This is being presented as if the farmers are being subsidised for the cost of diesel. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I don’t think that is what is happening.
Diesel sold for use in cars and trucks includes a tax to pay for the cost of building and maintaining roads. Farmers do not generally drive the tractors on the roads and so are not required to pay tax on the diesel.
It is disingenuous to describe say the farmers are protesting the removal of a subsidy when they are not being subsidised.
