Welcome to the wonderful world of Disney economics, and it would be a joy to watch if we didn’t have to pay for it.

After the Labor Member for Gosford’s contribution to the NSW Net Zero Future Bill last week was to quote 25 lines of Dr Seuss’s The Lorax, we should not be surprised that this skillset filters down to departmental spreadsheets.

The latest magnum opus in the fantasia of net zero targets is an Excel spreadsheet dreamt up by some luminary who has obviously never hired an electrician themselves, hired a truck or called a tip to dump thousands of tonnes of landfill.

Going straight to landfill is 467 tonnes of electronics, 3113 tonnes of polymer, and 3891 tonnes of carbon glass composites for 75 towers

The Wind Energy Decommissioning Calculator, currently on exhibition with the draft Wind Energy Guidelines, starts with a wind factory of 75 towers, 137m high, the dwarf, older brother of the monstrosities being built now.

Users can change certain elements, including the height and weight, but using NSW Planning figures on this particular wind farm, it “calculates” the cost of decommissioning per turbine; once the copper, steel, alloy and even concrete (at $20 a tonne) are sold for scrap, will cost a bargain $40,056.95.

Going straight to landfill is 467 tonnes of electronics, 3113 tonnes of polymer, and 3891 tonnes of carbon glass composites. Yet the pre-filled cost of landfill in the calculator is zero dollars.

It assumes turbines will go to landfills within 200km of the site. Using their hopeful figures, where every possible recyclable is recycled, that’s 560,325 tonnes of landfill.

Will local councils be ordered to accept this? Maybe they can chuck them in the creek because apparently they don’t have to comply with any other environmental guidelines.

It assumes the trucks doing disposal will travel 80km an hour. Turbines are built on steep hills on dirt roads, not the German autobahn.

In calculating transport costs, it assumes “that tower will be transported in four pieces, generator will be transported in 10 pieces and blades in three pieces. Hence there will be 17 truckloads for one turbine”.

Local transport operators in a renewable energy zone quoted around $50,000 to get 17 trucks from northern NSW to Sydney – about a six-hour drive. Yet according to NSW Planning, each truck will drive 10 hours for a mere $34,000.

It assumes it will cost $1640 for two electricians to do electrical work per day. Getting one electrician to Woolbrook for two hours to replace light fittings was more than $400, and decommissioning a wind tower is slightly more complicated.

Specialist electricians laughed and quoted “at least double and maybe five times as much” than the $82 an hour the NSW government has assumed in its calculator.

They are on whatever drugs the guys who made Fantasia were taking if they think specialist sparkies will travel and spend the whole day pulling 35,000m of cable out of each tower (again, their figures) for around $800 each.

We have learned from Snowy Hydro 2.0, which started at $2bn and is now $12bn and rising; your desktop assessments can be 600 per cent wrong and continue to climb.

What was the original spreadsheet for Snowy Hydro 2.0, like? Consider Florence the borer, who they thought would travel 300m a day – (not 150m and then stop for years). Even though she doesn’t move, the owners haven’t stopped charging. If one crew is out of sync and the others must stop, no one clocks off and waits for free.

This Pinocchio calculator is getting an awfully long nose.

A 2019 report in Minnesota puts the cost of decommissioning at $A800,000 per tower while a US Office of Energy Efficiency report puts it at more than $A300,000. Yet none go as low as NSW, which believes that once you sell components for recycling, each tower will cost just $40,000 to pull down.

Step back and ask a simple question, how much work is in a massive wind tower, and how much work is in an extension of my house?

If the Minns and Albanese governments are confident of their numbers, they should underwrite any cost blowouts.

Yet the one thing no government is doing, and nor is any proponent, is taking responsibility for decommissioning turbines. They trip over themselves giving overseas companies secret subsidies to build them, but where are Penny Sharpe and Chris Bowen taking responsibility for pulling them down? The dirty little secret is the farmer is responsible for that.

Every cent from these towers will need to be put in a bank account to decommission them in the future. Otherwise, they will end up collapsing in a paddock, and the land that rotting infrastructure is on may be unsellable.

When will they tell us who is responsible for the decommissioning of the wind towers and rehabilitation of the land, just as the responsibility is on the proponent, and underwritten by government, for decommissioning and land rehabilitation for coal mines?

Luckily, this calculator has a disclaimer saying no person or entity associated with the development of the calculator is liable for any loss or damage whatsoever that may result in the use of the template or any errors or omissions in its contents.

“Users of the calculator must exercise their own skill and judgement and should seek advice from a suitably qualified experts, where appropriate (sic).”

The net zero fantasy has so many chapters – what they think they can achieve, how much it will cost, and one of the greatest parts of this production, is at the end they magically disappear into thin air.

25 thought on “The Labor fantasy of wind energy and the impossibility of de-commisioning towers”
  1. “So very strange that Dr. Moran suffered PRECISELY the same fate.”

