Older Australians who kept their land lines for decades now have no ability to look up friends' numbers in White Pages

American software company Thryv purchased Australia’s White Pages directory four years ago and now will close it down, isolating those wise, land-line owners who kept their copper connections.

Thryv Australia is the local arm of the US-based small business software company, known for acquiring Sensis (owner of Yellow Pages, White Pages) in 2021, offering an all-in-one platform for marketing, sales, client management (CRM), booking and payments to help Aussie SMEs compete digitally.

But the business has axed the option to search for all residential listings online.

Only business and government searches remain.

“Users can still find a White Pages residential number by calling Directory Assistance on 1223,” Thryv Australia spokesperson Diane Falzon said.

“For those requiring a physical copy, please contact Directory Select.”

Not a murmur from the political parties.

  1. I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.”

  2. What a great service to the public. If you do not appreciate what a particular business is doing, if you can afford to buy it out via cash or share take-over you then close down its services. Stuff the users of that business, and any other business relying on the service that used to be provided.

This is the playbook of the big banks and possibly Australia Post in the future. Supposedly free enterprise.

  3. This edition of CN says there are 5 people who have left comments.. this one making it 6. I have only 3 comments showing on my feed do others suffer this anomaly.?

  4. CN needs to update their Reply system so that the writer can see/obtain a copy of what they have written.

  5. Well over a month ago I requested hard copies. no reply. As a historical researcher needing to find authors or their kin for copyright reasons the Residential White Pages were the last source available. Many are not on faecies book and RWP did not give full initials so it was essential to have the lists to go though. Directory assistance is useless. Electoral Rolls are very restricted for some 20? years. I have not yet contacted the irrelevant minister for communications….
