A PROPERTY owner near Gatton in the Lockyer Valley recently caught a so-called fire ant team on a tree camera digging holes and dropping fire ants in them.
Cairns News has been told by a source who spoke to the property owner (not the man pictured above) that he called police and the five men in the team were arrested. It is not known if the men have been charged because the-then State Labor Government did its best to shut the incident down.
According to the property owner, the State Government issued a court suppression order stopping public distribution of the footage from the tree camera. The source told Cairns News he was waiting for more information from the property owner, who he said had fallen ill and was incapacitated.
He said the team members told police that they were acting according to instructions and showed documents allegedly in support of that claim. Our source agreed that it seemed like someone in the program was trying to create extra work to keep contract money rolling in.
Our source said another man at Inglewood had visually spotted a team planting fire ants but did not have the incident on camera.
The planting allegations against the so-called control teams have added to the scandal around the methods of poisoning the ants. Aerial contractors have raised serious alarm among property owners by spreading large amounts of the highly toxic fire ant bait across farms and into waterways.
A Lockyer Valley man Trevor Hold, who breeds Galloway cattle, has launched a campaign against the poisoning campaign involving pyriproxyfren and s-methoprene, which he blames for the deaths of cows on his property. He says the chemicals affect the embryos and foetus development of calves.
This created miscarriages but if calves make it through to birth, they die prematurely from liver poisoning and cognitive decline over six weeks. Last August Mr Hold began a media campaign against the National Fire Ant Eradication Program, and told local media he would block eradication teams from entering his property. He advocates killing the ants by injecting hot water directly into nests.
The National Fire Ant Eradication Program is a national multi-million-dollar program funded by all Australian state and territory governments, and the Federal Government, and delivered by Biosecurity Queensland.
Queensland began its fire ant eradication program in 2001 – more than two decades ago. According to media reports it has cost more than $1.2 billion.
It is clear that the program did not achieve eradication, but given the scale of the national program, it is now being touted as an environmental crisis in South East Queensland and Northern NSW, hence the use of aerial poison drops.
Sarah McGuire from Samford, west of Brisbane, took water samples from local wetlands where the poison had been dropped and found high levels of the pyriproxyfren and s-methoprene.
Use of the poisons in Queensland has been criticised by a biologist, Professor Joshua King, of the University of Central Florida, who, in an open letter, called the process unsustainable, excessively expensive and contributing to the spread of the ants.

I don’t care about some species or even ants or a winged stinging insect specialties like you suggest that dosn’t include fire ants (not sure how that would help) I’m specificlly speaking about fire ants specificlly the red imported fire ant.. The same ant that is discussed in the article we are commenting on. The red imported fire and cannot change from a worker ant to a queen. This process is not possible.. there are many reasons for this one of the major ones is the lack of wings, and the mating process that only happens at certain parts of the year where new queens get sperm required to make eggs for their entire lifetime from a flying male during that process. That flying male dosn’t return to the nest they die after this process away from the nest a few days later. None of this information is secret or hard to find, very quick Google searches will render this information specificlly about the red imported fire ant from well trusted and researched sources like the University of Texas for example.. To take this full circle to make this very clear now that I have explained how it’s not possible. There is no possible way that sprinkling some ants in a hole would create an infestation.. And at this point that makes the story of the video above mostly debunked.. To complete the debunking you only have to think about the Qld Labor government the same guys that by admission of Trev can’t run the program properly somehow managed to scrub the internet of a video.. Something that the federal government couldn’t do and left them threatening to sue Elon Musk to no avail.. At this point there is 0 credibility in any of the “facts” of the claims without this mysterious video that I guarantee if it was to exist clearly shows fire ants Queensland sprinkling bait onto a nest.. 🤦♂️

@joe just because a human is now allowed to identify as whatever they want the animal kingdom dosn’t work like that… Once a ant or bee emerges from the larve state that is what they are forever.. you can adjust or force a bee larve to become a queen by feeding it “royal jelly” and placement in a queen cell. similar applies to a fire ant a queen larve is fed directly from the queen and that makes another queen.. as you can see this is all fairly complicated and not something that could be achieved by sprinkling a few ants in a hole in the ground..

I didn’t say they were spreading eggs, you started telling me about commercial bee behaviour and I referred you to worldwide insect behaviour. But in any case since you’re pursuing ant eggs, these insects do certain things at certain times and one of them is to carry eggs around. So in that case all they would need is one egg. But what I actually originally posted was that I had heard somewhere about adult ants or bees that could morph into queens onehow or another. I don’t live in SEQ so it’s for others to follow up.

