China continues its land acquisition investigation in the Torres Strait aided by rogue members of the Kaurareg Native Title Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC and the GBK (Gur A Baradharaw Kod Torres Strait Sea and Land Council; Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal Corporation) which is the Native Title service provider for the Torres Strait Region.
In spite of opposition from legitimate Kaurareg Aboriginal Traditional Owners and Tribal Elders four renegade members(below) have continued to defy the wishes of the majority, according to a PBC spokesman.
Kaurareg Aboriginal people are the single largest Aboriginal traditional land owner group in Torres Strait area whose funding is controlled by the Torres Strait Islander entities such as the GBK (Gur A Baradharaw Kod Torres Strait Sea and Land Council.
Collusion between the gang of four and the GBK (Gur A Baradharaw Kod Torres Strait Sea and Land Council; Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal Corporation) has raised questions as to why this organisation continues to receive federal funding when it is helping a foreign power to unlawfully acquire Australian land.

The proposed new autonomous state has already nominated the gang of four members for Cabinet positions in the new government. Thursday Island resident Milton Savage is Minister for Defence; Thomas Savage, is Minister for Foreign Affairs; Elijah Wasaga is Minister for Finance and Donald Marou is the Minister for Immigration which the gang believes are important portfolios needed to deal with the Chinese.
There are growing concerns that the four Kaurareg native title applicants are colluding with the GBK in the handling and settling of land claims to support funding arrangements with a foreign state. The new Torres Strait Melanesian Government is dealing with land that is the property of the Kaurareg Aboriginal people and a part of Australia.
The group has asked China to bankroll their new entity and it would seem the land on offer as a trade-off would be developed by the CCP government to build infrastructure such as a fuel depot on Goodes Island.
China also wants to build a port facility on Hammond Island adjacent the international shipping lane presumably for naval vessels.
In October 2024, Cairns News reported on the Chinese Consul meeting at Thursday Island with all parties connected to the proposed new state. The Consul visited various Torres Strait Island Councils with a view of acquiring land and fishing rights, according to island sources.
Torres Strait Elder Seriat Young told Torres News he wanted to see positive change in his communities for his children’s sake.
He said that was why they had been appointed Ministerial roles and begun the process of establishing a sovereign government structure in the Torres Strait separate from Australia.
“We are going to do it all by ourselves, we will do this thing for our glory,” he told Torres News.
“We want the Australian Government to look at us and see how they have oppressed us for a very long time in our own country.”
Mr Young made no mention of the annual $40 billion Australian Government budget allocation for the national Aboriginal industry or the $2m recently handed out by government to the owners of the Pajinka land at the Tip.
Michael Solomon who is also appointed as Minister for Families and Child Safety is a Bamaga resident and one of the title holders of Pajinka whose family is from the Solomon Islands.
He said they had been meeting with Chinese investors to discuss the development of dilapidated infrastructure at significant sites of high tourism value. (Pajinka. Ed)
“They’re willing to help us move forward very fast, no games,” Mr Solomon said.
“We want to show the outcomes to our people and all the jobs and things we’ve been talking about for many years.”
China’s Gage Capital has already bought a controlling share of Alice Queen Ltd which holds the lease for the Horn Island Gold Mine. Now it has set its sights on the Horn Island International Airport.
It is believed an arrangement similar to the Port of Darwin lease with China has been negotiated for Pajinka Aboriginal Freehold at the Tip of Cape York between rogue Aboriginal land owners and Chinese interests. – contributed
