Something of an echo chamber here, so take this poll with a grain of salt. Were Cairns News the North Fitzroy News I suspect the result would be reversed . . . since Melburnians (like Sydneysiders) have nothing to do with the issues of a people barely represented within their population. If the referendum were to be a fair reflection upon aboriginal Australian societies, the NT’s vote would count the same as the six states’ and would thus have the power of veto, but it does not. Conclusion – a “petition before parliament” is like pissing into the wind (or worse).

The time has come to treat all Australians exactly the same as in removing the handouts to those who claim to be aboriginal or Islanders.