Because that being a critical part of the claims in the first few paragraphs being completely incorrect could mean that other parts of the account are also incorrect.. Then there is a part that nobody has covered off yet, The ability of the same department/state government that you all claim are completely incompatent to run the program being able to handle a cover up operation like this and being able to remove footage from the internet. I sat through 3 hours of first had testimony from people who have lost animals after poisoning. The local vet agreed. I saw the test results of poisoned creeks – I saw the video of these idiots bombing animals and the river! Which they admitted to. I have researched the poisons – they are not supposed to be used this way and are harmful to the environment. No one in the world is stupid enough to do this. Editor Cairns Newspaper, have you actually spoken to the property owner and obtained the information first hand or did it come from Trevor? Do some research before printing stories that come from the cookers. The cookers have a whole facebook page that has their conspiracies. Anybody that actually has fire ants knows that digging a hole and putting fire ants in the nest to come back and treat is just bs. You’d have to make sure you captured a Queen and there is no guarantee the fire ants would remain where the hole was dug because when disturbed they leave the nest. A nest can take 6-9 months to form above ground. Someone is feeding you a load of bs to get their name in print and promote their business.
Contact Qld Country Life and ask them why they did not include the story about his calves dying due to alleged bait poisoning. They confirmed they spoke with the vet and were advised that there was no evidence that supported this. Old Trev likes to fear monger about fire ant bait so that he can then promote his business. Where is the water testing for the poisoned waterways, it doesn’t exist either. Ask to be put in touch with the alleged community groups that he supposedly helps with his base level mental health qualifications.
First they went after the chickens, then the sheep, then the cattle, and then they went for the porkers. In the end, all we had left were cockroaches and exotic bugs.
Reckon it might be a smart idea to move to a Smart City, like Canberra, where they’re in plentiful supply.

How can you and your team claim to know so much when you have never actually seen a nest??

We will get someone to contact you, bear in mind Cairns district also has many fire ants and there has been an eradication program going on here. Landowners don’t like the chemicals being used. There are natural methods of eradication including biological mooted by researchers. Editor

Ask Mr Hold to produce the medical report on his cattle because the one he posted on screen during a podcast with Mrs McGuire clearly stated in the conclusions that his two calves death are in no way linked to the fire ant baits. SLR Consulting wrote a detailed report clearing the fire ant program. Trevor is campaigning to stop the fire ant program with a petition and asking the Fire Ant Program to fund his latest business venture # 99, hot water pressure cleaning of fire ants. Trevor also claimed the water course running thru his property had been poisoned but when asked if he has obtained testing to confirm he stated in writing no he hadn’t and said he just knows it has. He claims to have accreditation and a license to operate this so called invention but when questioned why you’d need a license to operate a pressure washer and to post a copy of said license and accreditation he then being on the backfoot claims he is being trolled. He has been reported to Police by the now ex Agriculture Minister, Mark Furner for stating the fire ant program is going to cause another Wieambilla shooting. So he is claiming property owners are collecting guns to shoot fire ant staff. If he was aware of property owners making those threats then surely as a mental health practitioner he would have a duty of care to report this to the Police! He claims to be a base level counsellor and mental health practitioner but one has to question what kind of counsellor/ mental health practitioner or human being for that matter would use such a tragedy in an attempt to manipulate the public against having fire ants treated. If only his parents used ‘prophylactics’ as much as Mr Hold likes to throw the word around, we’d all be spared having to listen to his constant verbal diatribe.

Wow, if this is what stands for journalism from a mainstream media source in this day and age we have no chance.. Anyone who knows a single thing about fire ants (Trevor included) would know you can’t just sprinkle some ants into a hole.. that’s not how a colony works.. you need to have a breeding queen, and that queens new colony takes 6-9 months before it becomes a visable above ground nest.. this nest becomes visible generally just after it has sent up the next batch of males and females for breeding.. The Editor should have done some research before just taking an informants information at face value.. You could have at least reached out to Fire ants Queensland for comment?? I could spend all day picking apart Trevor’s arguments but it boils down to commercial interests. Trevor has a buisness that relies on fire ants staying around, eradication would render his investments in equipment useless. It also relies on scare campaigns around the “dangerous nature” of the poisions to encourage the use of his $100 per hours service that claims to treat (not kill) only 3 visable nests per hour.. Happy to speak with someone at Cairns post about fire ants and actually explain how the system works..