Royal Rife didn’t fare much better when he built his mega magnification microscope and the effect of mortal oscillatory frequencies on nuking cancers.

  2. It is alleged that after the death of Tesla 2 people entered his apartment and removed papers. One of those was John Trump. Donald’s uncle.
    Anyone know more?

  3. The cost of dismantaling must be similar to construction and erection.

The $40,000 is surely a misprint and may be $400,000 after sale of recoverables.

  4. Aussiemal

Those two programs are the idea of generating enough energy from windmills and solar panels for the entire civilisation of the planet AND electric driven cars in their current concept. Both are already proven to be stupid ideas, but money is to be made.

Yes, it’s pretty stupid alright, given the windmill was first used as a source of mechanical energy for grinding wheat and other grains in around the 12th century AD.
If that ‘technology’ has been around for that long and is proven efficient and viable energy source it would have been used for generating reliable electric power for the entire civilization of the planet, long before now. There would have been no need to generate electric power with steam turbines driven by steam heated by ‘dirty coal’ fired boilers, or nuclear reactors as most of it is today.
Windmills would have done it much better according to the deranged, green zealots and the humanity loathing UN subservient governments who pay them handsomely to write and propagate their clean, green dreamworld fairy tales of their ‘idyllic’ preindustrial era, energy devoid totalitarian ruled ‘utopia’.
It should be OBVIOUS to even the most scientifically illiterate among us what their real deindustrialization plan is all about and it will be accomplished by replacing reliable base load electric power from coal, oil, gas or nuclear with those 12th century useless, not to mention sickeningly expensive and unsightly artefacts…
GUARANTEED to destroy everything we built over centuries of technical innovation and evolution and our entire civilization and way of life FOREVER. That’s what these Malthusians want for us and what they’re in the process of doing right now, yet most of the proletariat don’t even see what’s going on.

Most of the plebs even know that this clean green dream is delusional and even insane but fail to see the ploy.
They believe the governments and their minions are just stupid and incompetent fools and are making a big mistake because of their ignorance.
They’re NOT. This is all planned and deliberate. They want us to think they’re stupid, because while everyone believes that they don’t notice the real agenda rolling out: The agenda of total societal annihilation by stealth. Using the ruse of this hysterically propagated, but nonexistent ‘climate crisis’ as the smoke screen to hide it.

There is no problem with the climate and there never was. Its all hysterical propaganda. LIES.
And cutting off electric power to our industrialized civilization by pretending to try to generate ‘clean, emissions free’ electricity with useless artefacts that do not and cannot ever supply reliable and continuous baseload electricity to our modern, energy dependent societies won’t solve it even if there was a problem.

    What are the odds?

  6. “Nikola Tesla is reputed to have had an electric car powered by a resonant contraption that fitted in the glove compartment.”

Tesla didn’t have his laboratory burned down and all his work and papers seized and locked up by the US Gubbernment for no reason.

Nor was he CANCELLED out of history for no reason, despite his phenomenal scientific achievements, including free electrical energy.

  7. TONYRYAN43: ” Who is Vikki Campion?”

Barnaby Joyce might be able to offer you a few clues. lol

    Vikki is my firstborn.
    She’s now Barnaby’s wife.
She writes a weekly column for News Corpse, of which this piece is an example.

  9. Aussiemal said – “… AND electric driven cars in their current concept.”

The “current concept” is the crux of the matter. All built around a framework that’s designed to severely limit the usless eaters’ mobility, or just outright fail and take our economies down with it.

Nikola Tesla is reputed to have had an electric car powered by a resonant contraption that fitted in the glove compartment. He allegedly used to drive this vehicle around with not a care in the world about fuel stops.

Dr. Henry T. Moran also developed a resonant device, about the size of a shoe box, which put out enough electricity to power 20 households. Not even alleged, he demonstrated this gadget to vertiable hordes of interested parties and potential investors.

Funny how all of that has died a quiet death, never to see the light of day. No doubt our prospective Masters have exclusive access to this technology in their fabulously luxurious underground bunkers. If we ever get to see it, it will assuredly be weaponised against us.

FWIW, the Bedini Motor and the Adams Motor might not be so suitable to power a motor vehicle, but can certainly furnish all the electric power for a sizeable building. Both of these inventions are EASILY within the scope of any decent machine shop to manufacture, just BTW. I suspect that the Kiwi government’s seizure of the Adams Motor patents on “National Security” grounds points to its covert military use, perhaps by naval vessels.

  10. That was the most entertaining report I have read in decades. But it leaves me with a question. Who is Vikki Campion?

I think I am in love.

  11. There are two stupid unrealistic programs politicians and scammers are behind which should put them and the mainstream media out of business. Those two programs are the idea of generating enough energy from windmills and solar panels for the entire civilisation of the planet AND electric driven cars in their current concept. Both are already proven to be stupid ideas, but money is to be made.

