 think about getting a plan in place when it ends, if not sooner, especially if you are not getting the benefits anyway because of low solar exports.
The other thing that is imminent is what is called a ‘solar export tariff’ also commonly referred to as a “SOLAR TAX OR SUN TAX”. Because of the glut of solar on rooftops in Australia and especially in SA, there is an oversupply of energy from solar during the day and electricity providers are introducing a new mechanism to charge solar panel owners for the electricity they feed back into the grid.
What it amounts to is that solar panel owners may be charged to export energy to the grid (1-3c/kWh) depending on the time of day.
Its never about raising revenue for services, when they print the money or have authority too. Its all about control and keeping you tied up while they sell us out year by year to the highest bidder. Enemies of the people

The emergency and Fire Levy increases is not just in Victoria, the LNP in Queensland Is pushing for farmers and small miners to pay astronomical amounts for a service that doesn’t exist..
9 out of 10 times the Queensland government lit the fires on state forest or national park and it burnt us out. The Queensland government have no large Dozzers or leaders to cut breaks nore do they have vehicles or personnel that are up to the task of extinguishing a bush fire.
