The State Executive of KAP today announced its opposition to parts of the state government’s anti-association laws saying the new legislation cast too wide a net.
State President Shane Paulger said the party had received numerous complaints about innocent people getting caught up in the dragnet for outlaw bike riders.
“For example the Vietnam Veterans Association bike club and tradesmen now have been targeted in case they have some sort of a link to a bike gang,”Mr Paulger said.
“What if a builder did some renovation for a bikie at his house and he didn’t know the client had gang links, then in the afternoon two other friends of the client arrive and they all have a stubbie together?”
“Under these LNP laws the innocent tradesman could end up doing three years jail.
“And the onus of proof is shifted to the poor tradie to prove he is not a member or associate of an outlaw gang.
“Queensland people would not tolerate this situation if they looked into these laws everybody is screaming about.
“What is the government doing about the savage Asian gangs such as the Triads or the Yakuza or the Vietnamese gangs running riot on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane?
“We will brief our state MP’s to see what can be done about this out of control law that seems to be open to abuse by some members of the police force”.