Where are the environmentalists regarding the salvage methods to be used for these useless wind turbines and why did they not question the disposal methods before any were constructed? Did they even know or make inquiries about the expected lifespan of said equipment? The same can be said for lithium batteries. Current (no pun intended) electricity production cannot create as much detriment to the environment as these monstrosities.

  12. Lindesymonds said – “… he should be thinking about whether he wants hoisin or douchi sauce on his burger.”

That’s all a bit up-market for the useless eaters. They should be grateful to get pureed maggot sauce or synthetic Camel snot, or nothing at all.

Just BTW, a marvellous feature of creepy Bill’s fake tumor meat, is that each tumor can be grown exactly to the size of a Chicken Nugget. The New World Order will be nothing if not efficient.

Even more efficient once we’re all dead.

  13. I am listening to crooked Elbow wringing as much airtime as possible out of a “sandwich and can of drink” style tax cut which will “not increase inflation” and will “help the economy”, not a mention of the borrowings they are making from the bankster-owned RBA which will see the entire country hocked possibly by 2030.
On the basis of crooked Elbow’s relentless bullshitting alone I can confidently advise we are screwed with no way out, windmills, injections, CBDCs the lot, it’s a dead end road with a gulag at the end of it. We’re all going to be demographically migrated out. The windmills are just for show ( and kickbacks ). They are something to do with “ClimateChange” which is “NOT” caused by the sun, it’s caused by cow farts, because they haven’t had their seaweed lick. DON’T MENTION THE SUN.The show goes on. Solid applause for Elbow’s speech, no boohing permitted.
Nobody gets these bullshitting jobs on merit alone, but one look at Elbow and you can see, he won’t be showered with post-political career goodies by virtue of his spluttering raw talent. Bill Clinton, Barry Obama, Justin Turdeau, Crooked Elbow, who’s your father.

  14. There will be no room at the rubbish dump as it will be taken up by all the electric cars.

  15. When money is made of plastic and print, and given value by creating interest and inflation, then there is no limit to what you can hand out to your business and other bum buddies. The future will absorb all that debt and the taxpayer will absorb the inflation…..and we, the corporate ‘government’ can do as we please at any expense without any responsibility.
Australia has heaps of unused land that can become massive dumps for the benefit of profits…er, mankind.
See how it all just works….no problem…recycling after getting rid of all that carbon our trees and vegetation need is another industry we have created, and another benefit is getting rid of those nasty cows farting all over the place.
Soon we’ll have breathing meters to wear so we can all pay for the oxygen we breathe, because as oxygen levels drop from lack of trees and vegetation that provide it, we can offset this loss with profits for corporatised government and their business mates.

  16. But the idea here is not to generate energy. The farmer, primary producer on the land is Class Enemy No 1 of the Communist Revolution. The main objective here is to drive these people off the land and into the 15 min cities.

You don’t have full spectrum dominance over a population if we have Joe the farmer out on Saturday morning driving his truck around and gassing the planet. He should be in his 15 minute city waiting for his bug burger. He should not be thinking about mustering his livestock, he should be thinking about whether he wants hoisin or douchi sauce on his burger.

Collectivisation, breaking the industrial economy of a first world Western nation in terms of energy, squandering money / running up the debt of the nation undergoing rigorous Communist subversion. Trifecta. From the standpoint of the Gang of Four in the Politburo: what is not to like about this picture?

For the minions the cover story for this national and social catastrophe is firmly in place. Clean . Green. Net Zero. Save the planet. Help poor Mother Earth choking to death on those nasty fossil fuel emissions and CO2. Don’t think of steel mills and production. Think of how beautiful and dark it will be at night without electrical power. Think of the methane and CO2 that will be removed when the critical issue of bovine flatulence is addressed.

If you fell for the 2020 Corona Baloney Hoax, you probably believe the Big Climate Bunk-o as well. Good for you and be sure and get your CoVID booster every 6 months. Disease X is coming. [Well actually Disease X is coming as the spike protein of the CoVID injections is recombinant].

  17. The author said – “Luckily, this calculator has a disclaimer saying no person or entity associated with the development of the calculator is liable for any loss or damage whatsoever that may result in the use of the template or any errors or omissions in its contents.”

The OBVIOUS solution here is to make these authors AND THEIR EMPLOYERS wholly and severally PERSONALLY accountable for all costs and damages associated with their BS “calculator”.

That might just introduce some bona-fide risk-aversion into their utterly flippant zero-carbon delusions. Hold the bastards PERSONALLY ACCOUNTABLE for the damage they cause.

Matter of fact, the same logic would apply equally “safe & effectively” to the last four years of Corona Chan insanity, except in that case PROPER accountability would see about ten million genocidal mass-murdering arseholes swinging from lamp posts all around the world.
